Car and Driver: We're Ranked DEAD last

Anybody see the "side article" in the Lightning Lap edition of Car and Driver this year?

There was a listing of sports cars and their "volumetric efficiency".

They measured = Width x Length / Cabin Space

We came out to like 0.09 efficient, which i'm okay with. :rofl2:

Anybody have a link to that chart ?

Thanks all,
~ Sean

ohohoh123456 12-16-2014 12:14 PM

was taking my girl to airport this morning, she's going on a 10 days vacation. As much as I was surprised how much stuff she needed for the 10 days, I was only able to find 1 way to fit it in the trunk w/ part of the case on the crossbar... So yeah I feel ya!

Masterbeatty 12-16-2014 12:17 PM

If I was looking for a efficient car I would of bought a phucking prius. That is a dumb metric for a SPORTS car!

Is this a sports car- Y
Does it corner well-Y
Enough room to put a helmet on- Y
Does it ride like a merc- N
Does it scare women a children- Y
Is it gas efficient- N

Alright, all that other crap C&D usually test's for doesn't matter.

wanker 12-16-2014 12:21 PM

"Volumetric efficiency?"

Not a flying f$%* was given by any.

RicerX 12-16-2014 12:26 PM

I'm the only one that cross-shopped a Raptor and a Z apparently. Thanks, Car and Driver! If it weren't for your SCIENCE I may never have made my purchasing decision.

I eagerly anticipate their statistics in next month's magazine: Coefficient of Drag and Jeep Wranglers.

:iagree: But for me i found my Z gas efficient counting that is a V6... my Z is my DD car and i found that i save more gas in this car that in my previous DD car that was a 2013 Scion TC, not for much but i save a little more gas on my Z if im not woot every time that i push the gas :bowrofl::bowrofl:

fixed the order =P

but seriously... volumetric efficiency? shouldn't we be a higher efficiency ratio compared to lets say... a mustang? less space = less dead weight = higher efficiency... then again it depens what they define it as.

( Click to show/hide )
i was running under 13/100 prior to intake installation

kenchan 12-16-2014 01:10 PM

Lol,it's funny you say that. I was actually looking at raptors as well before getting the z. Also looked into the g37s. Raptors look great and seem to have good reviews, but unfortunately reflect in there price as well!

osbornsm 12-16-2014 01:45 PM

I never said i "cared" about the volumetric efficiency of the 370z. I just found it amusing that we're last, including supercars and the like.

...Man, the match hit the gasoline quick on this one.

This sounds like something Consumer Reports would publish. I remember reading that the corvette lost points because it's loud.

Excellent! I changed my only quibble with your list from "N" to the bolded.

DLSTR 12-16-2014 02:49 PM

I guess too many 'Mericans' were hoping the 370Z was an SUV. Sportscar by default means efficient use of space, or less space inherent vs Wal-Mart carrying capacity.

axmea? 12-16-2014 03:31 PM

The only thing I lug around my trunk at all times: a pair of low profile ramps.

Trunk...? What is this that you speak of? :icon14:

Jimbo370 12-16-2014 05:00 PM

Do the guys who track their car take the spare out? Does that change the wt ratio front to back?

Magazines write to favor certain cars, so readers actually buy them, tipically American cars. If you notice every car out there is "best in its class" yet the car is actually a p.o.s.

I don't understand the meaningfulness of the metric.

VE is an engine performance related value -- not relevant to stowing golf clubs.

Based on their concept of VE, a chest of drawers would be the ideal car. Somebody at C&D had too much time on their hands...

Duc_Z09 12-16-2014 10:06 PM

Yawn. Least amount of cargo capacity? That means we win, right? I mean, when I bought a 350hp RWD coupe how many kids' soccer bags fit in the back was somewhere near the bottom of my priorities.

1 Attachment(s)
Yeah.... I don't know what the fcuk they're talking about.... :gtfo2:

Attachment 98196

For anyone who's curious:
2 stock 19in rears
3ton jack
4 jack stands
torque wrench
impact wrench
bunch of other miscellaneous tools
2 helmets (they take up more room than you'd think)
24 case of water
and was still able to tetris my girlfriend in there at the end.

We do just fine.

Dcocci 12-16-2014 11:14 PM

Honestly I like how I have no space. None of my friends bother me for rides or for me to move any of their ****. I have room for myself and a date and that's good enough.

Found my elf on the shelf and he is pissed. "Enough" he says.

I happen to agree. Total waste of time if you read these articles. And what do they say about the space in a 4C, a 4S, a TT, the list goes on. Total silliness.

jeritol 12-17-2014 03:25 AM

Do you mean Corvette and Driver? Chevy once announced the Corvette was design to hold golf clubs for the wussies who play golf. My 370z holds my tennis racquets just fine for those of us who actually play a sport and move and sweat when they play. :rofl2:
Did you see the Lightning Lap issue where they admitted they blew up 2 Corvettes?

carlitos_370z 12-17-2014 05:56 AM

i think they talk a lot of sh!t man.... i love my Z and thats what matter... if I want space im going to buy a pick up or a damn Toyota Sienna...
