Ordering and down payment question...

Ok, this might be a stupid question, because I have never bought a car new before, but I have read that when you order your Z, you can hold it with 250 down.

Prior to this, do you sign any paperwork and negotiate the price of the vehicle before the order is placed along with financing/initial down payment etc? Or is this not done until after your car arrives?

Reason for me asking is that I want to buy a Z by June/July, and I want to know if I would have to have all this negotiated and done by april/may, or can I order the car then, and keep saving up to pad my initial down payment until June/July, when the car arrives before signing all paperwork and really negotiating the price? I just dont want to do it all in june, only to hear that i have to wait until august/september to get my car!

thanks in advance guys! great forum here!

I can only speak for my personal experience. When I went in to the dealer, in order to place an order for a specific model, color, and trim, I had to sign a purchase order, along with $1000 initial down payment. You negotiate the price and agree to buy ('remainder due at delivery') BEFORE they place an order. The dealer will not buy a $40k car for their lot without a firm contract.

The financing agreement, however, is part of that 'remainder' part, and is decided when the car comes in. In fact, I couldn't negotiate the final financing now, even if I wanted to. The loan agreement is only good for 30 days, so I will have to reapply for financing when the car is almost here.

Thanks! that helps a lot! I found a dealer willing to sell for invoice, plus TTL here in CA, so ill take a few days and mull over it and solicit other deals.

Thanks again! this forum is awesome!

Yep. Negotiate that sucker down as much as you can because that will be the final price. Also make note of any money your are putting as a deposit is getting deducted from the total amount.

Sneaky bastards tried to pull a fast on on me with my deposit, and with the options I requested. Get everything on paper keep a copy.

Please let me know if you get a good deal somewhere in Southern Cali. Your profile says you're from San Diego so I thought you had found a dealer somewhere near there. Boardwalk Nissan is just too far away from me.
