Forged Performance Time Attack 370Z: Help us design our graphics scheme!

We are looking for some ideas for a graphics layout for the race 370Z. We have bounced many ideas off our heads, but I would love to see if any talented Photoshop people can come up with a catchy design for the racecar. It would be nice to integrate the Forged Performance colors if possible, but that is not required. Any takers? If we use your design you will recieve a check from Forged Performance for $250!

Have you guys looked at doing a vinyl wrap designed by a professional designer? Asking for spec work just is a little unprofessional IMO. Sort of like me asking you guys to build a motor for me for free but I'll give you a little money if I decide to go with it.

You've got it wrong... it's community involvement.

Racing teams, especially in NASCAR, do this all the time... They have contests where fans submit paint schemes and the best one gets their scheme on the car, a trip to the race it's run at, etc.

This is pretty much the same -- the best scheme, if used, will have their design on Forged's race car and get $250. :hello:

nogoodname 02-06-2010 12:59 PM

Would be a lot easier if you have high res shots available.

m4a1mustang 02-06-2010 01:03 PM

Yes, please post the hi res shots and give us a deadline for when you need all submissions in and when you will make your decision.

Also, give us some specs on where you want the number placement, what company logos you want on the car, etc.

Yeah, it's called spec work. No offense but $250 isn't much to design a car scheme. Just because NASCRAP does it doesn't make it ok. I'd rather see them just hire someone in the community to design it for maybe parts or some sort of equal valued compensation. Honestly this type of stuff happens a lot and a lot of people think nothing of it but to professional designers it's a huge slap in the face. I'm sure someone will do that and that's fine but it doesn't hurt to try and educate people about it.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I guess I'd have to be in graphic design to get upset about this -- but if I was confident that my work was that much better than some random Joe's I probably wouldn't even give a sh1t. I don't see how "professional design" is being devalued. If they are that much better, Forged would have already hired someone.

FuszNissan 02-06-2010 01:18 PM

Can't wait to see what people come up with.

If you glance over that link I provided it explains all the reasons why it upsets designers. (Like myself) I don't even have time to do something like this with the work I have right now anyway so I'm not trying to get work for myself through my rants. Like I said, most people don't think anything of it so it is a constant battle. I wish Forged the best of luck with getting some good work on their race car because projects like that can be a lot of fun. I just don't like the spec work approach to it.

travisjb 02-06-2010 01:27 PM

nothing wrong with a free market - if people want to contribute here they can right? if i had the pchop skills, would jump in and help...

quick input... suggest keeping it fairly simple... the RJN race car looked so so... i like that they were trying to set off the rear of the car somehow

http://www.nissan-dakar.com/ENN/PRES...S/090529_1.jpg

simple graphic on new 3.8 gt3 rs builds up front to rear and highlights fat rear fenders and flat side panels

http://www.niot.net/blog-images/19_A...911-gt3-rs.jpg

and not sure but maybe you can get some ideas off what folks have done with virtual custom graphics on forza 2 or NFSS???

RCZ 02-06-2010 02:11 PM

Id love to give it a shot, could you provide us with some logos etc?

Decall design on a computer game... Gotta love it!
(just hope there aren't any copyright claims on it)

As for the spec work request. I agree this doesn't help established designers.
But if someone were to just start off and needed to build a portfolio, this is a great chance to get their work "published"

i can relate to this.... same thing happens in the computer industry. once you tell people that you work on computers, 95% of the time the next question is "hey, i got this problem with my computer....." :shakes head:

This happens with most every service industry.

Free labor markets = good... I'm so tempted to make the analogy to unionized labor, but I can only imagine where that would go... back on topic :icon17:

and do you have to resolve their issue for free? or at all? no. my canned answer is "i can fix that for you for X amount." if they balk the next response is "sucks to be you."

as far as spec work goes, who cares if the established graphic artists aren't supported? you don't have to be involved...go handle the paying clients you already have.

:iagree:

So let's get some high res pictures, I would say one side profile and a front "iso view"

Then a list of sponsors you want to include on the car would be handy.
Any race number requirements for the class you're planning on entering (if there is something like that)

And some info on limitations, are you looking for one color vinyl's or are you getting vinyl's printed?

Anything else I'm missing guys (and girls)?

Working on it guys, but the 370Z is on the rack as we are making some adjustments to the front suspension. As soon as I have the car on the ground, and leveled again I will take some more high res pics. I wish this Z was the only project we were working on, but we have 30 other cars here that need some attention as well. :p

OK, here are the high res pics. I don't want to IMG link them here or else it will overtake your screens. :)

That's more like it!

Do you happen to have the money shot as well.
I called it "iso view', but probably doesn't mean a lot to others.
What I meant is the standard angle that gives a nice overview (see below).

This way you could get your entries in an overview like this:
