Who Else is in the 5 Year Club?

5 years ago yesterday I bought my 370Z. I picked it up with 9 miles on it. Now, with around 32K on the clock, other than a few TSBs (seat, fuel guage, and steering lock), I haven’t had any real issues. It’s been a great all-around car, especially for a purpose built 2-seater…comfortable on long trips, cheap to maintain, plenty of room for cargo, good on gas without having to drive like an old lady, not much of a “me too” factor, looks great, and still fun to drive 5 years later. A lot has happened since I bought this car, including marriage and kids, so I consider myself very lucky to still have it.

JARblue 09-16-2014 10:37 AM

I would feel lucky, too, in your situation. Congrats

We've got a little over 3.5 years in ours but almost double your miles  :driving:

Asheth 09-16-2014 10:40 AM

5 year club owner! 47k miles only issue was CSC 5 years ago no issues since.

cigarclifford 09-16-2014 10:57 AM

2010 Nismo 4 years and two months, 68,000 daily driven miles. hope to
join the five year club soon................

:hello:

DIGItonium 09-16-2014 11:11 AM

Same here... 5 years 5 moths. The 350Z was with me for a little over 6 years. Hopefully things get better next year so I can put behind the notion of selling the car. Still hanging in there...

enkei2k 09-16-2014 11:15 AM

I'm in a different 5 year club...

The 5 years (60 months) to pay off the Z club!

:rofl2:

theDreamer 09-16-2014 11:16 AM

May of 09 is when I picked mine up with 5 miles.
Boosted at 19k miles and now sitting just over 82k.

Holy cow! that's great to hear you are getting such longevity from your block! Any major replacements/issues?

Daveski38 09-16-2014 11:39 AM

For this year model 4 years & 15 days and counting. Picked up with 7 miles w/about 27,000 now!

kenchan 09-16-2014 11:44 AM

Wow..that's some low mileage. No wonder why you have so many posts, you don't drive the car.

Had my transmission replaced around 20k miles for a bad syncro but that was bad prior to my SC, just had to wait a bit for a tranny to arrive.
Other than the other TSB not really, normal maintenance plus a little extra for the SC and that is about it.

90 ST 09-16-2014 01:13 PM

I've only had mine for 53 months...but I have the mileage of 14 years, does that count? lol

ocfoilist 09-16-2014 01:31 PM

Got mine in May of 2009 and is still running great. I've got around 70k on the odometer, had the CSC go out twice before I replaced it with an aftermarket part, had the steering lock issue but that's it. I'm very happy with the Stillen parts, it's fun on the track and I hope to keep it for years to come.

That sucks about your tranny, but also awesome that after fixed everything worked. Any CSC problems or clutch problems?

No CSC problems, clutch is starting to go possibly, going to do some transmission fluid change out to see and if it still sucks then time for an upgrade. I figured by 60k my clutch would have been gone but it seems to be holding for now. If I do replace, it will be everything, clutch/flywheel/csc/etc.

I was in the five year club. Bought an '09 in May of that year. Traded for a '10 roadster in Oct '10. Traded the '10 for a '14 Murano this past May. That got me into the club!

Nice don't get rid of her.

I still have my 1st, 28yr club with my 280.

DjSquall 09-16-2014 06:22 PM

I'm at 4.5 years so far. :D

Dwight Frye 09-16-2014 06:41 PM

Mine just turned 5 on 9/1. Bought new, I have about 44,500 miles now. No problems at all. I installed a pigtail to bypass the steering lock. Wore out the factory 19'' tires at 17,000 miles. Replaced with Michelin Pilot Super Sports, got about 27K out of them before they got noisy and the wear indicators were going to show in another couple thousand miles. Bought another set of the same tires. I have run it on Redline or Pennzoil Ultra with 5K OCI's and changed out the battery about a year ago as preventive maintenance and changed out the transmission and rear axle oil at the same time. I like it a lot but still find it uncomfortable for long freeway cruises due to the excessive noise level. I may end up having the whole thing Dynamatted soon, that would go a long way towards making long drives with a bunch of my favorite CD's a lot more enjoyable.

Its like marrying a gorgeous woman and making love once every 60 days.

watson853 09-17-2014 10:13 AM

This thread is awesome it's so nice to see the Z is living up to its reputation as a reliable sports car. My last car was a WRX and while I loved it I was always in fear of getting the dreaded cracked ringlands.

Now that we have established this (I know this thread didn’t establish anything), is there anything any of you would do differently if you could go back to the day you purchased it in terms of factory options, color, etc? I considered getting the Nismo rear spoiler but decided to hold off. I know that would have caused either remorse or a trickledown effect so I guess I’m happy with my decision to not get one. Otherwise, I’m still happy with the color, options (or lack thereof…just have the splash guards and floor mats).

Cmike2780 09-17-2014 11:20 AM

I hit the 5 year mark back in June and she's all mine :). Got around 56,000 miles on her.

Repairs & Maintenance so far:
-Oil Changes (Ester Oil x3 per year)
-Tires (3 sets of rear/2 sets of front)(2 flat tires)
-Brake pads (2 sets)
-Brake rotor (replaced front)
-Steering lock recall (under warranty)
-Replaced instrument cluster for fuel level issue))(under warranty)(still an issue)
-6-spd transmission replaced (gears grinding/syncros)(under warranty)
-Replaced stereo head unit
-Tire Pressure Monitor (replaced once by dealership...still problematic intermittently)

Issues so far:
-The Paint. It sucks! It's thin/soft and you have very little to work with when doing paint correction. I "burned" through a quarter sized spot after working on a small section that was etched/cracked by bird dropping that dried up using very little correction with a DA.

-Floor Mats: The OEM they comes with are crap and didn't last very long, especially the driver side.

The only thing I regret is not getting the Sports Package. I was impatient and would have had to wait for it. The one I got was brought in from another dealership and it was the color I wanted and a MT. I still love the Z, but with all the stuff I've had to spend on these days, I wish I were a bit wiser with buying this thing lol. I don't regret it though.

kenchan 09-17-2014 11:31 AM

paint is fine on my 5yr old (same with my 10yr old) :p clearbra is also a good investment though.

VCuomo 09-17-2014 03:38 PM

I was eligible for the 5 year club back in May. :)
