Actually, none at all, still doing the same thing. I played with the IPDM and reset the ECU and it is still doing the same thing. So called the Nissan Dealership and since I have it under warranty, I am currently waiting for the tow truck to get here and bring it to them. I just hope they can fix it relatively quickly and they do not stick me with a Geo Metro loaner... But, thanks for the advice anyways.

Steering lock solenoid - 2009 Z with 38K

(2009) with 38K miles.
Car was flatbeded to the dealership for $121 dollars.
I was told it was the "Steerling Lock Solenoid" - He says he hopes that's the problem.. (sounds like a part changer dealership - 1st time there).
The service manager has to order the part. 5 Days Nice weather, no Z!!!

I saw the yellow key light on the left come on.. I could do nothing
Push Button was in the "LOCK" postion.
I unplugged the battery for a few hoping that would help but no luck there.

I'll report back. This Part needs to be recalled by Nissan!!!The service manager said he has seen it alot on the Altimas and Maximas with this problem.
Anyhow my nice shiny yellow Z went away :hello: on the back of a flat bed..

Folllow Up - I hope this helps any fellow Z owners!!!

Well after waiting 2 weeks for a back orded part from Nissan and the typical part changing service dept.
the dealer was able to locate the back ordered part from another dealer.

This is how it went down for anyony else who comes across this....
Reprogrammed both key fobs - (Not The Problem)

Problem Part --> Turns out to be the "Steering Lock Assembly"Part# 48700-jf00d Priced from $542. - $622.
So I go hit with $887 Bill.. (2 Hours Labor, $622 Part + Tax)
12 Mo./12K Mile Warranty on parts and labor on the repair.

I think the dealer was fair for this repair. But for the love of repair service
you can get a Hip replacement in 5 hours!!!! 2 weeks just sucks!

They need to recall this part. - It happens on to many models.

I hope this helps any fellow Z owners!!!

i think the solenoid is part of the steering lock assy...

glad you got your car back. thanks on the pn for the 48700-JF00D. :)

Is your car out of warranty?

kenchan 12-05-2011 09:54 AM

if you guys are interested, search the GT-R forums and other info as it is rather common for their early 2009 models. they use a different PN steering lock, but probably from the same german manufacturer.

werd is why would a japanese company let a german company build this motor driven electronic device. :shakes head: german cars frequently have electronic problems...why use the same dirty needle? :icon14:

I have the same issue with my car. I've been waiting for over a week for the steering lock assembly to come into the dealership after being on and off the phone with Nissan for over 3 weeks (I got lucky and Nissan will be paying for the parts and labor). And I totally agree with you, Nissan should recall this part. I cant wait for this headache to be over!!!!

I have no idea. I'll have to get back to you on that one when I get home. But correct me if I am wrong, but are these issues occurring with all the 09 z's??

not sure if all 2009, but i know the early release GTR's had the same issue. it's using a different PN lock, but same issue.

did you buy your Z around Aug 2009? that's when i bought mine and mine is a June 2009 build date. probably borderline affected/not affected.

i dont dd the car and rarely lock it unless i grab a pop or something at the gas station so probably no issue for me, but can't be 100% sure. we shouldnt have to worry about this though. :ugh2:

Ad me to the list.
Bought the car in April used. Had it towed the first time when I had the fuel pump cut out on me after a hard right hand turn and uphill acceleration. Figured that out at home later while reading the forums. You guys rule btw!!
Got it towed the second time after some dumb chick ran a red and took off the front end about 2 months ago. That was $8000.
Now I leave work today and the car wont start..this time I looked on the forum while sitting there cursing. I tried to reset ecu and that didnt work. I'm getting tired of watching it pull away on a flatbed. I spoke to the service dept and mentioned what I figured it was from what I found out here. I guess we'll see tomorrow. Its out of warranty so I can hardly wait.

Is this problem isolated to just the 2009s? First time I'm seeing anything about it. Now I'm going to be paranoid...

Forrest 12-06-2011 09:38 PM

2009 370z. Manual with syncro. Bought in March 09.

Same stuff happen to me today on 12/6/11. Had car towed to my house via flatbad. Thank god the steering wheel lock happened while the wheels are turned straight or the tow truck driver would not have put it on the bed.

I will call the dealership and see about them picking it up.
