370z Sport Package or Nismo?

hey u guys,

i am new to the forum. hopefully this is the right place to ask some questions.

looking to trade in my 08 G35 Sedan with a Z, but i can't make up my mind on which to purchase, the Z Sport or the Nismo? some are saying it is not worth the extra $5K or so, to get the Nismo, when the Z sport performs about the same. don't get me wrong, i know the Nismo has better specs, but is it worth the extra$$$?

also, do most of you have to "pre-order" the Nismo? And how much did you paid for yours?

thanks!

Naenyn 09-29-2012 02:16 AM

I'm not big on modding .. and prefer the look and performance of the Nismo .. so that is the one I decided to go with. However, you really can't go wrong either way. The sport would probably be better if you're in to modding it yourself.

Regarding having to order the Nismo ... that really depends a lot on the color you want, if you want Bose, and what is available in your area. The nearest one in the config I wanted was 400+ miles away and was going to require extra shipping $, so I opted to order one. I don't yet know what the final OTD price is going to be, but I'm getting it for $500 under invoice. Invoice for mine from my order is $40,182.

Heavy modding=Sport Z, not looking to spend that much modding=Nismo Z. Nismo Z looks good as is and not much exterior modding needed, maybe just some performance.

After comparing the two, the Nismo looks great, but you can buy much better aftermarket items that will produce better numbers.

frost 09-29-2012 01:33 PM

FINALLY, a sport package vs. nismo thread.

tjlazer 09-29-2012 01:40 PM

If you want to get the Nismo because of the 18HP increase, that would be one expensive mod. Throw a CAI on the Base Z and you are there for ~$500.

If if you want a factory upgraded package across the board (and can afford it), get the Nismo.

jcosta79 09-29-2012 02:01 PM

Go with the NISMO. You won't regret it.

I'll sum up the next 30 posts for you. Nismo owners love their nismos and sport package owners love their sport package. Nismo owners will say the extra money is well spent, while the sport package owners will argue you could get more performance spending that money on aftermarket mods.
Then someone's gonna get butt hurt, and everyone's gonna start pissing all over each other.

You're never going to hear a Nismo owner say "I wish I had gotten the Sport package instead."

You WILL find some Sport package owners that wish they had gotten the Nismo however.

You usually never regret going with the best available option.

Okay now, Who wishes they got the Roadster? It's clearly the best version lol. :stirthepot:

mwhit02 09-29-2012 08:19 PM

As an owner of a Nismo, I will say it makes sense to buy the car if you like the factory Nismo bodykit and Rays wheels, and dont plan on changing them out. I would have probably just bought a different model if it wasnt for the fact the Nismo bodykit costs a couple thousand, and then paint on top of that...at which point you should have just bought the Nismo to start with.

I will say, daily driving the Nismo is not fun. The rear likes to buck up like a horse over bumps, so then you may feel the need to change out the suspension, which some may argue defeats the point of buying the Nismo. The base stereo sucks (not sure what the Sport model gets), but I think it would be nice to have the nav system.

When I was looking to buy a white one, I couldnt find any near me on autotrader.com Then I called a local dealer who checked the national inventory and told me there were two white ones at the same dealership 400 miles away. I told them I would buy the car for what they were asking if they covered shipping, which they did.

This is a valid question. I wish they made a Nismo targa top version.

.c2 09-30-2012 03:24 PM

Not sure if the Nismo gets the bose system, but if they do then they are WAY better than the base model w/ sports package lol. Correct me if I'm wrong, but looking at bolt on gains the Nismo model seems to get noticeably more whp and tq from bolt ons compared to the regular Z?

joesmithf1 09-30-2012 04:23 PM

thank you all for your inputs! they really help. I really wish the front of the Nismo would look more like the Sport version, or looks more aggressive like the new G37 Sedan. Anyway, maybe just personal preference.

One more question, do most of you prefer the keep the OEM suspension on the Nismo? i know changing them out for a lower spring will defeat the purpose of the Nismo suspension, but i have seen a couple of them on the road, and they look a bit high.

mwhit02 09-30-2012 04:48 PM

to me, the nismo suspension is for track smooth roads only. Anything else, and it's just too harsh and like you said, too high. Im just going to install the Swift springs and see if they helps out, otherwise I'll be going BC coilovers with Swift springs.

maybe because since the car has the Nismo exhaust, intake gains would be more beneficial.

I had both a 2010 touring/sport and now have a 2013 Nismo,the Nismo is the car I should have bought in 2010.:hello:

370Z w/ Sports Package or Nismo

Hello,

I am new to the forum but i've been snooping around here for some time now. I have decided to buy a 370Z but i am not sure whether to get the base with sports package and do mods afterwards or just spend the extra cash and go for nismo any suggestions?

FL 4Motion 03-30-2014 06:21 PM

test drive both, see what floats your boat more.

oh, and in before this turns ugly (again, for like the 100th fvcking time).

P's_Z 03-30-2014 06:37 PM

What he said ^

I think the sport package is the best bang for buck in the Z lineup, you can save some cash now and mod later. I have the sport package and dont feel like im missing anything, but thats just me.

However, if you do have the cash now, and like the nismo, get the nismo. You can also mod the nismo later if you feel the need.

gomer_110 03-30-2014 06:57 PM

Reasons to get a Nismo vs. Base plus Sport:

1. No intention to mod or very light modding.
2. Prefer the looks of the Nismo.
3. Want the additional exclusivity of the Nismo.

I have one for reasons 2 & 3. If you plan on tracking your Z and doing a lot of upgrades you're probably better off getting a base + sport.

Just remember that in the end it's your decision.

So ur calling everyone who modded their cars who didnt buy a nismo a pussy? Cuz if thats so u should gtfo.

Op its all preference. If u want to mod ur car and make it unique go for it! If u want a nice looking ride thats already fun to drive and responsive go with the nismo. I personally didnt want to skip out the luxuries of the touring sport package so i wanted leather and and all that so i got that and modded it like crazy. Now it turns more heads and is faster than a stock nismo. But if u like the nismo body package i would get the nismo cuz the fitment is better than any aftermarket kit.

falconfixer 04-01-2014 03:23 PM

Get the base/sport 'cause you can't get an automatic with the NISMO and most everyone on here will tell you that the 7AT is the way to go.

And here we go. :drama:

enkei2k 04-01-2014 03:25 PM

here's something I found out that can help you.

If you want a longer Z, get the Nismo

If you want a shorter Z, get the base + sport

370zleeper 04-01-2014 03:51 PM

If you like the Nismo but don't like paying the extra. Do like I did. Buy one that was one of their test drive cars. Mine had 2000 on the odometer and I walked out for 37500. Gotta do some searching on the Internet but it'll be well worth it.

DLSTR 04-01-2014 04:15 PM

Words of wisdom! I wanted to get Sport and add Amuse body kit but at the last moment I switched to Nismo.

Sometimes I have nightmares at night that I've got Sport...

tjlazer 03-17-2015 11:28 PM

I got the sport, then made it a Nismo! ;)

Wow! I've ever seen a blue Nismo before, that is awesome!

HEK 03-18-2015 01:26 AM

If you are like me and drive the Z a daily driver I would go for the Sports/ Touring since is more civilized and the time spent driving would be more pleasant with the audio as well. The Nismo is more of a weekend vehicle or a second car. I'm not sure you can put snow tires and use the Nismo in the Winter like I do my Z....just my 2 cents but both are awesome machines :driving:

I would never want a "Z" with an auto. Removes the fun factor.

I daily a Nismo and she drove like a champ in snow and 2 inches of ice/slush. Gotta give it a bath like every other day is the only down side:driving:

Davey 03-20-2015 06:20 AM

I daily my NISMO 3 seasons.

Especially now that the NISMO has the Recaro seats and all the toys you used to get on the sport/touring I would definitely say go for the NISMO.
