Clarifications on keyfob, exiting and locking. Leave running?

Ok so I haven't tried this but I saw some people talking about how they start the car and lock it, kind of like remote start where the car can't be driven away? Also, once the car is started can it b driven all day long without the keyfob in my possession up until next stop/start? How does this all work?

Not planning on doing these kind of things, just want to know the functions/limits of the proximity remote with the Z.

This is embarrassing but...a month after I had the car I got out and locked it then went in to the mall and watched a movie. Came out and the car was still running. >.<

Wasn't used to the button idea yet!

I see no reason why the car can't be driven once on and no fob. I think you only need it to start it up.

Had a coworker of mine do that with a Dodge Journey rental car. It happens. I did give him **** about it later though.

Back to the original subject, while I haven't actually tried driving it around, I have started the car, and then gotten out to go back into the house or another building before. All the car does is beep at you and display a message saying that the key is not present. Otherwise it does seem to be able to drive with no issues. Range is obviously not an issue from what I have seen. It's a good tactic to have if you need to get out of the car quick to do something, but don't want to shut it off. Otherwise I wouldn't make a habit of it. Could lead to potential problems (i.e., drive somewhere and realize you forgot to bring your keys with you.)

Key has to be inside the car in order for you to drive off. If the key is not inside the car, it shuts off when you press the brake pedal for automatics but I'm not too sure about manual trannys.

I just started my '09, threw keys on work bench, and drove to end of driveway and back.

I remember reading somewhere a WHILE BACK about a pizza delivery guy left his 370z on and somebody stole it I think he found it later and I think he had the key fob with him

Could be a newer feature? I have a 09 so mine would mimic south Ark's

Mine is a 2012. Gonna try it in a little while. Like I went to pick up some food earlier but I didn't want to turn the car off and lose all my cold air that took me 10 min to build up. But I turned it off and came back in 3 min later. It was all gone. :(

http://www.nj.com/news/local/index.s...1/post_37.html ....this is the link I thought it said something about the key fob... http://www.the370z.com/north-east-re...olen-370z.html

I do it all the time with mine... Turn it on, lock the doors and then head back inside to punch out. By the time I walk back to my car, it's nice and cold inside.

I think you can actually drive off with the car for about 12 minutes before it shuts itself off since the fob isn't inside.

I know some toyota and other cars have that feature.

I do the same...I turn on my car on the morning to let it warm up and keep the keys on me but I always lock it...if u want to keep ur car on just take the key with you and lock it

You may be right for your MY. They may have changed the behavior when they deleted the ESCL (2010? 2011?).

Dont know about it shutting off in 12 minutes never tried it but if you hop in and go somewhere and shut it off your screwed . maybe the pizza guy left the car running and didnt push the button to lock it
