If you read the law, at least in NY, it reads a front plate must be "conspicuously displayed." Basically, this means it must be easily visible to law enforcement and sticking it in your front windshield doesn't really count! Personally, I cannot stand front plates as I feel it detracts from the overall look of the front end, and although I had one on my '07 Z, there definitely WILL NOT be one on my new Z!

^^^ +1. I've paid a LOT of front plate fines. I'll continue to do so.

I turned down a pretty lucrative job offer once because it would require that I relocate to a state that requires front plates. How's that for being obstinate? :)

^^^ Yeah. You win on that one. :D

I've been pulled over five times for various things, and I've never had front plates. 3 times the police didn't say anything. The other two times they just said "hey you need to get a front plate".

I believe in TX it's a pretty cheap "fix-it ticket" anyway. Could be wrong on that though.

Going to bump this up to re-ask a question.
Any good solutions for front plates that do not require you to drill into the car? Since I live in Texas, and drive through a few places that love to give tickets for anything (have given tickets for going 1MPH over).

Stillen makes a front plate bracket that doesn't require drilling.

I went 10 years without a front plate on my Trans Am in TX. Over the course of that time, I was pulled over a number of times for speeding, etc :p, probably averaged a little over 1 ticket per year. One time it was mentioned, as in "Hey you need a front plate, I won't ticket you, but some other ******* might, so you should put it on". Another time I got a written warning for it (which doesn't mean anything). Twice they actually added the "missing front plate" charge to my ticket, and I paid the fine for it, which was small. I still never installed that damn plate :) I wouldn't worry about it much in TX.

If i do get pulled over for mine not being on my car, I am going to use the excuse that the dealer never installed it and I am waiting for them to order me one ....

My buddy in his 550i has been pulled over several times and they have mentioned the front plate missing but he has always been issued a warning, never a ticket.

Here in Kalifornia they'd give you the ticket and tell you to stop waiting for the dealer...

Zip Tie the front plate on the back of the Passenger side visor works like a charm!!! Very visible and so far no issues with the police...

I've been given crap about no plate in the past, but never a ticket. I was in a feisty mood one time and said something along the lines of "So you're telling me if I have a $100,000 Mercedes I have to drill holes in my front bumper to mount a plate?!" He just calmly replied "yes."
