yes, under the foam. I am not aware of it overheating. It has never turned off...

Great! Do you know that the depth is of the speaker itself? I assume you have taken the speakers out. Do you hear a difference?

Speakers are about 3 1/2", i would say 5 - 6" overall give or take. Sounded a little louder. Felt the bass a bit more too. I have to drive it around to ultimately see. Good luck!
