Service engine soon light??

My service engine soon light has been coming on this past couple of months. I took it to the dealer, and they charged me a hundred and something dollars to do a complete "test" :icon14:. Conclusion: guy said I either had bad gas or it may be due to my "aftermarket air filters", which were in there when I bought the car. The intake itself is oem, but i guess the box filter is aftermarket. I find it strange that the light is just coming on now when I've had the car since January. The tech said the car detected that it was running lean at one point, causing the light to come on.

I usually rest the light myself, but it comes back on after a few hundred miles..sometimes more. It is back on today and I am supposed to be back at the dealer Wednesday morning.

Any idea what is going on here? I've read several times on the forum our cars have a history of issues with the gas cap. I was thinking maybe replace that and see what happens

Go to the auto parts store and have them scan the code. Then we can help.

My guess is the filters are over oiled and the MAF sensor needs to be cleaned

This. Most will scan the code for free.

What chuck said or buy a scanner so you can read the codes yourself. They are a lot cheaper than paying a dealer $100.

Got the code read.. P2A00. Had something to do with the O2 sensor? I remember this is similar to what the dealer told me the first time I went. (I was out of town and stopped at a Chevy dealer. He cleared the code and told me if it comes back to get it checked out.) A couple of months of so later..light comes back on. Nissan then tells me the bad gas or something with the air filters.

Mine is throwing the SES light too. took it to the dealership that charged me $94 to say its having a hard time adjusting from summer gas to winter gas.... looks like i'll just change my coil packs and spark plugs myself!

Yeah, the dealer charged me like $118 to basically give me no answer at all. "Must be either bad gas or something with the air filter" they said.

With a check engine light, always check that your gas cap is screwed on tight.

Also any modifications to the exhaust system can cause issues.

OP, do a search for that code on here. You'll find a number of us have had this pain in the a$$ code show up. Some have found leaks in the intake system (post maf) or leaks in the exhaust system and once fixed, the problem went away.

Others of us however never found a single issue. Even checked my AFR and didn't see any issues. In my case I just disabled this code in my Uprev tune.

Yeah haha..I just ordered one this afternoon. That's something I should've had a loooong time ago . The dealer also didn't exactly advertisement that this "testing" was going to cost over a hundred dollars either. They told me there was nothing wrong with the car and I was under the impression I would pay nothing or close to it. I let the guy know I wasn't happy. He said if the light comes on again, they will re-run the test for free.

Yeah, I was searching around the forum earlier. I came to the conclusion of what you just told me :icon17:. I also read a few posts from you about this code haha. It's a PITA and there are many causes. I might just clear the light when it comes on (just ordered an OBD II today). If I go to the dealer this second time and they still come up with nothing, I'm going to ignore it.

As far as the Uprev tune..where would I have to go to get that done? Like a performance shop? I'm assuming the dealer probably doesn't do it. How much does it cost?
