Im so goddamn sad right now

I crashed my Nismo today and I want to die. I don't even know what to do right now but I need a new hood and bumper. I figure I can cut my losses and get a carbon fiber hood or something. I am looking to you guys for some recommendations on a hood swap, probably carbon fiber, for this repair. I'm going to probably go for an OEM Nismo bumper, but I'm open to some suggestions for that too. I've seen a few, but I figure somebody on here has some better experience to know what will have the best fits and whatnot.

Edit: Not so pissed off anymore, just focused on getting it fixed up. I've seen a few CF hoods, but I have no idea about fitments. Anyone with a hood swap have any input for me?

Get a hammer to the underside.

It is not the bad man, could have been worse.

Zerocool 04-26-2014 09:54 PM

Damn dude, that sucks. The hood looks like it can be banged right out and some filler and a respray should fix it(from the looks of the picture).

how bad is the bumper? it's hard to tell.

Zephon13 04-26-2014 09:55 PM

I can't even open the hood right now. I tried for like 20 minutes with no success.

The bumper isn't so bad, but it has a gouge in it. I figure I can use it as an excuse with insurance to get a new bumper. Maybe the Stillen bumper with the vents for rotor cooling, since that seems to be a known issue with the Nismo.

Wonka2581 04-26-2014 09:55 PM

Insurance??

H2O_Doc 04-26-2014 09:59 PM

You're quite lucky if this is the saddest day in your life.

Clearly, you've never met any of the women I've dated.

nogoodname 04-26-2014 10:00 PM

I wouldn't go through insurance. This is pretty minor and the bumper just needs minimal work and paint. The hood can be repaired.

Zerocool 04-26-2014 10:02 PM

Give the hood a good open palm hit near where the latch would be.

kensnismo 04-26-2014 10:21 PM

look up Z1 I believe they have a nismo front bumper in black for sale

Zbrah 04-26-2014 10:25 PM

Was this a hit n run? explain.

DjSquall 04-26-2014 10:27 PM

Who did you hit?

Find a paint less dent repair place, they'll heat up the hood & pop it back out

Not seeing anything on the search. It mainly comes up with results for hood struts.

For more explanation, I was getting on the highway and some jackass was trying to pinch me in when I was trying to merge. Long story short, I jumped into the lane, next thing I know there's a Honda CR-V at a dead stop in front of me. I couldn't stop in time. Report has been filed, but technically it was "my fault". The Honda had a tiny little scratch on it, which the girl driving it didn't even care about. She just wanted to go on her way.

I almost punched the dude in the car behind me but of course there were 2 cops that passed me right as it happened.

shadoquad 04-26-2014 10:32 PM

It could be worse, but I know that pain, man. Hope the repairs are quick n painless.

Zbrah 04-26-2014 10:42 PM

Ouch. That sucks man, I hope everything works out for you.

Z1 had a thread up selling misc nismo parts, including fronts and rear bumpers, I just saw that same thread getting bumped earlier today, maybe someone here can help you find it, or just send a pm to a rep at Z1 motorsport.

Fountainhead 04-26-2014 10:49 PM

Glad you're OK, and the other "guy" is OK too.

Thanks, it was like a 5mph collision. I'm just sad for the car more than anything.

axmea? 04-27-2014 01:06 AM

Silver lining is no one got hurt.....and you get the CF hood that you wanted.

karotZ 04-27-2014 01:11 AM

A few suggestions OP, and this is assuming you are at fault and going out of pocket and not through your insurance or whatever.

For the hood, go CF hood or occassionally an OEM hood is sold here for a magnetic black.

For the bumper, to do a budget squeeze, I'd do the Ings+1 Nismo style bumper for now until either someone sells their Nismo MB bumper or until you accumulate the proper budget to get brand new OEM one.

Or, find a really good shop that can fix and repaint both your bumper and hood without getting ripped off.

N1atmax 04-27-2014 02:39 AM

At least you have no suspension or frame damage. Wait till you total a car or end up in a hospital, that's a bad day.

synolimit 04-27-2014 02:48 AM

New hood, new bumper. Done.

Hmmm, having just gone through repairs to both front and rear bumpers on my '09 with less damage to them than the OP's I'd say that even though the damage isn't very bad, the repair cost isn't going to be cheap. There's probably $1,000 - $1,200 in repairs to the bumper and another $800 - $1,000 on the hood (assuming the hood just needs to be hammered out and repainted).

