The one thing I hate about the Z? Horrible rear visibility. Turning left and merging onto traffic at an angle sucks. Aside from that, I love it.

Yea that is sometimes a problem. The blindspot on the right is more troublesome for me. I have adjusted mirrors as far as reasonable and there is still, just a bit, of spot. Gotta pay attention.

But... that's kinda what the Z is all about isn't. It is not a freeway boat. It is a "drivers" car. That's one of the main reasons I bought it.

Really? I guess it depends on how you sit because I too have adjusted my mirrors and totally eliminated my blindspot!

SouthArk370Z 05-30-2014 07:49 AM

If someone is riding shotgun and moves the seat back, the quarter window disappears for me. Not a big problem on the road (one should be aware of other vehicles well before they get to any blind spots), but can be a PITA in parking lots/driveways/&c, even when the passenger seat back is not blocking it.

If you're commuting with heavy traffic -- especially in So Cal -- then I highly recommend convex mirrors for your side mirrors.

Yeah I know that your Great Aunt had them on her Coupe De Ville, but they've saved me many times from side swiping idiots who insist on sitting in my blind spot.

I have seen you post this before, and it definitely depends upon one's seating position. I can not eliminate all blind spots with my stock mirrors. It has been quite the aggravation. But it hasn't been as aggravating as my being unable to get my wife and son to position their side mirrors properly despite years of trying

This. When I picked up my Z and I was driving it home with my wife in the passenger seat, I did not even realize there was a quarter window there until she pointed out (after a couple of hours) something she was looking at outside the quarter window on my side.

The problem this presents for me is when I'm stopped at an intersection that is not quite "square." I can not see if there is oncoming traffic from my right.

There's a window back there?! :icon14:

LOL! Wasn't there similar posts about the Z being a jealous rednek/moron/ricer/etc magnet? It happens in the S STL metro area all the time to me.

Women are competitive too here. I get women in trucks, vans, fuel saving cars trying to out speed me more than you think. You should see their faces when i dont try to dust them. When i stop at the stop light, their face shows, I got him the ballzzzz hahahaha

:iagree:
It is getting real hard to drive my car anywhere without having to deal with these clowns on the road. I just laugh because i know what they are going to do before they do it.:driving:

It's even funnier when they get up on my *** when I'm just minding my own business on the highway and doing the speed limit. I just have nothing to prove to someone in another vehicle. People are crazy, you know? Drivers that end up next to me first in line that punch it at a red light next to me, and the next light 1000 feet ahead is still red.

OMG THANK YOU! I thought that was just a NY thing. The minivan is my worst enemy! A guy in a minivan cut me off totaled my first Z and dam near killed me and me and him were the only two drivers on the highway at the time. Every single thing you said in your post happens to me every fuukin day! I got to say a little prayer every time i make it to my destination..lol

I think people driving minivans knows its not practical for them to be driving a 2 seater so they take out there aggravation on me!:shakes head::driving::shakes head:

Thanks again fountainhead:tup:

Always fun when they cut me off to getting into the off/on ramp, then have to slam their brakes on the turn.

We get to Miss. & keeping the same speed, I swear cattle trucks & yugos were flying by us.
We were being passed by everything on the road.
Already going at a speed that was "bruising" the speed limit pretty bad, we just watched as Caterpillar Road Grading Equipment left us in their dust.

I have caused three people so far to get a speeding ticket with that driving method and 5 people have saved me from getting a speeding ticket because they HAD to be out in front..My favorite type of drivers on the highway!:driving::tup:

One thing I hate about my Z... It doesn't have a magic button, when pressed out pops and ice cold beer from the glove box.

Tadpole 06-01-2014 04:05 PM

Well, with me commuting on the toll roads daily here (speed limit 85) you soon realize that a lot of cars/trucks can not manage much above this. I dont go crazy with speed but hitting 90-95 is typical and there is usually no one tailing me and speed limiters are hitting at 97-102 for the other folks. They just can't keep up and the Z is barely stretching her legs.

I've known so many people that seem to forget that they even have side view mirrors. They don't know what they are for, so they never pay any attention to them. These are the same people that are hilarious to watch backing up a box truck or something else with no back window. They have no idea what to do. :icon17:

Usually, if I happen to drive their vehicle, I'll just set them so that they work for me, and let them figure it out from there.

Let's see, I've had a 50+ y.o. guy in Audi R8 try to race me,a GT-R wanted to pull the "lil' brother" punk card on me by blowing past me; some jerk in a C6 Z06 want to race me; a young, spoiled 17 y.o. high school kid with his current model C63 AMG try to play with me....I smile and let all them pass me up. Rich people act immature too. :shakes head: Oh btw, this is when I had a 370Z.

