Is the wiring there? If not, does it act as a running light - always on when the lights are on? Easy to tap into the wires that are back there it there isn't already a pigtail there already.........

Hey everyone, I've been hearing some negative comments about Nissan's paint quality, especially the black paints. Some people were complaining that their paint peeled and was orange around the peel area in the 350Z.

I'm thinking about getting a Magnetic Black 370Z next week so I got a little worried. Are these rumors true?

shumby 03-04-2009 01:18 PM

no issues with my black G37s and to tell you the truth never heard of this before now

ADmaster71690 03-04-2009 01:27 PM

Excellent.

Also, I saw on a couple UK websites that the 370Z models will be getting a "scratch masking paint job."

Is something like that available on the American models? I'm pretty paranoid about scratches/dings and some of the roads here aren't amazing...

shumby 03-04-2009 01:36 PM

I have it onmy G not sure how well it works yet though

GT Motoring 03-05-2009 11:43 AM

Some of the Black Nissans that I have seen do have some orange peel look to their paints, but only along the bottom or in areas that chipping could occur.

I think they do it to hide scratches and prevent chips...

But its not noticeable unless you get very up close.

Questions concerning picture.
1. Did passenger airbag break window?
2. Driver side airbag didn't deploy? ( I remember seeing another crash pic where the driver side airbag didn't deploy either. The arguement was, if you didn't wear a seatbelt, it wouldn't deploy. Was there any truth in this?)

Just curious if anyone can shed some light.

nogoodname 03-09-2009 11:50 AM

^^ it really does look like it...eh...strange

Anatoray 03-09-2009 11:52 AM

Damn, seeing that makes my heart skip a beat considering i got the same color lol.

Jayp03 03-09-2009 02:10 PM

How is the touch up on this color.
I know that in some colors its easy to conceal and on others, it's pretty hard.
And is it just a plain solid black, or are there some grinded pearls into it, like some lexus's have (can't really tell from the pics : /).

Anatoray 03-09-2009 04:54 PM

It is a solid black finish. I haven;t had to touch up the paint job yet, but you can get small bottles of the actual paint CourtesyParts :: Magnetic Black (G41 color code) 1/2 oz. touch up paint bottle

The seat, and seat belt, have nothing to do with the air bag deployment.

The sensor(s)(some cars have one, some have two) in the front of the car. The sensor(s) evaluates the impact(micro seconds)and deploys the bag(s). The collision, does not have to be "head on", for air bag deployment!

StLRedrider 03-13-2009 10:12 PM

Oooooooooooooooooooooooh man, that sucks

Here's a close of the paint. It has a nice pearl to it.

Ok I must ask, I live in Texas (Houston) and like the black and the PG. The two things stopping me from getting the black are how hot it may get in the summer, thinking of getting black/base/sport so I will have black cloth seats. The other thing is the thought that the moment I leave my driveway it will not look as good, after I wash it.

I do plan on cleaning it once a week, not a full wax/detailing, but a quick clean, will this be enough?

Anatoray 03-19-2009 08:47 PM

That depends on how clean looking you want it to be. I've owned nothing but black cars, and can tell you if you want it to look clean while its on the move, once a week is more than enough. If you want it to look showroom clean, don't get black.

Black is hardest color to maintain, but damn does it look great when its clean!
i used to wash my car at least once a week in the summer, and just kept a microfiber cloth in my car to keep off any dust that settled. In NY, (I guess its pollen?) little tiny yellow specs used to land on my car during the summer, so a simple wipe with a microfiber was plenty to keep the car shinin'.
I'll tell ya, with TX's summers, black will probably kill you, lol. I mean black in NY is still bad enough, and the A/C takes much longer to cool the inside of your car.

Dr. Acula 04-22-2009 10:47 AM

after buying a black 370Z can I wax it right after or should I wait a while before the first wax?

Anatoray 04-26-2009 03:21 PM

New cars come with a paint protectant already applied, so you shouldn't have to wax for a bit. It won't hurt it if you do, but it also won't make a difference.
