As others mention'd the Z is a jack of all, but not really 'stellar' at any one aspect.

I probably would have got a FRS/BRZ had it been , in my definition, a true coupe with 2 seats only.

Then again... RACE CAR Z! :happydance:

I'm glad I did pass on the BMW. My buddy has a modded one, dealing with some coolant leaking issues this past weekend.

I like the jack of all trades title for the Z. Not the fastest in any one area, but is fast enough and looks damn good doing it. :driving:

BMW's after 60k or 4 years seem to start melting down... literally. Coolant leaking/evaporating was one of the more 'minor' problems that we had with a 08 335xi.

The GT's have had great handling for the past several years. We aren't in the 90's anymore.

Initial reviews would agree. The new GT tested by C&D came in at 3800+ lbs. so much heavier thant the Z and a little lighter thant the Camaro SS. Skidpad numbers were smoked by the Camaro with the 1LE at 1.01g with the Mustang at 0.95. 0 to 60 were both at 4.5 seconds so quicker, with quarter miles at 12.9 (Camaro), 13.0 (Mustang)

C&D picked the Mustang with the GT Performance Package over the Camaro with the 1LE. The 1LE package is tight and bumpy, great on a track, back breaking on the road. Since Ford is going after the Europe market with this rendition of the Mustang, they wanted a more refined ride and they got it with some loss in roadholding. They still thought it was better bang for the buck.

The Z beats the Mustang on roadholding but loses on straight line speed. The Z is better looking in my book. With the sports package you get that syncro rev match and that is a big plus for me, the one who needs remedial training in how to heel and toe.

my two bits ... ok eight bits.

Don't see how one can compare the handeling lol, its a night and day difference.

Would a used S2000 with a supercharger added be....

-Cheaper than a used 370z (non-nismo)(s2000 plus SC plus tune etc.)
-Faster than a used 370z (non-nismo)
-More fun to drive than a used 370z (non-nismo)
-As reliable as a used 370z (non-nismo)

The 370z handles like crap, I know because I drove a 280z on three tires.

I'm not too fond of American cars myself, but the only cars i'd consider trading my 370z for (that are in a comparable price range)...would be the Mustang GT 5.0, the Camaro SS, and possibly the new STI. There is really nothing else in the 370z's price range thats gonna satisfy you more than the Z....unless you go used with higher mileage and/or earlier model year.

The one NEW car that I would say is on par with the Z for the SAME money is the Camaro 1LE. Owned both this and my 370z NISMO at the same time before I sold my Z for a Vette. The Camaro 1LE was by far the better car for the money. Yes it ways a ton but it honestly doesn't feel like it with the suspension it has. Also the Camaro 1LE has proven to be better and faster than the new 2015 Mustang with track pack around a track.

Aside from that in my opinion the only "better" car would be a used Vette, Porsche, M series, etc.

You know. I just did all this angst end of 2013 and beginning of 2014. I was thinking ... Ooooo that Camaro, Ooooo that Mustang ... Bought a Z.

What did it for me was one perk. Syncro rev match. Camaro and Mustang don't have it. The Corvette does for an additional 20 to 30 thousand depending on add ons. You get a manual trans and smooth quick shifts down and up.

honda odyesse. they go faster than my Z at every stop... especially when middle aged bald men are driving.

kenchan 11-25-2014 01:11 PM
