So how trust worthy is carfax............

when buying a used vehicle? Does it really protect the buyer?

nogoodname 07-10-2010 09:43 PM

It gives you an idea and use your judgment.

shadoquad 07-10-2010 09:43 PM

Somebody told me that apparently one can doctor a carfax report. There's another service that can't be fudged. I don't know the name, but it's worth researching.

m4a1mustang 07-10-2010 09:43 PM

Yup, it gives you a pretty good idea. Some cars will have a lot of detail in the records, others won't. It all depends.

nogoodname 07-10-2010 09:44 PM

You could also call Nissan/Infiniti and ask where the car was bought from. The dealership can tell you the service history if you have the VIN.

Lemers 07-10-2010 09:47 PM

Car fax is just another tool. Just like taking the car to a machanic of your choice.

fullmonty 07-10-2010 09:54 PM

Get it but don't bet your life on it

whoady4shoady 07-10-2010 09:56 PM

Im thinking the same thing. I wish I knew someone in Georgia. I have seen an heard of situations where wives sell husbands cars on them to screw them over. Im just wondering if that could possible be the case, or if there is something really strange going on?

Why Town Center Nissan?

Here is the email they sent me.

Hi,

Thank you for being interested in buying my 2009 Nissan 370Z, 8,500 miles.
The car is registered on my name and the title is clear. It is in great condition, no dents or scratches.
It was always garaged and the regular maintenance was done in time. It wasn't involved in any accident and has never suffered any kind of damage. Also this is a non-smoker car. If you have any questions regarding the car just let me know! My final price on it is US $18,500. It is priced to sell fast !
I had a buyer offering $21,000 and I've lost about 2 weeks waiting for him to pay just to find out in the end that his loan wasn't approved, so if you don't need a loan, you can have it.
I can have the car delivered to your adress in about 4-5 days (the shipping fees will be handled by me). I decided to make this transaction through eBay. I believe this protects both buyer and seller and it's the right way to do this.
So don't get me wrong and don't take it personally but I would prefer to secure the deal through eBay.
I will be assured you will buy the car and you will be assured that you will receive it! Basically the money will be sent to them and they will keep the money until you receive the car and only after you inspect and drive it they will forward the money to me.
I don't want to offend you, but the car is priced for a fast sale so please if you intend to apply for a loan or financing do not reply to this message!

Look forward hearing from you,
Beverly Clement

Check the post above yours. The voice mail isnt to the name in the email either. Some crazy stuff. i just hope no one gets screwed over.

LunaZ 07-10-2010 10:38 PM

The CARFAX on my MS3 was clean even though it had been rear ended and had about $3500 worth of repairs.
So...

m4a1mustang 07-10-2010 10:39 PM

google the the last line of your e-mail reply "I don't want to offend you, but the car is priced for a fast sale so please if you intend to apply for a loan or financing do not reply to this message!"

It's a scam!

KingZee 07-10-2010 10:39 PM

Yeah for some reason I thought the end of the first page was the last post, I deleted my post when I saw the second page but I was too late...Deal sounds like BS though for sure.

It's a scam!

That is what I thought. Thanks man.

fullmonty 07-10-2010 11:29 PM

Ya friend it is totally a scam, with the way they say a third party company will hold the money. I heard about that on Ebay actually. The reason I said call Town Center Nissan is that according to the carfax, its where the car was bought from.

It is really crazy what people will try and get away with, but i guess there are people out there falling for it, or they wouldnt be trying it.

Jordo! 07-11-2010 05:09 AM

That's gotta be a scam, especially as it's listed as a silver car but there's a red one in the pic -- ask the seller to explain that. Should be good for a laugh...

Oh, even funnier, alledgedly it has a sunroof -- really now? :icon17:

This has scam written all over it. Ebay protection program deals are almost always scams because it only applies for sales that take place on ebay, not private ones like this. Google it to find numerous stories

My friend was looking at this car today, and again we thought it seemed a little low price wise. What do you guys think?

I was pricing them out about 1.5 yr ago at $39k. So $2k at doesn't seem too low

Oh ok, he was saying the BB was mid 40's he must have been typing in car info wrong or something.

Lemers 07-11-2010 05:34 PM

Mid $40s maybe a used 2010 bit not an '08 and not after a redesign. It's a dealer and you can see the car on the lot. $38k is in the ballpark and he only has one and he's gonna play games trying to make you spend more.
