It's dumb but the fob is only needed to start the car. Once started it just b1tches that there is no key in it but it still lets you put it in gear and drive away.

About a week after I got my old '09, my friends dad took my car down the street while i stood in the driveway holding the key. I thought there'd be a feature to prevent that... obviously not.

On an embarrassing note, my fiancee keeps my spare key in her purse, and one day I dropped her off at the store (without my key), drove out and parked in the parking lot, turned the car off and waited, then when I saw her, I tried to start the car, no dice. The look on her face after having to walk way across the parking lot in heels to come rescue me was not a happy one.

When I used to Valet, you'd be surprised how many people went to dinner with their key fob. I'm talking Merc, BMW, Nissan, you name it. Car would run fine. Just can't start it to drive it out to them obviously. They come out and we would be like "Uhhh you have the fob." They would argue that it can't be driven without it blah blah you lost it. Not a second later there is the wife holding the key fob she left in her purse. People.

Love the starting/locking feature and of course the best feature is rolling the windows down..although I've also drove away without my key fob before. The one problem with my key fob is that it's on a..let's call it a "janitors set of keys" I have about 20 keys (bulky) it seems so I always throw them on the passenger seat or try to remember to put it in the cars fob vagina ;). , but I always end up forgetting there in the car. Lol I think smart keys benefit a woman with a purse more than a man with a wallet..

Our Z's get angry when you take the keys away from her.....BEEP..BEEP...BEEPPPP...BEEEPPPPPPP.

True that! Someone needs to invent/design a key fob that is just a bit thicker than a credit card (to hold battery), with credit card height and width...then it fits right in the wallet. I'm not an engineer, but I suspect you could also make it interact with the car in the event of a dead battery..

I have an 09 MT and drove it for 20-25 min. with no fob and didn't have a problem.

But if I start it and lock the doors can it be stolen? If the window is broken and door is unlocked will it disable the car?

Yes. All it takes is a flatbed and a winch.

I don't think so but you can try it out. Simulate the broken window by rolling it down.

No it won't matter, the car will still drive until it's turned off then it won't start without the fobbie. :driving:

Yeah you guys that turn on car and lock the door are asking for it. Rolled window down and locked the door with keyfob and put keys on porch. Unlocked by reaching in and nothing happened. Drove away.
