Duckbill
Hey guys, I'm really thinking that I "need" a carbon duckbill and I was planning on having it painted MB to match. Now I know what you are thinking... Why would you paint over the beauty of the carbon, but I'm just very picky that things match.
That being said I'm considering just leaving it carbon but it seems like it would be out of place with no other exposed carbon pieces. Does anyone have a MB painted car with a carbon wing I could see a picture of ? Thoughts in general ? Thanks ! |
Personally I love the duckbill spoiler, with that being said...
Why would you want to go with a carbon spoiler, if your going to paint it?? For one FRP is half the price and half the weight as wet carbon.. No one will know the diffrence if it's painted... Just my $0.02... |

Here are some pics of my cf add-on spoiler. It's not the "duck bill" but it's has a similar shape. If you already have a factory spoiler I think it goes better with the factory rear bumper. Only problem is I can't remember where I got it. They may not make it anymore. If your interested, pm me and I'll find out and let you know.

It adds on to the existing spoiler, so you have to drill into it.

mine's the mine's CF spoiler. looks great on my car, but on a darker car the duckbill appears to look better as the duckbill stands out.
and it's an original design so that gets a  |
To each their own. I think the duckbill looks best with the amuse rear bumper because they both extend further backward. On the stock bumper I think the profile looks a little silly. The 3/4 and rear view look great though. Just my .02

Went from no spoiler to 4 holes and this thing. |

Adds such a nice contour to the Z without being overly aggressive and the finish in CF is just beautiful. Also no drilling that fact that it slides right on top of the stock spoiler and you can use 3m to hold it...brilliant |
Duckbill on CF. Such a waste to get it painted. Maybe a portion but not the entire spoiler. Just got mine a few weeks ago.

Bringing this thread back - anyone try the Ikon duckbill? I like how it doesn't stick out as much as other options. Wondering about fitment and different angled photos (online ones from Ikon are pretty limited in viewing angles).
There's this seller on ebay, Xpert Tuning, which sells the Ikon style duckbill pre-painted in any OEM color: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fits-09-18-...53.m1438.l2649 So hoping there are some positive feedback people here can provide. |

I went with the duckbill from Dar, out of Texas. They paint your spoiler as well and then ship it to you. They had great service and even sent me a replacement at no cost since mine had a defect. You can find more duckbills and guidance on my thread http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...e-spoiler.html https://www.darspoilers.com/products...r-spoiler-2009 |

With or without the template, you'd still have to eyeball it and ensure the template or duckbill are lined up evenly, using the hatch's brake light. If it doesn't have a template, have another person help you, on person holds the spoiler or template, and once aligned evenly, the other person uses painter's tape to outline the corners, top and bottom.
Look up 350z and 370z duckbill install videos on YouTube. There are also plenty who simply used 3m tape and didn't drill any holes. If you opt for this, ensure you prep properly, and get those 3m adhesion promoter wipes, they sell them in packs of 3 on Amazon for like $10. Quote:
