Car Won't Start
Car wouldn't start today. Got a yellow blinking key symbol. The car battery and key fob are fine. I had to get it towed to the dealership. From research in this forum, it seems like it could be that steering lock issue. My car is a 2009 which seems to be the year with all the problems. I'll update when I hear what is wrong from the dealer. Not pleased.

I've tried removing the fuse for the steering lock and also clipping that brown wire and neither worked for me. I had to fork out $1100 for it...hopefully you don't

Was the steering lock issue fixed in 2011? or 2012?

The fix was they finally got rid of the whole damn thing in later 2011 models. The Rev C and Rev D versions they put in some 2010 and 2011 models are not recalled, yet there were failures noted on this forum for both Rev C and Rev D versions prior to Nissan even issuing the recall for Rev A and Rev B versions :shakes head:

Over the next few days, I did some trial and error and it turned out to be the original key fob. The one that I always used was causing the no-start condition. When I broke out the secondary fob, the problem went away completely. In the Spring I will have to get a replacement and all should be good. May not be the same as yours, but worth a try.... |
Got a call from nissan service department and it is the steering lock issue. They told me $1,100 repair. What a great Christmas present.

So I got my car back today and luckily the repairs for the steering lock were free. It was covered under a recall for that mechanism. I lucked out!

I wasn't that lucky though. Late 2011 model, my steering lock failed a few days ago, and I had to pay $1340 to the dealership to have it fixed.
