This is great... We are up to 14 interested owners!
List updates on post #1 Keep it coming I know we have more that are concerned with our tops in the future and would love to have this option developed! :tiphat: |
This company is offering a free top to a donor vehicle to help develop.
I am not affiliated with this company but want to buy a 370Z Roadster top from them if they produce. Like I said before this would not only be a great option to have it would help many with top issues that are out of warranty. We are almost there to develop this hard top option
I keep reading more issues and concerns so now is the time to jump in and get this option developed! Let me know who else is interested? |
I sent in a request for consideration.
|
I'd be interested in a hard top option. I'd drive more in winter months if I had a hard top. Thinking the salt from the roads would not be good on the fabric convertible top.
|
I was wondering how many z34 owners have owned a car before with a removable hard top?
I have: A Alfa Spyder(factory hardtop),MGB(aftermarket top). Both did not fit well. The MG top leaked, the Alfa top was great quality, but air leaks made for a very noisy drive. What is a proposed price for a z34 top? All aftermarket tops I have seen(there were several for the z33)do not match the quality of a new 370Z.Other problems are marks left from gaskets that touch the body. Do not expect perfection. |

Please review their website... They have several pictures and some videos. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
We have our 15 interested owners and Suzook who appears to be interested in the free top loaner car program. List has been updated.
I will contact the manufacturer and update all. Please let me know if any others are interested. Thanks |
I'm Interested
I'd be interested to know more. Sure sounds like a possible alternative to the top issues. Although I am also interested in learning more about the repair possibilities I have seen here.
|
I think infiniti's 2014 q60 and g37 had a hard top convertible manufactured that way idk why they wouldn't do it with the Z since Nissan owns infinity

I spoke to the vendor and he is currently in discussions with the loaner car owner to figure out the next step.
Please let me know if any others want to be added to the interested list. The more we have the sooner we can start the process. We have met the minimum but I know we have several others that are interested. :tiphat: |
I would be interested depending the costs.
|
I'd be interested depending on the price point and exactly how its done but that yellow one thats been popping up on Facebook and Instagram lately looks great in my opinion

Where to put it when it is off?

Good point--storage. I see this has not yet been brought up. I have seen some nifty pulley systems that raise and store the roof on the garage ceiling. Got to think this would not be practical for many. Since I've owned a few cars with removable hardtops,I'll offer some input. First,to install or take off a roof is a 2 person job.Depending on the weight, could be easy or a bit harder. On the storage topic,my Alfa Spyder had the best system. It came with a aluminum rack of sorts that stored the roof vertically. It was on casters.Had a nice cover that protected the roof. Did not take up much room at all. Just slide it next to a wall. Very nice design. However, has to be a substantial cost in this type of unit. Not sure if any roof companies offer these. Seems to be custom made. |
southzz,
Hard top racks that have casters and roll on the floor are not new. Owners of 55 -57 Thunderbirds can purchase them from many specific suppliers, as well as the older 350 SL Mercedes owners, and even the new Thunderbirds 2002 - 2004? Anyone with any skills at all could easily make one up from steel tubing or even wood, line it with rubber padding, and roll the top off into a garage corner. Anyone interested needs to look up an online Thunderbird supplier's online catalogue to see photos of the rack, and copy it accordingly. I've also seen the overhead pulley system for hard top storage online, and helped a local friend build one for his MGB, using a hand crank from an old boat trailer as the winding and brake mechanism. Again, rope, pulleys and wood were all that was needed. And yes, to prevent top or car damage, installing and removing a hard top is a two person job. Ask one of my friends how I know. Gene |
Update...
Spoke to vendor yesterday and we have a donor car that has agreed to transport to the manufacturer and initiate development. Like I said before this list is a group of 370Z Roadster owners like myself that are "interested" in this option to avoid a major expense of replacing the convertible assembly since Nissan will not fix a top and only replace $$$. No commitment is implied... I just want to gather as many roadster owners interested in this option to develop for all future needs. I personally was shocked when I was quoted $16,000.00 by my local Nissan dealer to replace my entire roof assembly only because a bracket in the frame had broken. Although I sourced a top repair I still want this option available vs paying this outrageous amount to repair from the dealer. :tiphat: |
Great News!
The Prototype 370Z hardtop is now in process!! I personally cannot wait for this to happen since my top does not function. I can only manually open it and close it and of course Nissan wants to replace the entire top to fix it. I know many of you have issues as I read this constantly on new post. I would honestly take this option even if I didn't have any issues. I race my Z and would prefer a hardtop without loosing the joy of a convertible. Let me know if any others are interested and I will update the list. This really helps the manufacturer and encourages them to invest in this development. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9f7aa40333.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...388f41de65.jpg Example of one of their tops: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hBdBbrVO7w Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

http://www.cdmfabrication.com/bbpics/harken4.jpg http://www.cdmfabrication.com/bbpics/harken1.jpg I can take the top off by myself easily. I've put the top back on by myself as well, but I prefer to have some one to help guide it down. It makes it easier so I don't have to perfectly line the Jeep up. I doubt a 370 top would be near as heavy as a Jeep hard top is, but the Harken system was well worth the money for me. |
I don't have a convertible, but I'm excited to see how it turns out!

I think it will look odd... It would be interesting though...

At times the rag top looks like a carnival tent with its sharp raised ridges. But i can honestly say i really like the overall shape of the vert more so than the coupe. Just my personal taste tho. |
carbon fiber?
Quote:
Having worked with much carbon fiber, the top shown sure looks like a carbon fiber wrap(vinyl)to me. Furthermore,to do the top in real solid CF including the interior finishing and appropriate mounting hardware would be very expensive. |
Husband is going to kill me
Interested. I really really like the car. I just bought it less than 2 weeks ago and already am having top issues.

Ceilings space
hmmm, I need that lift for my jeep roof, but finding ceiling space may not be so easy for a jeep roof and the z roof and all the lights my husband insists on.

OP, thanks for keeping this thread active :)

I'm interested.
Just the other day I opened the top halfway to clean the inside of the rear window and the soft top operating switch on the center console stopped working. I panicked and began to wonder about all the options I didn't have! It took a while, but eventually started working again. I still don't know what happened. By the way, my Z Roadster is a 2010 and has been out of warranty for a while. |
