This happened to me as well after less than a year on my Z. Took it to the dealership, they told me nothing was wrong with it. Had a catastrophic clutch failure about a week later. They replaced it under warranty with no complaints immediately.

This has happened to me in 3rd gear from time to time.

Same here, it seems to only happen to me after driving the car for a long time (30+ mins at least)

I only have 650miles on it, it doesn't consistently happen...so I don't know if this is something I need to worry about.

Mine did this and progressively got worse but in 5th gear. Took it in to the dealer and they deemed it a "complete transmission failure" and replaced the entire thing. No issues now.

Having this issue too as of friday. Seems to grind under hard acceleration.

chuckd05 07-20-2011 12:37 AM

hard acceleration into 6th ? lol, not saying its not possible but what do you mean?

Sorry if I accelerate first, second slow into third it'll grind fourth. If I go 1,2,3,4 to 6 it'll grind.

Exactly what my car does. 3rd or 4th to 6th results in a grind every time. I realize some people might say, "well, just don't skip gears", but this is neither normal nor acceptable. The order of gear selection is irrelevant. I've driven far cheaper cars and skipped gears with nary an issue.

LafitteZ 07-23-2011 10:05 AM

well fellas bring it to nissan they had to replace my transmission for that. mine grinded going from 1st to 2nd and some are doing it from 3rd to 4th so im guessing yalls are doing it that way. Just hope it isnt the stupid syncros because nissan is gonna give you hell to fix it.

LafitteZ 07-23-2011 10:07 AM

going pick up mine today for that same ********.

Ron 07-23-2011 02:45 PM

Mine grinds sometimes from 1st to 2nd at high rpm's only. 5th to 6th is fine. I haven't taken it to the dealer yet.

LafitteZ 07-24-2011 10:18 AM

yea thats exactly how mine was ron and just a lil something extra. theyll install a high performance clutch and flywheel for real cheap after they pull the tranny off.

Ron 07-24-2011 10:25 AM

So you just explained what the issue was and dropped the car off? Did you have to go for a test drive with a tech so that he could replicate it or something like that? I think I will be taking it this week.

LafitteZ 07-25-2011 08:09 AM

Yea just bring it and take a ride with a mechanic and hope to god he's not a **** head. My guy is a real good guy but I hear horror stories about some places.

Rui Z 08-04-2011 12:36 PM

Do you think the new transmissions that Nissan replaces the defective ones with will have better synchros to prevent this issue from repeating itself? If that's the case I want my transmission to start grinding now while it's under warranty. This makes me not want to keep my car once my drivetrain warranty is up at 5yr/60,000 miles. Anyone feel the same way?
