rant on

How many GD times do you need to hear that the MB engine is being built by Nissan technicians in a ******* plant down here in TN? Do any of you MB haters even come out of your caves to educate yourselves on alliances? You really want to piss and moan about brands? How about Nissan is nothing more than a Renault?

rant off/

I still like the rumor that the next-gen is getting a mass produced version of the current R35 powerplant.

Until now I think the Z has its own class, they compare it usually with Cayman, Audi TT, BMW Z4 and SLK but the price range differentiate it from the others. Here in Qatar, they compare it to Camaro, Mustang and Challenger which they have a similar price tag with less performance (at least in straight line and this is why its not popular here). Maybe they want to have some share from competitors and this is why they are making it smaller. Personally, I hope they target Camaro and Mustang with nearly the same acceleration figures but superior to them in track and I hope they keep NA 6 cylinder as option.

I don't oppose MB engines (I know some have different opinion) if Z went FI way, we will be left with very limited options for NA powered cars. Some people would prefer NA even though FI engines has a lot of advantages.

45% Renault actually... with some sort of emergency eject clause that lets Nissan buy back controlling shares in the event Nissan feels Renault is trying to take full command. I believe the deal happened when Nissan was in bankruptcy (or recovering from one), so that had a lot to do with it...

But yea... everything you say is true.

Honestly I can't see them cutting much weight. Unless they get rid of a lot of technology and overall shrink the car dimensions there really isn't much left to cut for weight. Not to mentions this new model will have to comply with new standards for safety which always adds weight.

Consider the FRS. Even with removal of the backseat it's still going to be at 2800lbs, just to keep numbers even. Add in a V6 and weight will easily approach the 3000lbs mark. Add in more luxury and technology that will have to be in the car to compete in todays market for a 30k+ car. Now your at least at 3100lbs. Add in updated safety standards, maybe 3200lbs now. That's best case scenario. Once you start talking about 19 inch or 20 inch wheels and large brakes/rotors, and all the other goodies the weight will go even higher. Add on turbos, intercoolers, and plumping and even more weight comes.

I think for a V6 sports car we won't see lower weight than where we are now. The only way the Z will weight less is with a smaller engine. Honestly I'm okay with 3200-3400lbs for a car as long as the suspension and power is there. I've driven/owned cars like the C7, Camaro 1LE, Various corvettes, Audi R8 V10, Porsche turbo, etc that all have weights equal to or higher than 3300lbs. They are were all a blast to drive. Yes, in a perfect world I'd love a sub 3000lbs car with 400hp but being realistic I'd rather they give us a decent engine while working on keeping the weight where it's at. Nothing short of 400hp is going to keep the Z alive since 400 is the new 300 in the car industry

There isn't as high amount of tensile steel, aluminum & carbon fiber they can use. There's a very doable 200 lbs that can be shed.

Nargrakhan 12-09-2014 12:33 PM

Doesn't the Stingray weigh around 3300 lbs? It's a V8 with 4 seats .

***EDIT***
Ignore 4 seat comment. Moment of being stupid. Editing so it doesn't start a chain of replies just pointing out the dumb comment.

brucelidat 12-09-2014 12:43 PM

Only way the Z loses significant weight is to go smaller like a s2k or change to lighterweight materials which could push costs up. Either way, the possibility of a factory turbo'ed 3.0 v6 has me anticipating official release news before deciding on SC or not for the z34.

No, the stingray does not have 4 seats. What corvette ever had 4 seats? Yes it's a V8. Engine vs. Engine there is about a 150lbs difference. Keep in mind too that the Vette uses a lot of light weight materials but it's also 53K+ in price as well. Sure, the Z in theory could be made lighter but at what cost to us the buyers.

Here is a spy photo of the next Z. It's power plant is very green. A set of pedals for your feet to pump.

Would have been cool if they developed a newer version of the twin turbo motor from the z32 to be put in the 370z.

