How did this turn into 7AT owners trying to justify why they own an auto Z? I thought this thread was about what mods have been done to your 7AT?

Geez, you guys sound like a bunch of Nismo owners that try to justify why they spent 10k extra on a body kit and wheels... Oops... well I sold my Nismo so I no longer fall into that category lol :happydance:

I don't think you understood, lol.

The 7AT is not a single clutch, or any clutch. It's a regular auto with a torque converter. But I do agree that they did a damn good job

Technically the 7at has two sets of AUTOMATED clutch packs. The low gear clutch pack(1-4) and high gear clutch pack (5-7). It's the high gear clutch pack that's weaker on the 7at and needs to be upgraded with a stronger clutch pack if you want your AT to stage 1 supercharge. Anything more and you need to change both low and high gear clutch packs.

Who sells these higher gear clutch packs? All I thought for supercharging was a tranny cooler and maybe a valvebody upgrade.

Is that why the change from 4th to 5th is slower than the rest?

My car is at 418whp/311tq and isn't slipping yet but I only get into 5th on the track twice and both are very short.

I'd have to research it now. GTM was the go to for this before.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhh... Either way, the 7AT has a torque converter.

Yes. You are running about 58rwhp more than the high gears can handle. I would change the high gear pack or burn more gas in fourth. If your gears are still slow after the high gear clutch pack? The final fix would be the valve body.

Eeeeeehhhhh... I didn't argue that. Just clarifying the clutch thing.

Where can I get the high gear clutch pack?

There are two businesses currently releasing 7AT upgrades, Fast Intentions and Level 10. I think that AAM is releasing a Z into the wild shortly that will have twin turbos and an upgraded 7AT from Level 10. Fast Intentions, on the other hand, has said they will release their 7AT upgrade "soon". I'm not really sure how "soon" is.

I've been kicking around the idea of using a GM transmission, but I'm waiting to see what comes of L10 and F.I. 7AT upgrade first.

JWillis72 09-25-2014 06:15 PM

Oh I thought you knew something new, waiting to hear how any of those do.

Grammar!

I agree with Mr. Frye. (Page 1) Never use "at" at the end of a sentence!

Kamzeelover 09-25-2014 07:50 PM

Is there any guys who track their car with 7at? Is it even easy like paddle shifting in 2nd gear to third In a turn.

JWillis72 09-25-2014 08:10 PM

I do and the 7 at rocks! I will be at Sebring next weekend. After you tune the line pressure it shifts great.

I'm here. I drive a lot on the expressways here and traffic is unavoidable. The 7at is a blessing but a lot of times I wish I would have picked a 6mt instead just to boost it. Love how fast the 7at shifts from 1-3

NYC roads are so bad, I'm considering buying another car as a daily.

Theres nothing wrong with the shifting. The Z needs some suspension correcting for turns.

i think the level10 tranny upgrade will do really well. well i'm hoping it does for all us 7AT guys sakes lol

FI i believe is doing their own minor upgrades at first like VB stuff, cooling stuff, etc.. but tony does like to go big so a full tranny upgrade being made in the back being top secret isnt off the table i would imagine lol

i'm just happy in light of the demise of GTM, who were basically the only source of 7AT upgrades, that we now have 1 possibly 2 companies facilitating our needs

gbrettin 09-26-2014 09:33 AM

I'm really looking forward to what both of the companies bring to the table. Personally, I'd like to keep my car all Nissan rather than look to alternative sources to accommodate the power.

to be honest i think your original idea of slapping the GM tranny in is awesome but would be more expensive to mate it up to a nissan motor. i mean i havent done all the research but just seems like it could be difficult and for i believe 3600-4000 you can have a level10 tranny built for 700+HP done and in the car no hassle.

The GM transmission idea was my answer to not spend 10,000 with GTM, or formerly known as GTM. I was able to find a company that could mate the VQ and 4l80.

I completely agree with you. I would much rather spend the 4g on the 7AT and have it handle 700+hp.

i think it is $4300 full build no core swap kinda deal. think it's $3200 with sending yours in buttttttttt the way i see it is for $1000 you get a full new tranny and keep as a back up.

i think that may be worth the extra $100 just to have a back up in a worst case scenario.
