never heard of that place, is it any good?

Got a call today, they said that the vehicles are having issues with the power steering switch, no eta. My car is at the port, 2 hrs away from me, effed.

Finally got my VIN today. Car was built on October 21. ETA is week of 12/9. I'm not 100% sure if I'm reading it correctly, but my car is #761

Congrats! I'm not sure how the VIN works, does that mean you have the first 2012 model?

It certainly looks that way to me!!!!! Wow.

So martin, yours arrived on October 26th, and has a VIN# of 0001, which appears to be the VERY first 2012 built by the way. But, can you ask yoru dealer if they can look up the build date?

Thanks!

Okay, some math.

Mine was built on 9/25, with a VIN# in the low 500's. Yours was built 26 days later with VIN# in the mid 700's. So in 26 days they built roughly 250ish cars. So on average, that's about 10 cars a day, or 70 a week, or 280 a month.

So wow, that's slower than I expected. Perhaps there was a Japanese holiday in there or something? Or a shut down? I mean at that rate, they will only be building about 3500 cars all year. We are getting down close to Porsche & Ferrari sort of numbers.

Hmmmmmmm?

Does everyone else just get a chuckle out of Bonzo trying to figure all this out? :) It's the only reason I come to this board - just to see what he's up to!

Is it just me or would anyone else not want the first 2012 off the line? No telling if any undetected problems might exist or not. I'd prefer a mid year model any day!

Well, since the only thing that changed for sure is the oil cooler, and the only speculative thing that changed is some underbody brake vents (that we have yet to see), I wouldn't be worrying about it at all. Being one of the first 2009 cars was a different story. I know many people that swear by not buying a first model year car. That's when it makes sense to wait if you are afraid of issues. 2012? Naw, not me.

Almost half the cars I've bought in my life have been a new model for that year - and one was from a new company that year (Acura in the late '80s). Getting a new model year that has had very few changes doesn't seem like that big of a risk.

vettett15 11-11-2011 04:01 PM

Sorry, the idoit at the dealer got it wrong, apparently there is a volunteer recall replacement for the window switch (don't know whats wrong or which one), not a power steering switch. Parts won't come in until Tuesday, cars that have been sold get first priority so they are now estimating end of next week. FML

martin82 11-11-2011 04:21 PM

Wow I had no idea I had the first one. Good to know!
