Took her to the dyno today
well ladies and gents, decided to pop her cherry and get her up on the dyno for a few pulls. I was expecting somewhereabouts 270whp and about 235 ft/lbs, and strangely enough, thats right about how much I put down. I decided to do a good before and after dyno with every mod I add, Berk HFC's are pending purchase as we speak, and as soon as I get them I intend to dyno asap. Weird thing happened though, seems I made more power the hotter the engine became, strange. Also, seems as though he didnt take it to 7500rpms, probably could have made more power.
heres a pic of my sheet. Keep in mind, elevation is 4000 ft. ASL, was averaging about 90 degrees with a humidity of about 5%. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...6/DSCN0165.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...6/DSCN0145.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...6/DSCN0143.jpg Not bad, 268whp and 240 ft./lbs at 4k ft. Oh, heres a pic of me at the drags last sunday... guess the other car... http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...exandJames.jpg |

i 2nd that..i too live in El Paso and have the same experiences. we will never have a decent track
it definitely has an incline, i was rolling backward when I pulled up to the line. It gets real dusty here so its hard to grip also. I basically spun completely through 1st. Crazy part is, I beat a stock STI and a 08' Mustang GT by almost a half second each.
u should def kill GT's all day but surprised the STI wasnt closer. u went to the ones by the dump right?
in clint, yeah.
that sucks..i wish we could build a real legit one but that wont happen for awhile

Quarter Mile and 0-60 Calculator |
thanks yeah, i've been using that, however, I think that had the track had a good patch of laid rubber, and kept the staging area clean of rocks/pebbles/debris, I would have hooked up alot sooner, posted a better 60, and a way better time. When you walk out onto the strip, you can litterally kick rocks, thats how bad it is.

its actually a 280, stock engine with full bolt ons. At least thats what he said, he was almost a full second behind me, but not bad nonetheless. Ohh, and take a wild guess who he bought it from?
juarez!!!!
haha, nope, Randy Rodriguez himself. Google it.
That's one nice flat torque curve! Quick Q: what is the average drive train loss you guys are getting with the 370z manuals?
i'd say the avg. is around 18%
Put the Berk HFC's on today, reset the ECU, gonna drive her around for a few days, dyno to come on Friday and i'll post the results ASAP.
well I finally got to the dyno today after a week of driving with my new Berk HFC's, and I must say the gains are impressive, however I'm a bit pissed off because the tech there didnt set up the chart to read Torque numbers, that was what I was mainly concerned with. Keep in mind that I'm at exactly 4,080 ft. above sea level. Check page one for my base dyno. Anyone thats dyno'ed the Berks, what kind of TQ numbers should I expect, being that I didnt get any this time around...BTW, the first two runs were done in 3rd gear, which im guessing is why they read lower.
Dyno with Berk HFC's from 267whp to 283whp. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...6/DSCN0216.jpg |
I am wondering why dyno is always different with nissan's 332hp? And other company's car has always different dyno w/ their saying too?
it makes 332hp at the crank, the lower numbers are due to drivetrain loss, its an accurate measure of how much power you're putting to the ground.
seems like the first mod on these cars nets you the most gains... now do exhaust and i bet you dont see the full hp that FI claims, because they are always or seem to always be on otherwise stock cars.. or atleast i dont think so... this car just needs to be more free flowing obviously... Im not going to be able to do step by step dynos because test pipes and intakes are going in by tuesday and my car only has 500 miles . But hopefully you keep this habbit up for all of us !
yes sir, every mod I do to my car will have an after dyno so that everybody can see real gains, not just manufacturer claimed gains. G3's are next.
what saddens me is the torque. my dynojet reading was also 266ish ( I live in a warmer place/tropics) but the torque was just 220ish. it's too low. (mine is stock Nismo tho)
I still love it tho. |
suscribed!

with just hks bolt-ons (suction, bov, hi-power and turbo outlet) it was already pulling 290 whp and 260 tq (on the same dyno I used to rate my Z). With tuning it's now up to 310 whp and 270 tq. too bad I'm letting go of it cause I love driving my Z. I'll re-dyno my Z again in the future and see if my bolt-ons will make a difference. I doubt it will make 15 whp more tho and tuning seems to be more complicated than just ecuflash. |

thanks for the info, btw. |
for some odd reason, the test pipes are either even or slightly less in the power making department. There are a few guys with full bolt ons, headers, intake, exhaust, hfc's making about 320-335whp, depending on the dyno, up from 275-285, that's pretty damn good I'd say! I think the average CAI, HFC, CBE combination nets about 30whp, not bad.

My main concern is sound too and 5zigen (along with Stillen) is the best sounding IMO. I'm willing to sacrifice some whp for that awesome sound. So definitely, HKS exhaust is crossed out of the list even if it could give me more power. Also, I kinda want to keep my japanese car with jdm parts (no offense to american part makers, just a preference). besides, it's waaay easier and faster to ship japanese parts to where I'm from. Any info on the whp gains on japanese exhausts would be appreciated:) I'm rambling... I'll read more on the best full exhaust mods. thanks |

search and you shall find, I'm too lazy, if mind serves me correctly, they made 13whp and threw a CEL, which for warranty purposes, is a no/go! Easy way to find out? do a dyno page yourself!
Mine are already installed with no before and after dyno.. 150 miles or so later no CEL
I just searched and found nothing but conflicting information. You would have to see 5-10 dynos from people swapping test pipes to hfc's on the same car and same day to justify this. Ecu needs to learn changes so a simple task as a pedal reset and a hard test drive can make a difference. From my knowledge and experience I will say it's my opinion thAt test pipes are going to make more power. Just my .02 .. If someone has a link to specific threads that go over this help me out because I just found two. One that said tp make more and the other from ddm saying how they gained 20 whp from hfc. Berk test pipe dyno I can not find. The test pipe that tested at 12 whp was a different brand , granted it's the same design / idea but I can not fond enough information to warrant coming to the conclusion that hfc make more power than test pipes on the vq37hr. I know you made 16 with hfc but who's to say the berk test pipes wouldn't do the same or better with your reset and driving. The company who tested the test popes at 12 was a install/dyno right after test according to what they said . How did you reset your computer ? That alone could of freed up power. Coming from an 03 g35 if I did a pedal reset on the dyno there were times it would pull 4-5 more on the very next run.. So many things can mess with dyno results. I certiably felt am increase in power with the test pipes tho . |
