smart top
video of smart top from remote control
smart top works wile driving up to 25 mph works in revers, can control both windows at same time from the roof switch, can put windows up or down from fob key. will take more videos on request. Def Loving my smart top :) |
I'm still waiting to get mine shipped to me that I pre ordered months ago. How did you already get yours???
I do like your video though... because it gives me a good idea of exactly how my car will look when the top is dropping automatically as I have the exact same car as you (same color, same rims) :-) |
How easy was it to fit??

it probbly takes about 2 minutes to install, i was able to get the first one made, after the other guy i think CRASH the one that sold his car when to mod4cars lab and let them borrow his car to develop it, i was next inline and when they receive their first factory made plug in play i had the opportunity to test it out and make sure it works so now they are confident that this product works and im happy i have the very first one made :))) it is definitely worth the wait it makes the car that much better

Well I hope this time it actually ships on 8/1. It used to say 7/1 and as soon as 7/1 hit it got pushed back to 8/1. All month long as I've walked towards my car I think how sweet it would be if the top could already be dropping as I approach.:mad::eek:
|
This just in... mods4cars just posted this on their Facebook page:
"Finally, the SmartTOP for Nissan 370Z Roadster is available. We will ship this Monday! " Sweet... get em while they're hot boys and girls! |

I installed my Smart Top today. Wasn't difficult at all, took maybe 45 min. I love it, so much more convenient than the basic top controls. Now I back out of the garage while the top is lowering and in parking lots, open the top while walking up to the car.
|
Installed mine last night. I agree, took about 45 min taking my time. Longest part was deciding if & where to run the usb cable for easier future updates, etc. I ended up running mine into the cabin behind the foldout document holder, but through the square panel at the lower right behind it...you can actually run the cable at the bottom of that and put the panel cover back on it, allowing the cable to sit under the foldout document holder. Very nice to have one touch operation, back out while the top is operating, and use the remote for operating it. Only thing I've noticed so far is that the chirp settings don't seem to do much, as I have mine set to off but the factory chirps still sound with locks/unlocks.
|
It seems that the "chrips" they refer to are short horn beeps. I left mine on because I like the little chirps when you lock and unlock the doors. Now I get a very short horn beep each time I press the unlock button on the remote. I plan to turn that off soon.
Also, I tried to disable the auto-door lock feature but my doors still locked at 15mph. |
Got mine too, installed it and absolutely love this product/feature. It really is a huge convenience to be able to operate the top with one press of the button (without holding it) and while the vehicle is moving under 25mph. I didn't realize it would like it this much!! Its great for when your pulling into your neighborhood and you can have the top up by the time you pull into your driveway and park your car. Or be able to drop or raise the top at stop lights without the fear of the light turning green too soon and people behind you getting pissed as you are forced to wait while your top completes its function. Overall I'm loving this and think it was well worth it.
Axeman... about the door locks feature. I don't think this module will disable the factory door lock feature. In fact I think they advertise/include the "Auto Door Lock' feature as an additional feature (maybe something they offer on all their modules as an added convenience for vehicles that don't already have that feature (like the Z does). Maybe they didn't realize the car already has it? Or like I said they just add it on all their modules? That would be my guess. What's your guys take on the blinking hazards during top operation (when opening or closing with the key fob)? You keep that feature on or turn them of? I've got mine on right now and I'm not sure how I feel. They blink in an alternating pattern, like police car lights or something. Not sure if I like it, though it is kind of an interesting look. Leaving that on for now. |
Got mine ordered.
Thanks for killing the group buy AK... |
Any of you guys experiencing any problems with your SmartTop? Mine seems to have crapped out. Was working fine for a couple of days. Then it just stopped working. And it was while the top was down. My top wouldn't move at all! I couldn't even put it up. I eventually got the top up but It seems may have a loose connection or something. The top indicator light in my gauge cluster keeps randomly blinking now and I the top doesn't go up or down. I need to figure out how I'm going to get the rear hatch open so I can look at the device or uninstall it.
Just curious if anyone else has had any issues like this at all. |
UGH... I have not gotten mine yet...
Let us know how it goes... |

I haven't had time to look into this but I plan to tonight. I'll let you know if my attempt to check all the wires and maybe reinstall the thing works or not. I'm a little frustrated. Hope I didn't get a bad unit or wiring harness. |

Just put mine in this afternoon. 39 minutes for the install.
I love it. Still have to get the windows doing what I want but everything else is great... |
Kirkster... glad you hear you got your installed and all is good. It really is sweet huh?
Well I am happy to report that I now got mine working again too! Took a look at it this afternoon and went through and checked all the connections. Now it seems to be communicating with everything correctly and its working as it should. I think it just had a loose connection at one of the wire clamps is my guess. Took it for a little drive and tried to hit as many bumps as I could to see if anything would come loose again. All seems to be good now. Man, this mod is just a dream to have installed in the car, when all is working correctly. I hope it stays working properly. The pain in the a$$ and what concerns me is that when its not making a clear connection the top doesn't work at all, and if you can't get the top to move you can't get into the rear easily. If I was to get caught in a rain storm and I got a loose connection, that would really suck. Knocking on wood over here hoping that doesn't happen again. But yes... you all should get this thing. Its awesome! |
Hi all, not sure if I am the first in the UK to install one, but everything went well, and functions work when in the car, e.g. from the button, but cannot get the functions to work with the remote ?? Any idea's would be great ..
Someone mentioned fuses, but I guess if everything works from the car, then this could not be the problem ?? I have sent an email to M4C support so will see what they say, but maybe you guys saw this and fixed it ?? Many thanks in advance Bubba |

mods4cars product manual Also... I noticed that the timming of the tripple button press has to be just right. You can't do it too fast (which is too bad, it would be a lot easier to just be able to triple click). You have to push the button at about 1 second intervals or a lot of times it won't work, or just the windows go down and it doesn't register the 3rd click. Hope that helps. |
Quote:
|
Remember to take a full second between button pushes. Mine did not work at first because I was pushing the button too fast.
|
Yep, and make sure all 3 presses are registering (should see the lights flash with each push, which makes timing about right if you wait for the lights before the next press). Then, you have to wait a couple of seconds for the windows to drop & top to start operating (there is a lag from when you finish the button presses).
|
Ordered mine, looking forward to installing and having fun with it.:tiphat:

Very easy to customize with the 8 different mode settings. |
Whoop whooop Installed the smart top. Now I feel smart. Man this thing should have been programmed from the factory. I also finally got my remote garage door opener to work. Man are my electrical skills lacking LOL. Mods4cars has a great product here. The only issue I had was the front yellow wire clip slipped and I couldn't find it for about 15 minutes:shakes head: That and I discovered that if you lock the door you sometimes have to unlock the doors prior to clicking 3 times. Working fine:ughdance:

Still no GB on this?
|
There was an attempt at a group buy last year but SmartTop was not a sponsor for the forum so we were not allowed to post the group buy here and it fell apart. Since then everyone who wanted one has already bought one. It is great, just go ahead and get it. The group buy only saved you about $15 anyway.
|
Best mod I have! I use it every time I drive!
|
Can an auto body shop install it. I'm not to savy at this sort of thing and do not want to fuc$ it up. Or is there a better source for the install. Thanks
|
Any shop that does radio installs etc. should be able to install it. It is really simple to install the unit, the only minor difficulty is running a wire up to the front passenger side of the cabin to connect the wire that controls the windows. It took me less than 30 min. to do the install myself.
