Got a call from the dealer yesterday. I can pick up my car today. My steering lock did in fact fail. I guess not all 2011's are prone from this malfunction.

Do you know what revision the original steering lock was? Do you know what revision the new steering lock is?

Any update on if Nissan will warranty this?

i went into best buy today on my 2010 came out 5 minutes later and nothing. the wheel is unlocked so it can be turned freely but the key fob indicator light is on and neither of my keys work. i had to get the car towed into the dealership... the guy at the service department looked up the part replacement # on the GTR and said that the part was covered on that car but not on the Z.

what gives? has anyone tried calling Nissan?

If your car is within the warranty time frame and your vehicle suffers from a bad steering lock, then it should be replaced under warranty. Other members on this forum have had their faulty lock replaced under warranty.

The GTR's steering lock was replaced under a recall.

jeffd 10-13-2012 06:19 PM

sorry i didn't type that out as clearly as i should have

shouldn't the 370z be covered under the same recall as on the GTR? if its the same part #. my car is out of warranty and really not looking forward to the 1200$ tag i've seen quoted on here.

Sadly I don't believe Nissan holds 370Z owners with the same regard as GT-R owners. A better company would.

Just had the column lock failure last Thursday @ 17,500 miles. Rev C. It best be covered under warranty.

I saw in a few posts up that a rev E failed. Does anyone know if Nissan actually fixed the problem or a just replacing the part & it could happen again? GM did something like this on the C-5 vettes. They even had a recall, but it only solved the column lock problem on the auto, not the manual. I'm thinking that the bypass harness I saw in another thread may be worthwhile still.

Nobody knows if they actually fixed the steering lock with the latest revisions.

Nissan obviously knows about the problem because they removed the Steering Lock module from the 2012 and newer models completely.

Welcome me to the club of having my car not start because of that damn steering wheel lock. Luckly, my wheel isn't locked. I bought my 2009 used from the dealership with 28,820 miles on it. I haven't even owned it for a year yet.

Also, my car is beeping 3 times after I lock the car with the remote. I hope my battery does not die :(

This blows! :(

kactussjack 10-22-2012 08:02 AM

Does anyone have a copy of the GTR recall or a TSB? I'd like to take a look at it.

Has anyone had the column lock mechanism fail again after getting it fixed?
