Default P0461 OBD Code/Fuel Level Sensor

I searched for this code and didn't pull anything up. So sorry if this is extensively covered. I just had a service engine soon light pop on today so I put the handy old reader on it and it gave me a P0461 code. I looked it up and it says "Fuel level sensor circuit range/performance. Fuel level sensor A electrical circuit was out of its operating range or had a performance problem for a predetermined period of time. So I went to the local Nissan thieves I mean dealership and went ahead and ordered a sensor. $200 for the sensor and tank gasket which will be here tomorrow. But, it light went off before I got home (about 10 miles). Should I go ahead and pay and replace the sensor or is there another option? And, which sensor would sensor "A" be? I know there is 2.

A's (or 1's) are usually on the right side or upstream. FSM will tell you for sure which is which.

Thanks for the info. I downloaded the manual. Any chance that it could just be a stuck float in need of cleaning since the service light has gone off now?

You're welcome.

370Zs seem to be bad about breaking some kind of cage/support on the fuel pump. There are several threads about it on this site. If you can't find what you need using the site's search, go to any of the major web search engines and add "site:the370z.com" to your search string (eg, "fuel pump site:the370z.com").

I will do some more digging with your suggested methods and find out what I can. I might over research things from time to time but hey, knowledge is power. Thanks again for your help and info. That's why I love/trust this forum so much. Some one can always give you a point in the right direction.
