How do you explain this....

The link below is for a 2012 370z with under 5k miles. How can that be possible? How can the car find itself in a Dodge dealership?

Is there anything fishy?

aszyd 08-20-2014 08:59 PM

People trade stuff all the time. My first Z was from a Ford dealer. The PO traded it for a 5.0 Stang.

ZeeBabar 08-20-2014 09:07 PM

But a 2+ year old car with less than 5000 miles? Why would anyone trade it. Even if they did, why is it not been resold and resold? I will see if I can check a car fax.

Spooler 08-20-2014 09:17 PM

I bought my 2012 Nismo from a Ford Dealer with 19,000 miles. Previous OP also bought a Mustang...LOL

aszyd 08-20-2014 09:56 PM

It's hard to say. Zs have never been hot sellers due to everything that makes them a Z. Perhaps it was bought as a second vehicle, driven very little over it's ownership, then traded / sold when the owner realized that it was not worth the expense or decided to upgrade to a new Viper, or something.

ZeroZeta 08-20-2014 10:12 PM

Hey ZeeBabar. It is possible. My Z is over a year old and I have around 2k on the odometer.

Its about how an owner uses their Z. Obviously mine is not a DD and only a weekend car. Plus being in Illinois it sits in the garage about 4 months out of the year while I wait for an end to the freezing temps.

I were to trade mine in now I would expect potential buyers to have the same response.
Give it a shot and take a look at that Z. It might be legit.

kenchan 08-20-2014 10:28 PM

doesnt necessarily mean that the car was traded in at that dealer. dealer can buy used cars from auctions and other dealerships, etc.

Hotrodz 08-20-2014 10:33 PM

Yup, I bought my 2010 in June of 2012 with just at 11k. Some people think they want a two seater and when they realize it's not the best riding, it's noisy and the visibility is not great, they get rid of them fairly quickly. Good luck!

tonybell_57 08-20-2014 11:13 PM

I bought my 2012 370Z roadster at a Honda dealership in January. it had less than 7,000 miles on it. The previous owner traded it on an Accord. I got a great deal.

Super Werty 08-20-2014 11:22 PM

something tells me youve never been to a dealership before. They've got all sorts of other brands traded in daily...including nicer used cars than they sell new

Rusty 08-20-2014 11:31 PM

My Nismo. The first owner bought it new in 4/11 in WV. Then traded it in on a 4x4 in 11/11 with 8,000 miles on it in Pa. The reason he trade it in is because he couldn't drive it in the snow. Then I bought it in 12/11. :D

Limeybastard 08-21-2014 12:01 AM

To OP, mine was traded in at 1500 miles to dealer also which I bought from.

Benibiker 08-21-2014 12:29 AM

People do crazy things, I know... I traded in a 2011 Lexus IS 250 after owning it a month and only 650 miles. To make it even stranger I traded it for the very Mini I had traded in on it. I paid what they gave me on the Mini and only lost $2k on the IS. Couldn't stand the Lexus. Hey, it was like a month long rental :icon14:

ZeeBabar 08-21-2014 06:22 AM

I can understand trading in a low mileage car but this nod is 2012. So, if someone used it and traded it in, why has it not been re-sold. It's not the low mileage alone, it's the low mileage for a 2112. I have not seen any other 2012 car with that low mileage. Yes, 2013 but even there, they had more miles.

Datsun240Z71 08-21-2014 06:25 AM

My 2011 was 2 years old with 6k miles. Bought new at the same dealer I got it from where it was traded for different color at 6k oil change by previous owner. Her loss, my gain!

Silly Rabbit 08-21-2014 06:31 AM

My 2012 was traded in for an SUV due to upcoming kids. It only had 3200 miles on it when I bought it in March.

mishuko 08-21-2014 07:27 AM

2012 with ~10k miles. It was traded cause the guy had a few little ones. Although there is a child seat anchor so it's kid friendly!

Firebase99 08-21-2014 07:56 AM

I sold my 2013 370Z 10 months later with fewer than 8000 miles.

Don't do it! It's a Decepticon!! Run away as fast as possible and contact the Autobots for backup!

big daddy 08-21-2014 08:50 AM

Purchased my used 2013 Nismo with 1800 miles on it. They had the care for over a year and never drove it?

