Anyone else's Z do this?

So almost every time my Z gets hot if I'm driving hard or stuck in traffic and it starts getting hot I blip the throttle and the rpms will slowly float up by its self to about 2000 rpms and slowly come back down. Not like when I first take it out, ill blip the throttle and the rpms will go up and come right down quickly. The way any off my other cars do. So I'm wondering if anyone else has this happen to them or if this is a well known problem, or if it's common and is nothing to be worried about? Please help!

Does it happen every time you blip the throttle in the conditions you describe?

I have experienced a similar occurrence, but it's very rare and seems pretty random (definitely only when the car is very warm or hot, though). The start of the issue also seemed to coincide with my tune, so I wondered for a while whether that had anything to do with it. Over a year later, I've decided it's just something that happens occasionally. Sub'd for more info.

It's happened to me once or twice when I was stock. I wonder if it's something in the ecu to bump up the revs to spin the water pump a little faster to cool things down?

It doesn't sound like its going up by itself if you're blipping the throttle. That would make the RPMs rise. Sounds normal to me.

Its kind of sporadic but when it does happen the engine has been hot prior to or is already hot. I've either been driving hard or been driving in traffic.it also feels sluggish, and its happen a lot! its probably happened 20-25 times and I've only got 6300miles on it. I think I put my first mode on at 2k and i can't really remember if it did this in its stock form.

you sure you're not accidentally tapping the throttle with your right foot?

In my case, the scenario is as follows:

Idle around 600 RPM
Lightly blip throttle to what would normally be somewhere around 1500 RPM
The needle hits around 1500 RPMs
Instead of dropping immediately, the needle seems to pause very briefly before slowly increasing to around 2500 RPMs.
It will then drop to normal idle RPMs.

I don't think it's ever done it if I tried to get it to happen twice in a row. Another weird thing is that while the temps are always hot when it happens, it's not consistent. I've had plenty of spirited driving and highway driving in hot Texas sun that got oil temps up around 240F without any issues, though it has definitely happened a few times in those scenarios when I pull up to a stoplight during the drives. But the problem has reared its head when I was just driving around town normally in the summer with oil temps closer to 210F.

no you blip the throttle at about 1k to 1.5.k and the car will then take it after i take my foot off the gas pedal to about 2k 2.2k. it will slowly float its way up by itself after that and slowly back down.

Mine has probably done it about the same number of times since I started noticing it, but that was about 15-20K miles ago.

I don't do this on accident :p

But when I do, it usually revs closer to 5K than 2K :eekdance: :icon17:

ive had other cars get heat soaked but never had the rpms float like this before.

you have a '13 with factory oil cooler? wat does your oil temp read when your car does this?

Anywhere from 200* - 220*. I took it out last night and the night before and it did it both times. 2012 was the first year Nissan added the oil cooler stock.

I had this problem as well. I noticed that it was extremely sluggish. I seafoamed the Z and also installed new air filters on the gen3 cai. I no longer have this problem however if i have a little bit of heat soak it does start to happen. Most likely its your intake air temp being really hot and the car having to pull timing therefore you are losing performance. If your intake air temp is above 100* and your oil temp is above 220* your car will start to pull timing.
