Magnetic Black 370Z Photoshoot in NYC

I guess a bit of background before the pictures (just scroll past this sh*t if you don't care haha): One of my friends is a photographer and was really interested in shooting my car after I gave him a ride once, and since I was excited to get some cool shots of the ride, I was more than happy to oblige.

A bit of a warning: he mostly shoots pretty model girls of the gaunt variety - you know, the type who calls a lettuce leaf too much carbs or whatnot, so he's not well versed with shooting a car, especially not a black one. This is actually the first half of a shoot session, so the second half should be much better (or at least according to him, though I am responsible for some of the poorer shots seen this time around, haha).

I scouted out the locations with him about two weeks prior, and we settled on the DUMBO area of New York City. It's one of those areas that's really cool to hang out in, though you do have to tolerate the influx of hipsters. The second half of the shoot will encompass some of the other areas we scouted.

I know some of them seem redundant (took over 200 some odd photos; I only posted a choice few for now), but I couldn't decide which angle to show, so I guess I'll leave you, the viewer, to decide. I'm pretty drugged up on Nyquil right now, so I don't really feel like editing my plates out of every picture; regardless, I hope you enjoy!

Some of the best pictures I've seen.

The long exposure shots turned out great, If he just had a good portable light or two, it would go a long way as far as fill flash goes. I use Mobilite, but there are alot of good ones.

Also, These remind me of GTA4! They really did do a great job of capturing NYC on that game, huh?

Thanks, AK! I like that pic, too; funny story about the pictures taken in that area - when we scouted that location, it was all wide open, and they were prepping for construction of the adjacent park. When we came back two weeks later, everything was closed off under the bridge area because they were about to start construction. Luckily two security guard guys rolled by (I think they originally wanted to know what we were up to), and I was able to persuade them (via a handful of crumped Washingtons and Lincolns) to let us into the gated area to take some pics under the Brooklyn Bridge

Yeah man, these are awesome pictures. If he want to do a shoot with me and my friends car, that would be pretty cool  . I'm waiting for my friend to get his E92 m3 (it's on the ship from Germany). Once he gets his, I want to do a photoshoot. His E92 m3, 135i, 335i coupe and my 370Z (maybe we can add your car to the mix).

BTW, your screen name reminds me of this video :bowrofl:

Sweet pictures, next time get some models in there.

Jeffblue 06-28-2010 09:47 AM

The long exposure shots were some of the more difficult shots because of the poor lighting in the area; more portable lights are on the checklist for the next session

I agree - GTA4 did a very nice rendition of NYC, but I also feel like its too straight-forward in trying to be nitty gritty or dirty, if that makes sense. The city invokes many sentiments; it can be amazing and beautiful with its myriad of bars, lights and spectacles, which leave you wanting more, until you step in a pile of trash or someone's vomit from last night haha.

My friend really enjoyed shooting the car, so I'm sure he wouldn't mind shooting other cars (especially the M3 - sex).
Do you have any locations in mind? One of the primary goals of this shoot was to avoid just throwing the car in a location and then taking pictures, which is pretty standard fare. The car(s) should interact with the environment in a way that makes the viewer see or think about things (whatever they may be) in a different light; our cars are interesting enough by themselves, the problem is finding an environment that matches it ;)

Thanks Jeff! The plate is a New York State specialty plate - War on Terror Veteran. Hopefully I can keep it forever as the newer NY plates are hideous (though I might need a replacement because the front one is slightly bent as I park on the streets - I think its noticeable in some pictures).

oh cool. Actually the new plates look good on a black Z IMO, i think they look better on my car than the old plates would have. I just pretend the Navy Blue is black and that the orange matches my seats! (even though neither of those is true)

Whattttt!!! You're the first person who likes the new plate design. I have the new style plates on my DD Civic, but that car is also a weird gray color so I guess it really emphasizes the mismatching colors of the plate. I can kinda see how it might work on a black car, especially at night. But, if you ever feel like getting back into the blue and white style, I think they still make custom plates in that scheme; plus you have a plethora of plate choices since the state is so broke - you've got everything from "I <3 NY AGRICULTURE" (wtf?) to "LOVE THE LIBRARY" (yay?).

Way cool! thanks for sharing!

Other than the little park by Verezanno Bridge, this is the only other place everyone does their photoshoot at (Brooklyn people that is).

Invite for next photoshoot though please! Black and White yo!

Some really gorgeous pictures man, the car looks great and I agree it really did interact well with the environment. + rep