Make it a 330 twin turbo machine... hell even a 300hp twin turbo machine. Doesn't matter, upgrade the turbos and a tune... :driving:

:iagree::iagree::iagree:

Just my 2 cents...
Why not just make a damn version of our VQ37 but 3.0 TT.... they can use the same GT-R TT setup... we know that our engines are strongest enough to hold 500hp on FI setup with out forged internals... im not saying that the Z have to come with 500hp  but at least 350hp i think it would be great.... I know is the same HP that the 370z Nismo have but hey... is a 3.0 FI... you put some intakes, exhaust, few psi more and a tune... trust me you are going to have some good numbers on your dyno sheet.... My opinion is that Nissan do not have to use and MB engine on the new Z... they have a lot of good engines like the SR20, RB25, RB26... for say some engines that they make... Anyway we are going to wait to see finally what Nissan are going to do with Z platform...

Merv 12-10-2014 08:29 AM

^ there are no cai's on a FI motor. But I get what your saying. :driving:

I think its odd that some of the renderings are based on the Maxima concept... I don't think the Z will have that terrible grill...

My guess is, very similar lines to current and a front fascia more similar to the latest Nismo. They are unlikely to deviate from the classic sports car coupe profile.

I'm expecting maybe 40-50 kg lighter (thanks mainly to even more aluminium), a turbo 4 option that makes much more torque and slightly less top end (resulting in a Z that is marginally quicker than current) with a N/A V6 option that is probably a re-tooled VQ, making 350+ bhp and at least as much torque as the four banger, for even better performance.

They could offer Nismo options for each that includes better aero/suspension, the snazzy badges, and slightly tweaked power -- just like they do now.

All of that is do-able with stuff from the Nissan parts bin, and it is in keeping with the rumors that are most frequently cited (and also least absurd).

If they are serious about the two engine options, then it will come down to price, which is easier to mod (in theory, the turboed motor, but who knows...), etc.

If they do the T4 vs. V6 option it is worth noting that this recipe didn't work so well for the Gen coupe...

Isn't the Tokyo Auto show in January? They better get the concept ready...

Can be more :iagree: with you bro!!! they have to stop releasing sh!ty rumors and they have to start to talk with the true... They have to make something that the people want... Im very sure that if Nissan read this thread they are going to know what to do with the next generation of the Z platform... Someone send a link of this thread to Nissan HQ hahaha!! i think we already make the next Z.... :bowrofl:

Firebase99 12-11-2014 09:09 AM

They already made up their minds by now. Like G37 preceded the the 370, so goes the Q50. V6 hybrid. Watch.

I agree with you but those engines you listed are too old for Nissan to use. With the current emission laws and they are getting even more strict, those motors could never hope to pass. I would really hope for a turbo 3.0. A lot could be done with that provided Nissan doesn't make it out of glass. Its crazy that Nissan is legendary for their turbocharged engines of old, however here we are 20 years later BEGGING them for a new one, and they can't oblige.

Its not THAT big of a deal for me because the odds of me getting the new Z are really slim. Im recently married and 26. Its time for kids and **** :shakes head: I would have to do an astronomical amount of :icon23: kissing to my wife for her to not immediately say "no" when I even say "Z" lol.

The engines that i mention in my post are examples ;) i forget to say that hahah i know are olds but those engines are proof that Nissan can make a new great engine to the new Z platform :)

BTW bro im in the same boat.... almost married and i think that are going to happen in the new year 2015 :eekdance: i have to finish my Z asap hahahhahaa!!!

Soo i dont think that a new Z for me its an option hahaa!!! i have to stay with my Z34 for now ;)

How dare anyone doubt the Eternal Wisdom of Nissan.™

The IDx died for the Z35 sins! Repent nonbelievers!

Give me 50 Hail Katayama and buy official NISMO products!

Totally agree with you on this. Whatever styling and engine it will be, is already done. I'm sure the prototype and showroom display are hidden in some factory bunker, waiting to be unveiled. Nissan is just building hype.

Now it's just the slow wait...

Well it has its benefits. You have a permanent slam piece. So depending on your wife, you could be guaranteed sex at almost any time. If you have the right wife, she will also get you awesome car parts for Christmas!! Mine is slightly upset with the car right now because I turbocharged it this year, then spent some money of fuel upgrades later and retuned. So I have spent more money than I would like to admit on it this year lol. And I may be dropping some more on it unexpectedly :ugh2: :shakes head:

She has a Genesis Coupe, so I MIGHT be able to convince her to buy one if she likes it enough lol.
