That sounds really good. If power gains are close to Stillen #'s, I would consider this catback.

Boost_lee 05-10-2009 04:02 AM

that sounds great! If you find any info on pricing, please post

Minicobra1 05-10-2009 12:00 PM

Sounds good, is that with the stock cats?

Don't know as I found it on YouTube before AK did! ;)

They are close to us though (Ontario)...maybe a meet in the future?

Diversion 05-10-2009 12:10 PM

That does sound fantastic.. And i'm afraid better sounding usually equals more restriction in the pipes.. Here's to hoping that's not the case.

Zerafian 05-11-2009 09:36 AM

not a bit of rasp...sounds great

2theextreme 05-11-2009 09:49 AM

Could this be it?

Boombop Performance Products

semtex 05-11-2009 10:28 AM

I don't think I could ever buy something from a manufacturer called Boombop, because that godawful Mmmbop song from Hanson automatically starts playing in my head. Someone please make it STOP!!!!!!

small mufflers, and no resonators..

this sucker is going to be loud with hi flow cats! if it retains the same sound pitch/quality with HFC's, my stillen will be for sale. id like something a bit louder, without the stink/rasp of test pipes...

RCZ 06-30-2009 03:05 PM

wonder if it will rasp like everything else once you replace the cats..

im happy with how the stillen sounds, except from 2k-2.5k..... i get alot of compliments on it, but i DO wish it was a bit cleaner, and louder...

Namir 06-30-2009 08:30 PM

It seems like the exhaust hangs pretty low (Video 1 drive away)
It looks like the cats but they stick out (down) significantly. Hopefully that can be adjusted.

Ben@Boombop 07-01-2009 12:08 AM

Wow AK370Z, that was quick! You found our videos an hour after we posted it last night.

The exciting news is that our exhaust is going into production this week, we're hoping to get the first production unit finished in 2-3 weeks with the rest of the production units ready for sale in about 4-5 weeks. We'll get our forum sponsor account tomorrow to make an introductory post with the full details on the exhaust. Anyone local to the IE(Ontario), feel free to stop by anytime during business hours to check out the prototype exhaust in person. My brother daily drives the car and will be glad to show off the exhaust!

Surprisingly, the exhaust is very quiet at idle. On startup you hear the initial roar, but it settles down...that is until you take off! As you can hear on the videos, the exhaust sounds very smooth up and down the RPM band. We wanted a more aggressive exhaust note under acceleration, but still be able to putt around stealthly if we chose to.

Just measured the exhaust, it's 4.5" off the ground. It seems like it does hang about 1" lower than the stock exhaust because of the thicker tubing, but over the course of 5k miles we haven't bumped into anything yet. The exhaust curves down right there to clear the rear bars. I'd be more worried about scratching the front lip than anything.

Stay tuned to the intake/exhaust section for our introductory post tomorrow!

Thanks,
-Ben

The exhaust sounds great! Does the prototype have high flow cats? I'm not too far from Ontario, so I just might drive out there to hear this myself.

The prototype is running the stock cats. It's a catback exhaust so we haven't touched the headers or cats yet. Definitely come on by if you get a chance, we're usually around Monday-Friday 10AM-6PM. Sometimes we take off early for the weekend/dyno sessions/tuning, so if in doubt give us a call or email!

Thanks,
-Ben

Ben, glad to see you are a sponsor of the370z.com!

Personally, I like the sound of this exhaust very much. The only thing missing are dyno tests. Do you plan on getting any soon?

Also, since there are no resonators, how is the drone?

import111 07-01-2009 08:35 AM

There is a link to dyno graph on their website. I want to know how much this exhaust weighs.

m4a1mustang 07-01-2009 09:15 AM

The sound is great... I definitely hope we can get some dyno results soon and more vids and what not... especially with HFCs.

m4a1mustang 07-01-2009 09:42 AM

So roughly a 14 rwhp gain.

semtex 07-01-2009 09:54 AM

Can someone refresh my memory on Air/Fuel on these graphs? The higher the number, the leaner? Or the richer?

Higher = leaner

Lower = richer

If I remember right, I think 14.7:1 is the "perfect" air/fuel ratio (for gasoline engines)...and anything less is considered rich and anything above it is considered lean.

Edit: Damn, someone beat me :)

At an 80MPH cruise in 6th you won't hear the exhaust. If you punch it or downshift you'll definitely hear the exhaust, but I would say that there is no drone. I actually have some videos taken inside the car on the highway, I'll have to dig them up. The 370Z doesn't have the quietest interior so in the video you mostly just hear the wind when on the highway.

I don't recall the exact weight, but I remember it was about 4lbs. lighter than stock when we last weighed it. There are a few minor modifications we're doing for the production units to make them better so we've been waiting for the actual production unit to get an accurate weight. We're hoping to make the production units even lighter.

m4a1mustang 07-01-2009 10:55 AM

Sounds promising. Can you explain the shops name?

I was hoping to plead the 5th, but let's set the records straight..."Boombop" is a play on an old jam by Shaggy called "Boombastic", no relation whatsoever to Hansons. At the time, my brother and I were just selling random stuff on eBay, but the name stuck and it was different so we went with it for our company name.

"The Boombop Shop" just has a nice ring to it  In any case, hopefully we'll have a detailed post on the entire exhaust posted up later today. Keep the questions coming!

Thanks,
-Ben

import111 07-01-2009 12:17 PM

Thanks for the quick answers. This exhaust is on the top of my list at the moment.
