Haha, I didn't learn about this feature until a couple weeks after I got my ride. I actually thought to check because I accidently rolled the windows down in someone's 98-ish Maxima.

It would be very easy to implement but I suspect there is a reason they didn't - just like being able to roll the windows down with the remote but not back up.

This feature is an easy aftermarket addition, especially with an aftermarket alarm. DEI (and I'm sure most other smaller lines) Car Alarms all have the capability of adding a 530T Window Automation Module. It not only gives you "one-touch" functionality for your windows but can be triggered to vent, roll down, or roll up your windows.

Default usage would be a button press to vent, press and hold to roll down (stop at any time to leave the windows where they are,) or arm the alarm to roll the windows up. The automatic rolling-up of the windows upon arming is the best feature IMO.

Installation requires 4 wires to be run INTO each door, so most will shy away from this, unless paying someone else to install it. I haven't looked at the doorjams in detail yet, nor inspected the wire harness boot to see if it is a plug style.

I'm sure this module could also be installed without an alarm and give you the ability to automatically roll up your windows upon arming, so long as the BCM has an isolated arm output beyond flashing the lights, the chirp, or locking the doors.

I will be ordering a DEI 2Way Remote Start car alarm within the next 4 to 6 weeks, and doing a full write-up of the installation process. ATM I'm not sure if I will install a window module, although knowing me, I probably will.

I wish they would still have the remote rear hatch release like the 350Z...

here's a question since there's a thread opened already...kinda a little off topic but has to do with keyfob...sorry, if this is in the manual, then, well, I'm just too lazy to read it, but here goes:

How long/far can you drive the car without the the keyfob inside the car? cuz you can actually drive it once it's been started without the keyfob..

oh, here's another tip for the OP, if your engine is running, and you need to step out of the car for a quick minute (to run into the grocery store, or maybe to warn up your car in the early morning), you can start the car, step out, close the door, and use the keyfob or the button on the door handle to lock the car...I do this a lot when I have to just run in and out somewhere, just so I don't have to restart my car again and my A/C will still be running, AND my car is locked so no one can get in it...I guess you can say there's a benefit to this too: you burn less gas cuz you don't have to restart the car, cuz your car juices more gas when you start the vehicle...then again, if you're gonna be in somewhere for 30 minute, that defeats the whole purpose of saving gas...in that case, turn off your damn car, you're heating up the outdoor damn it... :)

Thanks for the tip! I'll certainly wave if I ever see you zooming around in Houston.

Mine works from about 30 feet away, "if" there is a clean line of site to the car. Nice on hot days to roll the windows down from that far away, makes the interior a little cooler when you get in.

The prox range from either door handle or the hatch is roughly 21 inches. The range of the remote itself is probably 50ft or more. If you want to increse the range a little bit just put the fob under your chin while using it. It sounds like an old wives tale, but it works, been doing it for years when working on cars.

Yup, that is true. I've been doing this for years too. Customers would be looking at me weird, but when you have 200 cars on the front line, and you're trying to see where one is, it definitely helps...
