370Z Base/Sport or G37S

I'm having a 2009 Platinum Graphite 370Z Base/Sport transferred in, but they have a 2008 Black Obsidian G37S in inventory. The 370Z has ~6k miles and is $27.1k and the G37S has 19k miles and is $29.9k.

How do these compare in terms of fun? I've been doing practically nothing but watching every 370Z YouTube video and reading tons of posts here while awaiting the car (should be in any day now), and am really excited about the car. I'm coming from a 2002 Chevy Prizm LSi (Toyota Corolla clone), so it's a GIGANTIC upgrade, along with being my first solo car purchase.

However, I just found out about the availability of the G37S. From what I know about it, it'd probably be a lot more comfortable (more along the lines of a Touring/Sport), but it's significantly larger and heavier, and the interior is "refined" rather than sporty. G3x also seem to be far more common out in public. How do these cars really compare? Is a G37s significantly less fun than a 370Z? Is it worth the extra money for the leather, sunroof, touchscreen nav and other comforts missing from the 370Z base?

Thanks! Eagerly awaiting any info you can give me :happydance:

Z = true sports car
G = 2 door sedan

Depends what you are after.

Definitely sports car, so that probably seals it. Still, does the G37S have Synchro Rev Match on the 6MT?

I had a G37S and loved it but nothing beats the 370Z in terms of fun. The Z is a true drivers car and although they have the same motors they drive like completely different cars and the Z is A LOT faster than my old G. I don't regret it one bit and g37s down here are a dime a dozen and I rarely ever see 370's

When I was first looking to purchase I found a '09 black G37x. Turned out the guy was also selling a '10 370z T/S but didn't have it listed. I wanted the Z more, but was fighting the urge just because I knew the g37 was more practical since I sometimes need to drive people around.

I leave with the intention on coming back in two days to complete the transaction and the guy gets another offer on the G that he can't refuse. Leaving me with no other option than to get the Z, but at a reduced price since he felt bad for promising me to not sell the Infiniti to someone else. In the end I'm glad it worked out this way because I love my Z more than any other car I've owned.

Ya, same out here in Cali. I'm starting to see as many g37's as I see 3 series BMW's. Only time I really ever see another 370z is driving by the dealership or at a meetup.

Lol... Oh and I forget about the girl that also has a MB T/S downstairs in my apt complex. I had to get a Fairlady badge cause I'd get confused walking through the parking garage.

Go with the Z if you don't need back seats

yakz 08-24-2010 05:02 PM

No need for back seats. Hope my Z comes in tomorrow. Financing is ready to go, insurance quote is reasonable... my first fun car after:

1989 Chevy S-10
1993 Ford Ranger
1992 Dodge Dakota
1995 Olds Achieva
2002 Chevy Prizm

Good Luck and you will love the Z. It is an awesome fun car. Who needs a practical car?????? We have all had them and switched up! Enjoy and let us know if you like it.

G37= chick car
370= Sports car

I would try to go a bit lower on the 370z being that it already has 6k on the odometer. Some people are getting 3k+ below invoice on new 09's, so for a used one you can surely do better than that.

I used to own a '04 G35 6MT and loved it. Now, the G35 and G37 coupes are two different beasts; but after test driving the G37S coupe, I came up with this comparison: the G37 is a great car, large, with a big engine inside. Goes fast, but feels heavy. The Z, in contrast, feels like a big (same) engine with metal wrapped around it.

Both are great cars - I do miss the second row when I drive the fam in the SUV. The G has a bit more refinement and is smoother on the ride. The Z is more involving, but rougher and noisier inside. So if you can do without the two extra seats, the Z is an enthusiast's choice.

Post up when you get it!