OP: You might as well use your insurance policy; they'll cover everything (minus your deductible, of course). Also check and see if you have rental car coverage while your car is in the shop.

:iagree: and [{Z-hugs}] to console you and your broken Z.

falconfixer 04-27-2014 06:18 AM

Don't go through your insurance. You rear ending someone will kill your rates.

Chuck33079 04-27-2014 10:42 AM

A fender bender is the worst day of your life and you want to die? Come on, man. It sucks but it's a car and it's repairable cosmetic damage. Have a drink and be thankful it wasn't worse.

I just had a somewhat similar wreck and my quoted price was over $3,000. Of course, I had to have a healight replaced which was a huge chunk of the cost.

Just as an FYI, not trying to start crap but you do know when you are getting on the freeway YOU have to yield to the traffic, I hate when people are getting on the freeway and think that I should yield to them. I do out of kindness but anyone that paid attention in Drivers Ed know these simple rules.

Riptide67 04-27-2014 11:17 AM

I have a magnetic black hood, should you decide to stay OEM.

But if police report is filed, the insurance company will know anyways. So might as well just get insurance involved.

As for OP, if you want to replace the bumper and hood, do with the OEM ones. Aftermarket ones will decrease your car value and potential buyers dramatically if you ever plan to sell your car. But the nismo front bumper plus hood replacement won't be cheap. So get your insurance involved.

Yes. Generally, if the police were called, the accident report becomes part of the OP's DMV record even if no citation was issued and the insurance company will discover it next time they do a DMV check...either at the 6 month or 1 year renewal depending on their protocol. The insurance company is going to list it as a chargeable accident no matter what. Might as well file the claim. The insurance rate damage is already done.

damn, looks like some dogdamn taffyapple sat on it. :eekdance:

sorry to see and hear. :(

Not taking it as a threadcrap, but this part of the highway has a split between 4 lanes, 2 and 2. Left side continues down the highway, right side goes to another one. It was obvious I was trying to get to the left and continue down, but in this case the guy was just being a douche. He could have easily let me slip by and been right where he left off. He was at a stop and when he saw me trying to merge, he started to pinch me in.

I know I ****** up though. I'm over that part already. I'm just looking to get it fixed up at this point.

Zephon13 04-27-2014 01:52 PM

Thanks for the input guys, I'm working with a buddy of mine to get it fixed up. I'm still deciding between OEM and aftermarket, mainly looking at Stillen, but I'll be going through my insurance with whatever I end up doing. It just sucks that my deductible is so high... lol

falconfixer 04-27-2014 01:55 PM

Learn sumthing new every day. Guess I'll wait around some more for the insurance company to catch up on my motorcycle accident from 2005.

Or maybe I wont use insurance... lol

RonRizz 04-27-2014 02:51 PM

Never heard that one before... So the days of paying out of pocket for minor fender benders to avoid rate increases is gone?????? Wonder if that's a state thing, or nationwide. I have paid oop for 2 in the last 3 years for my kids, and my insurance has never increased. (the same car, titled to me) Also, neither one of them reported a hike in insurance rates because of it....???? Also, an FYI, Rockauto.com has OEM bumpers ready to paint for some models of the Z at $180

forza370z 04-27-2014 04:48 PM

If a police report is filed and it's your fault cause the accident. It will be under your record and it's just matter of time for insurance company to find out. I ran stop sign and caught by the police last year. I didn't contact my insurance company but I am wondering why my insurance rate went up.:ugh2:

DOOMMONKEY777 04-27-2014 06:08 PM

Looks like u can just buff it off man, dont worry as long as ur alright its just a piece of metal, which can always be replaced by an even better piece of carbon. First time i crashed i was pissed like u, started swapping parts, now if i brake it, i cant wait to fix it.

10MPlayer 04-27-2014 06:17 PM

If this is as sad as your life's been you've had a good run. Count your blessings.

AFAIK, all states record accidents on your DMV if a police report was done by the cops, or if an accident report was filed by the involved drivers as required by most state laws (if damage exceeds a certain level, which thus one certainly does). How your insurance company interprets the DMV is the variable. Some might care about how much the accident cost them, some might care as whether it's a chargeable or non-chargeable accident, some may allow a certain number of chargeable accidents before raising rates. They view long-term customers differently as well as other risk factors including age, marital status, gender, length of time with company, and how much money you spend with them every year (ie, how many other vehicles you insure).
