Will you pay over sticker to have a new 370Z?

Just wondering how many of you are willing to pay over sticker for a new Z? I have no idea what the demand for the car will be, but surely even with the crap economy there will be more people wanting the car, than are available.

I for one won't pay over sticker for any car, and I'm comfortable waiting for a while until some good deals are available.

What say you?

Crash 12-25-2008 02:27 AM

Nope. Won't pay more than MSRP. I'm tired of that. These dealerships are going to lose my business if they mark up. I expect a 1-2K markup, but I've seen some CRAZY mark-ups before... When we bought our Solstice GXP, the dealships wanted 20K over sticker! And the I've already seen a 40K markup on the Challenger SRT8.

If I see the dealerships mark-up the Zs like I've been seeing others do to their cars, I won't be buying a Z right away. I'll wait until the price drops to MSRP. I'm patient, not stupid.

nogoodname 12-25-2008 11:14 AM

no way jose !!!

i would be paying under sticker if anything.....got the G for under sticker and look at my signature !!!!!!

chinny 12-25-2008 11:21 AM

I wouldnt pay more than MSRP. Anything over it would just be plain and stupid.

nogoodname 12-25-2008 11:41 AM

the whole excitement is to get a Z, but also to try and get a deal

Our local dealer was charging $8k over sticker for the SRT8 a few months ago, but now they are already $2k off of sticker. That didn't take long. I drove both an R/T and SRT8 last week and wasn't very impressed.

xDIEGOx 12-25-2008 12:59 PM

I'm going to wait for a second year production Z anyways. Markups won't be problem. Either way I wouldn't pay over MSRP.

Yeah... I'm not impressed with a lot of cars these days... Lots of money for little material. That's another thing about the new Z that is exciting me so much. I figured they dealerships would eventually remember that we're in a serious recession and drop the price like a brick in water. They're so stupid for marking up at a time like this. LOL

nogoodname 12-25-2008 03:47 PM

^^ I will bet that dealerships would not mark-up a Z like the GT-R's has been

just the other day, i got an ad from my dealership that are selling there GT-R's at MSRP !!!!

shumby 12-25-2008 03:52 PM

ya never pay over sticker for any car lol

nogoodname 12-25-2008 03:58 PM

^^ this is coming from the person who bought 2...yes 2 g37's for sticker price

shumby 12-25-2008 03:58 PM

first was sticker second one was not

Mythos219 12-25-2008 08:54 PM

I'd never pay over MSRP for a car. If I can't get it at MSRP I'll wait it out. Unless its a Ferrari the price will drop.

frost 12-25-2008 10:43 PM

Everyone here who is saying that they would pay over sticker, just know what you're the ones messing it up for everyone. These a-hole dealers couldn't charge over sticker if you people would refuse to pay it.

LynxFX 12-25-2008 11:15 PM

Are you kidding? In this market they will be lucky to get me to pay invoice for a new car.

Bring on the redtag, 0% financing please. :)

WHOOT! YOU TELL 'EM!

I totally agree. Fools that rush out to buy and settle over sticker are just screwing the rest of the community! (Including themselves by paying more in the first place)

chimZEE370 12-26-2008 02:03 PM

if you are paying more than msrp :gtfo2:

zman1910 12-26-2008 02:49 PM

I don't plan on paying more than 1k over invoice if I decide to pull the trigger on a first year model. Second year model .... no more than a couple hundred over invoice

blacknbean 12-27-2008 03:51 PM

In this market? Dunno about that.

nogoodname 12-27-2008 08:50 PM

actually....less than 6 these days....lol

it took the G 9-12 months to go invoice

SvR370z 12-28-2008 02:26 PM

Anyone who buys one of these when they first come out will lose money.
Youll lose money on a new car anyways but in todays market dealers cant sell cars that people need much less a sports car that seats two people.
Give this car 3 months before buying and youll save yourself 2 or 3 grand.
If the economy continues to take a crap maybe even more.

