paint issue/question
2 Attachment(s)
Hi all...
Silver 12 Roadster. This is on the trunk lid. Wasn't there a week ago, and I don't see it anywhere else. Anyone see something like this before? Thanks in advance! |
bird crap etching maybe?
|
That'd make sense but I never leave any on it... The car is also always in the garage or under a cover.
|
how big is the damage?
it could be that a bug died between your cover and car. |
i also see other black dots which look like carbon deposits. have you tried claybar?
|
then try mild polish like ScratchX on a foam pad.
if that doesnt remove it, then it's under the clearcoat...completely etched through or your basecoat is contaminated (from factory). |
it's about 1/2 an inch. The car is dirtier than usual but it was clay-barred about two months ago. I've tried everything. It's definitely through the clear and paint.
|
sorry to hear. you'll need a repaint in this case. check with your dealer.

well what the F. Is the paint on these worthless? I'm really good about not leaving anything on it. I neglect my other (much cheaper) cars and nothing like this has happened.

I had a spot like this show up on my hood. It started as a wet looking spot under the clear and then evolved into this. Nissan rejected my defective paint claim so I bit the bullet and used my insurance to have the roof and hood resprayed and a new bumper put on (separate issue).
|
Nooooo, I got a little wet spot from a bird crap that came off the lot. It looks like a shinny etch in the clear coat on the hood. It doesn't look like it got any worse but remains the same
|
bird crap can be very acidic depending on wat they ate.
|
Bird poo.

I'm calling BULL POO on this crap paint. There wasn't even anything on the spot to be wiped off. Is it possible it's corrosion from under???

Good point. That'll be a fun fight with the dealer!

good idea

Good luck! I had a a guy from a body shop come over while I was at a Nissan dealership for the claim and it didn't help. The guy tested the paint depth (I think that's what it was) in front of us and stated that it could not have been a pdr mishap or a faulty respray done before I purchased it. He also pointed out other areas of defects that I hadn't even seen yet.
If you didn't buy used, you might have more of a chance at getting Nissan to respray it. |
Wtf did the bird eat?! Anyhow, trying using touch up paint to cover up most of the damage. GL
|
another win for nissan paint :ugh2:

There was nothing there to even wipe off. That's what's making me crazy. I have also have a 13 Suzuki, made from recycled pop cans and painted with what I thought was the worst paint ever. It's neglected and covered in bird crap. Nothing like this has happened to it. If I got a $20 car wash it'd look brand new. I have a 14 charger. Same story. Had a cube. Neglected. If you stared at it long enough the paint would fall off!!! And nothing like this happened to it. |
That looks like some sort of paint stripper/solvent damage to me. It is appears to be curling.
|
I'm not sure if curling is a tech term I don't understand. In person it looks like battery acid must have been dripped on it. The car is never really out of my sight. I don't leave it at the mall or anywhere else. I just drive it to the wash, putt around a bit and put it back in the garage. No time and too many motorcycles so it doesn't get used much. If this came out of a bird, that birds DEAD. Couldn't have survived passing this. I can really only imagine the aluminum is corroding for some reason.

paint issue/question
I have what looks like a shadowy gray mark on the hood of my car...it is not on the surface as i tried claybar many times with no success its definitely underneath. It sucks.
The paint on the 370 is not very durable, my friends 08 bmw that is DD city driven sees a car wash maybe 1 time every 4 months and its never seen a clay bar/wax. The paint on his BMW is flawless. No marks under the clear or rust anywhere. A simple water and soap wash and it looks as good as new. Thats what you can expect with more expensive cars. Repeat the above scenario with the 370 and you probably would of thought a million cats running all over your car would of been a better deal. |
At dealer this morning...
Service manager says "it's a paint defect. take it to our body shop and see what they want to do" Body shop manager says "A bird did that." I'm back to square one. Gonna fight. :shakes head: |

take it to another bodyshop for comment.
|
Can you take better pics with the macro feature of a camera?
|
I'll try.
I guess my heartburn in all this is.... MAYBE it was bird poop (I still don't beleive that)... but there should have been SOME residue to clean off ... and that if the clearcoat was any better this would not be happening. I have never even seen this on any of my cars. And I actually take care of this one... I got a blank stare and silence when I said "so I guess suzuki uses better paint on their cars". |
