^ You're right in that it's a 350 badge. It's on my wife's 350. I'm fine with the 370 badge on my car for now. ;]

That being said, I don't know where you're buying "genuine" parts from. All the normal websites I'm going to seem to be selling the same thing. The one the thread starter ordered is from the same exact place. Not sure what you're seeing in the pic that says "cheap aftermarket" other than the obvious damage, but your eyes must be better calibrated than mine.

theDreamer 05-10-2009 08:35 PM

I ordered mine from the same place, they currently have them on back order so I still have not gotten it. Wondering if it is wise to cancel my order, or at last remove it from my order (have some floor mats also coming).

I will email them and link this thread and see if they can comment on it.

I don't know about "eyes must be better calibrated" but I did work 40+ years in the "Quality" department of Caterpillar Tractor Co. The comment about a "cheap aftermarket" is because of it's apparent condition. Usually OEM stuff lasts longer. I purchased a "FairLady" for my 03 350 the first year I had the car from "Courtesy Parts" and it looked as good as the day installed it some almost 6 years later when I traded it in for my new 370.

Again just my :twocents:

Just making sure everyone knows this isn't "cheap aftermarket" as you put it. I didn't buy it from a guy selling Z stuff out of his van, I got it from the same place everyone else buys it from.

Just got an email back,

We’ve never seen the emblems fade like that. These emblems are genuine Nissan parts and the quality is very good. We’ve been offering these since 2003, when the first 350Z came out and this is the first I’ve seen that did this. I would be more inclined to think that some sort of chemical used, maybe when washing the car, caused this to happen.

Not saying you did anything wrong frost, but this is what they stated.

Diversion 05-11-2009 02:18 PM

Hmm, I'm going to e-mail the Z store to see if the emblem is for thr 370Z model and not the 350Z.. I'm sure they are slightly different to accomodate the different angle of the rear end?

Diversion 05-11-2009 02:24 PM

On a side note: ??????Z ???????? | WEB STORE FAIRLADY Z | ?????

Thought it was interesting that in Japan they are probably making a killing selling the USA badges.. Pricing looks to be about $45 for a "370Z" badge so we're all paying about the same amount.

Yeah, my neighbor told me washing the car in acid and bleach wasn't a good idea, I just wouldn't listen to him :roflpuke2:
On a serious note, I wash the car every other week with a name brand soap in soft water. Before I was going to let it slide, but this response from them has me a little upset.

Diversion 05-11-2009 08:42 PM

I would demand an exchange, Frost and see if they stand for their company.

frost 05-11-2009 08:44 PM

^ The wife just Emailed them. So I'll keep you updated on how they handle the situation.

Diversion 05-26-2009 05:23 PM

I just received my FairladyZ badge in the mail today... it does indeed come in Nissan OEM packaging.. I cross referenced the item number (i'm at work right now, no pics/info) on the web for a brief moment while I was still at home and the badge is INDEED for a 370Z (Z34) and it is NOT the FairladyZ badge from the 350 (Z33).

That being said, this is good news.. it's an OEM badge straight off the JDM Fairlady for those worried about the emblem not being OEM or from the 350Z variant.

I'll take pictures of the packaging in a bit.

Jay

I've done my share of "modifying aesthetically" on other cars...so w/ the lil experience i would say no, just because now i just love clean stock car.

A few quick questions:
~How did you remove the 370Z?
~Pressure when applying the new letters? Hold your hand on top for any time with X amount of pressure?

The Weapon 05-28-2009 04:44 PM

Hmm.. I like it but wouldn't it be cheaper to buy the Fairlady Z for $26 with the old Z logo and reuse the Z that's currently on with the 370 Z?

Does anyone know if the Z size is different?

this is what you should do.

buy some fishing line and "turtle wax bug and tar remover"......do not get goo gone, it's a total waste of time.

spray on the turtle wax all over the emblem....it's foamy stuff, so it sticks well.....let it sit for a few mins...then use the fishing and slice the emblem off.

then spray more turtle and remove the rest of the adhesive...then wax with anything you like.

there might be a shadow left of the emblem, but once you detail the car, it will disappear.

hope this helps, it's what i did

Honestly my 370Z lettering was easy enough to just grab from the tops and bottoms of the lettering and pry upwards and downwards with my bare fingers! They just peeled off like that.. I then used Goo Gone (adhesive remover) to get rid of the remaining adhesive from the paint. Then I took regular Isopropyl rubbing alcohol and cleaned the surface very well.. But don't rub too hard while cleaning. Using the rubbing alcohol ensures the new adhesive on the new emblem will stick strongly.

As I was putting each lettering on, you just apply firm pressure on each letter.. I kind of flexed my bumper in certain places from the pressure but no harm done. I figure a few hot days will harden up the adhesive and they will as good as stock again.

As of right now, they are pretty pliable still.. someone could easily rip them off the car.. Hopefully they firm up soon.

The are "essentially" the same but the Z on the 350 version has the 3 dots in the center of the Z (to match the other Z emblems on the 350). Where as the 370Z Fairlady version has a clean, solid Z without the 3 dots.

370Z version just flows better with the car.. Do it the right way for a true effect atleast.

After a day of looking at it and being less hungover I think it looks great now. I think the fact my head was still a little in pain and I was not 100% thinking straight I thought things were off. Looking at the pictures and it in person I see nothing wrong, plus I placed the template on it and it fit perfectly without me having to adjust anything so it works great.

frost 05-30-2009 10:07 PM

Hey, I even installed it in the same manner when I posted so that was the fun part. Sitting and removing the 370Z was making me so inpatient I almost had to stop and come back later.

nogoodname 05-30-2009 10:32 PM

you should have done that and take a pic of the adhesive and said it's a blacked out 370z emblem...........lol

That would have been great, I am sure someone would have asked where I got it. "One of a kind, special order from Nissan HQ direct for me personally." :p

frost 05-30-2009 10:34 PM

I'd like black logos.