Tin, you must also be considering a camaro; I think I remember seeing you posting over there. Between the two cars, I'm sure we can get one for msrp or below :icon17:

Yup that's me! I really like the Camaro on paper, but I have serious doubts about GM's ability to even get the production line going. Then there will be 4-6 months of above MSRP due to the Camaro fanbois. I'm also interested in the new Mustang, but to a lesser degree than the Z or Camaro.

I drove an R/T and SRT8 Challenger last week and wasn't impressed. I love car shopping. :driving:

I agree, the camaro looks awesome on paper (and in pics), however, I have owned a 4th gen camaro, c5 and c6 vette, and an SSR (which I've nicknamed "the disaster") ... They have all been disappointing in quality and I'm finding it hard to give GM a 5th chance. Meanwhile, the 05 Z in my garage has had no major problems to date.

I checked out the challenger as well, felt like driving a boat ... no thanks. I also drove the mustang when the new body style came out, even cheaper interior than the General, plus it drove like a truck.

I also drove a 2LT 08 Vette, it was for sale at about $8k off of sticker, but I just can't handle the massive depreciation on those things. That and a $50k car should have heated seats standard! Not sure when the Mustang will be available, but I will also take a look at the Genesis coupe as well.

Any word from your local dealers on availability?

On the Z? Not much word. All the local dealers are miraculously stupid about the 370. In fact, one guy told me two weeks ago that it wouldn't be coming out for another year. All they want to talk to me about is me taking a 350 off their lot instead. Stealerships, I hate em.
I did however see two truck carriers with 370s heading down the freeway a week and a half ago.

Crash 12-29-2008 12:24 AM

I've had 5 GMs... 2 4th Gen Trans Ams, a 79 Bonneville (my first car), a L98 Corvette, and an 07 GXP Solstice (turbo). I ONLY liked the 2002 WS6 which hardly had mechanical problems until my friend bottomed it out really bad... (After that it was game over for that car)

I'm NOT impressed at all with GM interior. Even the Cadi's have crap interior. Plain-Jane crap materials, with the most bogus GPS. Even the Corvette ZR1 which costs over $100,000 has garbage interior. I mean really... They need to get a clue. Also, I'm tired of EVERYTHING falling of the cars. GM quality is like Mon-Fri beer-day at the factories with Sat-Sun off.

For crying out loud, the damn door handles on the Solstice PULLED RIGHT OUT OF THE DOOR!!! BOTH OF THEM!!! The convertible top has been in TWICE for repair, a shock blew out, parts in the interior simply CAME OFF, and the back deck doesn't stay up if a tiny wind blows. The car is a horrid POS!

Done with American cars. Nissan all the way baby! Never had problems with our G35, M35 and for 19 year-old car, my Z is doing quite well!

Are you going to be shopping for the Z as soon as it comes out?

Minicobra1 12-29-2008 03:26 AM

I might pay MSRP, but definitely not a penny over, I'll never pay a mark-up, cars depreciate too quickly for that. I think dealers will be coming down on the price quickly on this car if they do. It's a little different then the GT-R's or Camero and Challengers, those havn't been around for awhile. I know the 370 is all new, but it's not a radical departure from a 2008 350z.

I'd like to pick one up in a few weeks, but if dealers are marking them up, I'll wait til spring or summer when the price goes down. The extra $ I save will go right to mods.

Braden

BanningZ 12-29-2008 09:33 AM

Summer is the time to buy, July/Augustish.

Below MSRP FTMFW!

I almost busted a gut laughing at this.
Out of my long resume (21 in 9 years) of sport and muscle cars, the only "american" car that was good quality was my 06 GTO, and it's hard to call that american since it was technically built in australia.

CrownR426 12-31-2008 11:16 AM

If anything I'm going to be paying less...
And I'll be getting more!
And I hope everyone here will too.
You gotta talk it out right!

Mythos219 12-31-2008 12:42 PM

^ Actually its $38,470. The MSRP base price says $34K something.

mattkim85 12-31-2008 01:44 PM

so basically the touring model is around $4000 more than the base?