They had more money than time

njobe89 08-21-2014 09:35 AM

there is nothing wrong with that. some people buy a car and don't like to drive it much. i bought a 2005 rsx-s in 2011 and it had only 5,xxx miles. the guy only drove it on the weekends when it was sunny up in grand rapids. he said he never drove it in the winter or when it was raining. i mean it was only a rsx-s lol. within 3 years of owning i put over 100,000 miles on the car. just depends from person to person and how much they drive.

kenchan 08-21-2014 09:38 AM

ive also bought a car new and sold it within 6months. 6k on the odo. could not like the car.

JWillis72 08-21-2014 09:45 AM

I bought my 2009 last year with only 6,700 on it, it was at a vacation home of an older Chinese couple. It was at a Honda dealer where they traded it in on a Pilot because it was to hard to get in and out of.I didn't believe the dealer when he told me that but I found a bunch of their info the car.

Why did you go from a new Z to a new Genesis? They are quite similar, but also quite different. What drew you to the car? That's not a trade that I would make.

280z/300zx 08-21-2014 10:18 AM

Just bought my Corvette Grand Sport 2012 with less than 3k miles on it two months ago. The warning tag for the airbag in the glove box was still hanging there. So yeah, it happens.

Story on mine was some 70 year old guy who owned 8 Vettes traded my car in to buy the new Z28 Camaro.

mishuko 08-21-2014 10:30 AM

oh yea forgot to mention... from an Acura dealership =)

husarowns 08-21-2014 10:38 AM

My 2010 had 25k miles on it and 1 previous owner. I was a bit baffled by the low mileage. But by the looks of it nothing is damaged minus a few tiny Rock chips on the front end. I bought it in 2014.

husarowns 08-21-2014 10:44 AM

Forgot to mention the car fax was clean....as long as there are no mechanical issues or aesthetic who cares....just do the research on the car. Here in VA we have a shop that will do pre buy car inspections for a small fee

I bought my 2012 with 1600 miles on it from CarMax. They got it from a local Chevy dealer...

So in a nutshell, nope, nothing fishy here. :icon17:

kenchan 08-21-2014 03:18 PM

kudo's to carmax for having that 7day grace period or something where you can return the car for a full refund or store credit.

you're overthinking it...my friend got a GREAT deal on a 2013 vw bug...bought it used in 2013...only had 283 miles on it...previous owner came down with an illness and dealership bought it back (long history with previous owner)...they couldn't resell it as new because it had been titled

Read T 08-21-2014 03:31 PM

A few years ago a Z32 in Charlotte sold with like 30 (thirty) miles. It had been kept at a dealership.

i give absolutely no kudos to carmax... they will low ball you lower then idk im coming up with a blank for a word i want to use. but anything you bring them they will try to give you waaaaaay less then what u can sell it for and try to sell what they have for waaaay more.

when i was looking to buy a rsx-s i went to carmax they had one with 22,xxx miles and they were asking for 23k. i found one with 7k miles for 17k. so yea they can take it up the pooper with their prices and no hassle pricing.

3rdDanZ 11-03-2014 10:06 PM

If its a franachise dealership, they will move trade-in's to another franchise location; sometimes test drivers end up buying other cars, so the Z was left there as an option.

Ed_Collins 11-04-2014 08:43 PM

My 2013 370z was purchased earlier this summer at a Mitsubishi dealership, with less than 3,000 miles on the odometer.

MJB 11-04-2014 08:46 PM

When I was shopping for a Z in 2011, I found an 11' Nismo at a Chevy dealership with just under 2k miles on.

trackster22 11-04-2014 08:59 PM

low miles, no problem

When I purchased my 2011 it was August, 2012 and it was new. So the car was almost one year old, but never off the lot. I drove it about 3000 miles the first year, so when August 2013 came around the car was actually two years old with 3000 miles. So I don't find a low mileage Z that is 2-3 years old that strange. Enjoy the car!! trackster22

Jazzster 12-02-2014 03:32 PM

My 2010 roadster had 8,700 miles on it - just picked it up 2 weeks ago. It was owned by a lady who worked from home. She traded it and her older corvette for a new stingray.

Check the car out and get it!

Got_Z 12-02-2014 04:27 PM

I bought my 2011 with 4k miles about 6 months ago Lol. Not a big deal man. Mine didn't have a scratch on it. In fact it still had the plastic from factory when it was delivered on the inside.

Someone drove 4000 miles without taking the plastic off? Weird. :icon17:
