What is the best price?

I live in Scottsdale, Arizona and am very new to buying a car as I am 19 years old. I am going with my father to the dealership as the car will be under his name so I get get the lowest APR and then pay him monthly what I owe. I am going to purchase the 370z touring model with sports package and automatic transmission, no navigation. I am wondering what the best deal I could hope for or a great deal that would be respectable on both ends OTD tax title and license included. I plan on putting 15k down on the car and financing the rest over 60 months. Any suggestions. I have looked over invoice pricing but would like to know everyone's opinion. Any plans or suggestions as going about this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Invoice price is what you should shoot for, tax/title/etc. will depend on state and dealerships. I am not sure what AZ tax rate is so work on invoice price for the car and then add in yourself the tax/title, be wary of anything over 100USD for a dealership "fee." I paid 50 at my dealership in Texas for their documentation fee but many places will lower the price and then try to throw out a 150+ dealer fee to make the money back.

I dont know how experienced your dad is at this, but would google up some car-buying articles before you go. They will try to hit you with fees you don't need to pay, and other shenanigans you should know about. But basically, I see most people getting their cars here for $500 over invoice.

the sales tax in AZ is 8.5% i believe so could someone give me an OTD estimate as to what I should pay for this car. I see the invoice pricing would come to 35,724$ when I make a deal for the car including the sport package. would 39, 803 OTD or 40k be a great deal?

Even with Taxes you shouldnt pay over 38k OTD.

clubin90 08-18-2009 01:14 PM

really my dealer thnks i am somewhat crazy offering 38k OTD for a pearl white touring with sport because they have to ship it here. Any other comments?

FuszNissan 08-18-2009 01:17 PM

Where are they shipping it in from? Flatbed, trailer, driven?

clubin90 08-18-2009 01:32 PM

This is the reply I got:

I appreciate the emails but it seems we are on a different page on pricing. The Z I sent you had an invoice price of $36,657. I have no problem selling it $300-$500 over invoice. However, I have to factor in shipping(unless you want miles on it) along with the sales tax of($2,993) so without plates and doc fee I'm already at $39,650. My figure of $41,802 OTD would be my best number.

Thanks for your time.

Here is the invoice he sent me:

Current Configuration
56319
2009 370Z} TOURING COUPE AUTO

QAB-G
PEARL WHITE , BLACK

Invoice MSRP
BASE $33,122 $35,760

IKP $148 $200
ILLUMINATED KICK

SPT $2,602 $3,000
SPORT PACKAGE

TMA $65 $95
CARPETED TRUNK MA

50S $0 $0
50 STATE EMISSION

Freight Charge $720 $720

Total $36,657 $39,775

I am somewhat confused concerning your $37,500 OTD figure as the invoice price is $36,657 plus tax, title and license. We would also have to physically look at your Acura to achieve an accurate trade value. Is there a time you could stop in for that? Please let me know your thoughts.

1200.00 for plates and doc fee....lol he said doc(illegal) you can't charge a doc fee. You could be a D*ck and have some serious fun with this guy. There is a class action lawsuit going on for dealers charging a "Doc Fee"

fuct 08-18-2009 02:17 PM

go get em' Fusz!!

id tell him 40k OTD....

oh and give your dad i big ol' thanks!! I mean since your going to have to tell the insurance company a lil white lie that you are not the primary driver of the car because its technically your fathers Z.

clubin90 08-18-2009 02:41 PM

hehe lol Maybe I will do something about the Doc fee should I shoot for 39-39.5k OTD for his pricing of the doc fee. Illegally lol! any htoughts on how i should handle this.

FuszNissan 08-18-2009 04:10 PM

Doc Fee is a legal process, and completion of this paperwork requires no skill beyond that possessed by an ordinary layman, so they have no right to leagally charge a "Doc Fee". Now they could call it something else and charge it. I love stirring the pot.

Ok, After being a member for just a few days and reading like crazy here is what's going on. I want a Graphite Nismo and have a dealer that says he will sell it for 38400 before T/T/T. I am trying to deal with another dealer right now with a White one. He says that 37424 is Invoice and that my offer for 37500 was a little crazy. What's the deal with this guy? Is he right? I Figured that it would be a good start seeing that someone got one for 37900 and I believe FUSZNISSAN said something like 37200 in another post. I don'twant to pay more than 38700 OTD. Is that not reasonable?
