I remember Porsche said years back they will only cater to making sports cars no SUVs...,.now what do we have the cayenne and the latest Crossover Machan. Who cares about the purist? They are only a few. Widen the market that is where the money is! Make a super car affordable and run through the production line thus comes Nissan GTR with all the driving aids even a 16 year old rich mamas boy can drive one in the track like a pro! Even car makers have change there game why kill each other when we can team up to survive and build an affordable sports car a 4 banger thus the brz/frs! What a nice strategy isnt? Why not Nissan + renault + merc come up with the same stategy so that even a newly high school graduate would able to taste what it feels to have a sports car! Again Because its PRofitable. So the rumors might be just arond the corner. |
Except the rumors say that Subaru got the short end of that deal and are pulling out of the BRZ market, especially after the ToyoBMW partnership.
Should have released a proper STI, with a turbo, to differentiate them from the Scion. I say that there are two vendettas against manuals. Lazy people who just want to press the gas pedal and go, and the designers of performance cars who KNOW that their DCTs are faster than a manual. They didn't decide to stop making them out of spite, the market and technology has advanced to the point where manuals are becoming irrelevant. Also, I love SRM! I can't heel toe for **** and without height adjustable pedals, I don't think I will ever take the time to learn. |
I agree I certainly think Subaru was the one made more money out of the partnership as Frs have used and will continue to use the subaru boxter engine.
RND is the most expensive dept in the automotive industry. Its cheaper to source out other company who have already made all the Rnd and comes up with a good product. Nissan has made the right move in choosing Merc to provide turbo charged engine + hybrid option. Hey who is currently making a killing in F1 in terms of reliability with turbo engines guess what its Mercedez Benz! |

Boxster is a Porsche, Boxer is an engine. |
Nice catch my bad! Thanks for the correction.
Im sorry I still love Porsche but still cant afford that darn car! I wish Porsche would partner with Kia!:wtf2: |
IMO, the Cayman is the ever looming presence over a 370z. That or the Audi TT-RS which was limited production.
|
I didn't buy a Toybaru because there was no power and it's got a shitty interior compared to a used Z for the same price. I don't regret my decision. I'd be interested in a TT V6, or just a little more power out of the current V6. Add that to a lighter weight, and I'm happy.
Needs to have a real manual, though. I don't care that a DCT auto is faster. I don't want one. |
They should just throw direct injection ports into the VQ37. That would really help with the power.
|
So the Turbo 3.0 liter is expecting 328hp? I hope that's at the wheels (not likely), or otherwise Nissan is back sliding. That better include a decent increase in MPG or otherwise my thought is that they are wasting their time. Of course, with the talk of throwing an electric motor into the mix, hopefully that HP figure will jump up a bit. Would like to see numbers near the 375 mark or so. That would make it more worthwhile IMO.
As for the turbo 4...why? Unless their plans for the IDx fall through, they will already have a Turbo 4 sports car. Double-dipping would do nothing more than hurt sales for both, and if the Nismo IDx is cheaper, hang it up. Unless you are the kind of person that doesn't care about power and just wants the look? Of course, I have always been the kind of person that would wonder why someone would buy a V6 in a car, when the V8 is an option. It just seems like a waste to me. But hey, it's Nissan's money. If this decision comes back to bite them in the ***, sucks to be them. |
Current rumors are that the iDX is not going to be produced.

I've seen a couple stories of this since morning, here is another article :
2017 Nissan Z35 could feature turbo hybrid powertrain | Digital Trends rumor it will cost 60k, gtfo http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/ha...y-emoticon.gif |
I wonder if the turbo four will be base and the 3.0 turbo might be exclusive to the nismo. Anyone else think this may be the case.

From the talk I had it sounded like it would just be the RS. The rest will be as usual.
I also just found this: http://autoweek.com/article/car-news...-hybrid-engine Zdayz 2014!! |
http://www.motoring.com.au/news/spor...a-hybrid-45278
^^^ I don't know how much of that (if any) will pan out, but I'm certainly open to a PRHT or t-top option. The predicted power output is no different that the current Z... Note: That 60K price is in AUD not USD. |
And a straight currency conversion won't be accurate either for an expected price of the car here.. Cars cost a lot more in Australia.
|
I like the idea of engine option plus targa !
I actually dont really care abt engine just wanna see the new z35 design,, they better not messy it up |
|
Im thinking they will throw the merc benz motor in to cut costs of r&d on a new engine for a car that doesnt sell well.
Personally im putting my eggs in the ft1 supra coming out. I havent seen a decent concept of the new Z yet. They have the ability to make something great but im thinking it will be a big fail. |
Its going to be vq37vhr. I guarantee it. So u guys can quit guessing.

Its time to bring a new motor in. The Z needs to be turbo'd. A v6 turbo should be the choice. And this single turbo setup wouldnt even compare to the GTR so there is no cross in products. Keep the weight down to 3000 or less. |

my wrx 2.5L on the stock turbo (38lbs/min) did 22-23psi tapering down to 15psi at redline because it was so small. it made 335hp 396tq aw. that AMG is only really doing 300whp. thats a wrx at stage 2 boost (down pipe, CBE and CAI) which can last a life time at 18psi tapering down to 13-14psi. |
Did something change I thought the 3.0L turbo from Mercedes was confirmed from more than one source.

So the new Z will most likely be a merc benz in Nissan clothing. .. to me thats the end of the Z. Im actually already leaning towards Toyota with the new supra anyway but its too bad the new Z may self destruct. |

Well idk wtf u guys r thinking, i dont want to be a troll, but if you put a German in a Japanese clothes, its still a F@(Kin German. Lol

I know that was speculated, but I don't recall any leaked insider info  |
All the links are in this thread you just gotta read through it.

Here is one that may or may not have made on here but it's still basically same info.

I don't think anyone here wants the Mercedes engine but they're the only engines brought up in any article I have found. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Dont kid your self the heart of a car is the engine and transmission. Its the death of the z if they source to mercedes. I would rather see a 4 cylinder turbo made by nissan that focused on performance then a v6 turbo merc engnine. |
I just hope Nissan doesn't do that "engine noise amplification" BS that other car companies are doing.
|
Well, the new GT-R that's getting released in 2017? will have the 3.8L V6 twin turbo motor- hybid combo with over 800HP. So any turbo motor may make it into the new Z.

Don't kid yourself, a well developed mercedes powerplant isn't end of Z if that's direction nissan goes. Have to hand it to Nissan they have kept all in the dark about what's going on with Z. |
Quote:
Is the FRS a Subaru? Is the Genesis 2.0 an Evo? Is the Vette a Silverado? Its not like Nissan is going to be taking these motors out of Benz's. Just because they use the basic engine design doesn't mean that Nissan won't have any development in the motor that makes it to the Z. This is all speculation anyway. Hell Nissan could use the motor straight from the Mercedes factory, but even then to say its not a Z is absurd. Nissan is going to be doing a ton of R&D on the car. Specifically design for a smaller/lighter car and suspension. Mercedes is not. |
Quote:
If nissan can truly dig in and increase reliability and make a Mercedes engine mod friendly then it wont be the death of the z. These speculation forums really bring out the best in all of us... lol Im not arguing fyi |
Z35 motor theory
I'm not as worried about the engine as I am the hybrid setup that will be paired to it. It's one thing to have a hybrid DD that you don't plan on keeping since the warranty will pretty much take care of you, but putting a really expensive system that will most likely need expensive maintenance work on top of the regular drivetrain maintenance worries me.
