There has been talk about this lightweight, quick (200-250HP) car from Toyota/Subaru for awhile now. I heard at one point it was not going to happen and then a few months later it was online still.

:iagree: They talk a lot, if they rely want to get back into the game they should do it. But they should be better looking than the older celicas. I never liked how they looked.

A 370Z will run away from an STi/Evo. The only reason they seem quick on paper is because of their launching ability, and that only applies if you do not care for the car. Once they are out of first-gear, they are not impressive, and actually quite slow after 100 MPH.

and i dont think they can pull it off for under 20 grand either...maybe 25-28...

But if it wants to be seen as direct competition for the Z, I think they need a 6. Otherwise it'll be considered to be in a different class. Take the STi for example. I think it's even quicker than the Z, right? But I think most people consider the STi and Z to be in different genres, if that makes any sense.

Ya the STI is a rally car the Z is a sports car.

I would trade in my 370Z for the 2011 Supra when it hits our shores. Beautiful, Fast & Green.

2011 Toyota Supra to get 400-hp via 3.5L V6 mated to a hybrid system - egmCarTech

Anyone else think that looks like a widebody ISF coupe?

bigaudiofanat 09-22-2009 08:37 PM

I think your right about that.

First of all competition is good for all of us. I am looking forward to seeing some worthy opponents. At this point they also need to get their reputation back. They won't do it just by putting a car out there with 300+hp under 30k. It also has to prove worthy. They do not get unearned respect from me just because they build supra 10 years ago. They didn't import a single worthy sports car in 10 years. Their Lexus brand is barely desireable to sports car fanatics. Toyota needs to come back but these days automakers seem to get undeserved respect/attention with a canvas and a brush.

Not the tt is under 20k that's the na. The tt price wasn't discussed.
Nobody thought hyundai would make 306 horses for 25k n so many features.
But they did.

The Hyundai doesnt have the good engine mechanics (not the human kind) that a Toyota has. I think they will be very hard pressed to do that car under 30K and keep thier standards of mechanics in the verhicle. If they do it under that then it will not last as long as their other cars do.

I totally agrree with u. I got my Z on order but I'm like hey. I wanna chill with genesis coupe owners n toyota enthusiasts, G owners, mitsu n subie fantatikz.
I wanna build with these people. Hang wit em. N race for a friendly G note here and there.
Its all luv. No matter what we drive... we do it 4 the same reason. The luv, the sport n the rush.
I wanna see toyota back in action. I wanna see them doin thingz on the track.
Imagine going to the track n everyone owned a Z. Lol how boring!
N face it. The Z isn't gonna win every race. Even if u think u have a better car? U might not be the better driver? Racing is 50% skill n 50% ballz. No matter what car u in. U gotta respect da skill of a driver n whatever car he used to wh1p a$$!:iagree:.

the genesis has also shown to have a glass tranny, if I find the article online i'll post it. Booo Hyundai!

awesomez 09-22-2009 09:23 PM

Call me crazy but I don't consider Genesis quite in the same class as Z. Nissans VQ engine has been on Wards top 10 engines for 14 years in a row. The first Hyundai engine that made it this year "Hyundai Motor Co. Ltd.: 4.6L DOHC V-8 (Genesis)" - sedan version, removing the VQ from the list. This tells me they are getting there but not quite there. Engine is just one example, everything else can be measured by similar means.

Yeah, that's what I was quoted when I called around back a good 6-8 months ago (maybe longer...), before GM's bailout, but after sales were headed to the crapper.