I know what you mean, I get people wanting to race me at least once or twice a week - I find it hilarious and sometimes have a little fun with them :driving:

Akurei 06-02-2014 08:17 PM

Just be careful out on the road fellas. These mofo's will try to do what it takes to make you **** up your car. Its only assumption but just make it reality because it probably is. Anyhow, I had a beat up concord with ugly *** rims try to race me. It couldn't even keep up with me near half throttle when I was just simply trying to change lanes. I also had some crappy blue accord with 4 people in the car and SUV with a family and the suv is beat up. The problem is, all three of these scums did it all at the same time. So I was at left turn and the ford explorer happens to try to speed up with me when I was trying to get in the right lane after the turn to let the gay concord go speed off, so I sped up in front of the Ford explorer a little bit and passed him and got in the lane cruising at 50mph, 5 seconds later the concord finally passes by me hahaha. Then guess what, the suv gets in the other lane and speeds off with him. Not trying to say it was set up, but it was one hell of a coincidence if that. I don't really care, but I did take what you all said, and I literally laughed it off, enough to show it like a mad man. When are people ever gonna learn. But you know what, I don't give a ****, I love my car, and I will take care of it and beat on it at the right times, and obviously if versing someone, to the real sports cars and definately be at the track. I never had one real sports car try to race me besides a nismo z the first month I had the car. But that dude is just a fag, he works with me. The blue accord was just following me the whole time, but first blocking my path

Yeah I'm kinda mad, but don't take this paragraph to heart. I'm just simply passing on more shitty drivers in california and on top of that, people who don't know **** about cars. :D

Akurei 06-02-2014 09:53 PM

And just so we're clear since I was all rowdy when I submitted this, the Concord was following me and trying to catch up with me before that turn. I didn't realize I was dusting him on the way there until I look in my mirror, a few cars or maybe just a bus back, and hes trying to catch up to me to stay on my ***. Funny thing is, again i was possibly half throttle to the speed limit.

I want to put cameras near all my windows but I ain't that commited to proving a point. I got my registration sticker for my project crx so I'm gonna DD on it more to save my beauty from getting eye banged by people. I don't wanna give Honda a bad name that most people do, but if mofo's egg me on, I'm dusting them. Just with a b16 swap and i/h/e my fastest time was 14.76 in the 1/4 mile. I consider that a fair DD family car, suv, truck beater fight.

B16A, cable tranny, Mugen chip w/ aggressive fuel curve, DC 4-1 header, straight pipe exhaust. If you rebuild the motor and port & polish it, it's not that hard to do low 13s or quicker. The good ol' days, back in 2000 :)

sp911 06-04-2014 05:49 AM

i get these too but one guy last week in a 330 bmw came up to me at a light and actually said, "nice z" and proceeded to ask about it and we talked like human beings for a whole half minute. so for every 10 a-holes there is one good. ditto: Women in sports cars is sexy. nothing sexier!

Well, I just did a long block swap from hmotors online. I'm not looking to put too much work into now I got my Z. Just restoring it. Actually I have the Mugen chip :D. Hell, they were rocking b16's since 88-89 in Japan. Very old news.

Yeah, I know. Japan always has their good stuff...and then let's the U.S. get some of it years later. The B16 is an old motor. It's the "Chevy small block" of Honda motors. Mine probably was an 88-91 motor + tranny, but my friend got lucky and got one with an OEM LSD in it; remember those?..I had an HF CRX because I wanted the lightest one, and my friend had the fully-loaded SI with the sunroof. He still has it. But I got outta the Honda scene back in '03 or something because cops in CA were getting real strict, plus I kinda thought the Honda scene was getting immature and...ghetto (cops made you pop your hood to make sure your motor wasn't stolen, the people involved, etc.). I got pulled over many times for fix-it tickets, and got sick of it. I sold my swapped CRX, and bought a EG hatchback soon after ;) about to do an H22 swap; I wanted the "big-block" Honda motor. But I held off, left the EG stock and sold it.

I understand completely. Way too many immature people, people who haven't done anything to their honda's and try to race people in the street giving Honda a bad name. Then you gotta worry about the thieve's and Bar legal california rules. I'm exempt with Texas plates though.

They still have YS1 LSD Cable Transmission from thr 88-91 engines. Just very rare and hard to find. hmotorsonline will only sell the transmission with a complete swap.

I have a Z. I leave it in the garage for a nice day. I have a Saturn, which has some kick. Everybody and their mother hits the right curbside lane at the light when I'm in the Saturn. When I'm in the Z, they start their roll when the opposite light is still on yellow. So at the next light (with the Z) I get into the right, and IT's ON!

At first I liked it, but as I learned how to drive it and respect it, it became more valuable to me as a machine than what its worth. With that being said, besides the mpg, I'm sick and tired of cruddy cars trying to race me everyday. At first I thought it was just california drivers, they just shitty drivers, however today was enough evidence of that by some weak fat piece of crud in a toyota corolla. Me being fed up, i sped up as he sped up, and obviously bogging down my car in second gear at 20mph full throttle, I was still able to speed up faster, get in his lane a car ahead and dust his azz, then go back in my lane at a stop light. I thought I proved a point, but no, he starts talking **** saying my car is slow.

I really love this car, I do. But I cannot drive this car, respect it like old man that fully restored an old muscle car, and just drive it with TLC. Just the fact I'm able to drive, and a awesome car.

But people, are ruining it so bad, I want to go back to my honda civic lx and just suck it up. Because I'm at the breaking point, of getting out of the car and wailing every person that harasses me on the street, as crazy as that may sound.

I'm not the copetitive type at all. Its a fist fight, or be on your way and take your little nose, and point it elsewhere in another persons business.

There, I bitched and complained like a puss. Sorry if this sounds stupid to you all, but just hoping theres others like me who dont want to waste their engines dusting shitty cars everyday. Because you dont see other sports cars acting like jack asses on the public roads

Be comfortable with who you are as a person and what you drive. Ignore everyone and everything else. It just becomes noise.
