Oil Temperature Video

This isn't a hate video... I love my NISMO!!! I'm just concerned about these quick rising oil temps.

If you are going to push the car you'll see temps higher than 220*F.

During my morning commutes (roughly 45 minutes) I get up to 215-225*F. This is normal.

Oil temps are only an issue with these cars if you plan on tracking. Do a search on the subject -- this has been discussed and put to bed many times here.

good vid, however, you keep the car constant above 4k, I wouldnt say thats normal daily driving by any stretch. Id say avg shift point is between 2500-3k, temps shouldnt exceed 220 if its driven normally.

SB350z 08-25-2009 06:30 PM

1st you kept the car @ 4000 RPM at 3rd gear. Then you downshifted to 2nd gear and still kept at 4000 RPM . umm yeah... that's how the normal people drive

Very true!

Vectorsumio 08-25-2009 06:35 PM

LOL, it's not? /shy

Normal people cruise at ~2k, if that. :)

Guess I'm still used to driving my S2000. :p

Yeah, id say 2k should be the max when cruising. S2K's are some high revving mofos, but I still wouldnt recommend cruising at 4k.

4000 rpm is really high to me when cruising.. shyuut, thats gas jugging, even if im cruising at 35 mph im in 6th gear trying to save gas lol

tbonesteak 08-25-2009 09:10 PM

Sorry to ruin your parade, but you ain't saving any gas by shifting to 6th at 35mph. There is a time for everything. Bogging your engine not only isn't too good for the motor but it has to struggle at that low of revs and will hurt mpg. It's all about efficiency, not being in the tallest gear at any speed.

tbonesteak 08-25-2009 09:15 PM

OP, i just came from an s2k as well. Different beast. You have to get used to feeling comfy with 1.5k revs cruising on 4th for there will still be enough torque to pull away. The way you were driving on the vid is not how you cruise in this car. I'm cruising at 2-2.5k and never go above 220 nomatter how long i sit in socal heat soaked traffic.

Yep. The GT-R has a screen that shows your efficiency in your respective gear. Too low or too high a gear will equally kill your MPG. And for the record, highway driving in the 6MT in 6th gear can routinely be in the 3k RPM range.

tbonesteak 08-26-2009 01:15 AM

^^yeah i find myself cruising at 80+mph (~3k or higher revs) without even knowing because this car picks up speed so fast.

The video shows that some aggressive driving will make the oil temp start to rise. Don't most of us already know that?
