It really depends on my mood and what I'm doing. Techno (progressive house, Digweed or Sasha mixes are always great), classic rock (Zepplin, Rolling Stones, Beatles, etc.), Punk (Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Dickies, Blink-182), Songs from Hindi movies, classical (whatever is on the local classical station), bluegrass.
I generally prefer punk or techno for spirited driving, and a bit of whatever for cruising around. I have a mix of about 10 hours of my favorite songs on my phone that I stream for daily commuting - basically anything that plays is something I like that way. :happydance: |

I don't know, but it seems like the Village People made a lot of people happy. We could derogate it for being pop or commercial, but satisfying simple pleasure seems to be an important reason for music to exist. Not the only reason, but one of them. I LOVE old school funk, which ain't far off from disco. I also have liked Daft Punk for a while now and they have exploded with what are essentially disco tunes. Now, I like Miles Davis, The Clash, The Velvet Underground, etc., so I'll put that out there to prove that I also listen to "good music" and not that garbage that lots of regular people enjoy. |
Made a CD/playlist (swapped out the head unit early on) when I first got the Z called "First Drive" for just this sort of thing. That particular playlist has artists ranging from Joe Bonamassa, Blues Traveler, Black Crowes, over to Phil Collins, REM, Lorde.
Other artists I favor in the car are Anders Osborne, Krewella, ZZ Top, Clapton, Billy Joel... My iTunes collection is almost too big. Hard to settle on something to listen to. |
Roger shah radio broadcasts. I have them on loop that lasts for weeks. Love my trance.

I think the best like driving fast music is easily rage against the machines
But if I'm casually cruising with the windows down, I like to listen to linkin park, or 90 alternative, sometime alittle bit of rap |

Sounds like my grandmother's take on rock and roll. Y'all should talk hemeroids and denture cream sometime : ) |
Like many here, I'm pretty eclectic, focusing on old school heavy metal (no scream), hard rock, rock and blues (in the vein of Joe Bonamassa, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Johnny Winter, etc.). If I had to pick one band to cruise to, it would undoubtedly be AC/DC!

I shouldn't because I get road rage every time.

I like things that have a constant wall of sound... Deftones and Chevelle are good for that. March of the Pigs by NIN always gets me speeding too.

There is no lack of understanding involved. Quite the contrary. I am like the little kid in the fable The Emperor's New Clothes. Being pure of mind and spirit, I see that rap is not the gilded robes but is a figment of mass hypnosis of those who were afraid to criticize it for it's lack of recognizable talent |

I think that's a fair statement. Thinking something sucks is an expression of a subjective assessment. Saying something "isn't music" assumes one can be the arbiter of truth on what is a largely subjective matter. And you are absolutely right "to each his own." I have a nice drive in WV coming up and this thread reminded me I have to put together music for the drive. I don't want to be hunting for Hanson or the Bieb on my winding drive. |
i've been listening to the same cd for about a week now, almost at the point where i'm tired of it lol
|
anyone know where you can download mixes of youtube "legally" ... i found a site but only lets you go 20 min max :(
|
Rap doesn't bother me too much, but I do have a couple of rules regarding it; The artist has to rhyme, and rhyme well. Half-assed rhyming is just talking to a beat, which any moron can do. They also have to flow with the music. If they can't do that, they why the hell are they even rapping in the first place.
Now for anyone here that may be more into Metal, might I recommend some Sabaton? YouTube |

I can't stand rap with too many 4-letter words, n-this, n-that, etc. I'm not a PC guy. But I think rap today is a little over the top with all the vulgarities. I used to like rap a lot, until high school. But when I hit my early 20s I kinda phased out of it. But I do like some rap/hip hop from time to time. Rap in top 40 music is aight, but most of it is garbage. But rap today is too commercialized versus the 90s and prior. Rap is the new rock. Back in the 80s everyone used to think rock was the bane of youth culture e.g. suicide themes, devil worshipping, etc. Now it's gangsta rap that people blame for kids acting violent with "gats in they waist."
"I'm pop pop pop any m'fcka that wanna throw up they 'hood....B's be jockin me, cuz I'm playa fo' life, papa chasin ain't no thang, cuz bills come in 100s....my whip is a Bentley...got mo' chedda than Forbes could count...n-this, n-that..."<--Yeah, this kinda rap is childish babble. |
