anyone got trouble/ tickets with APR GT wings

UPDATE: No one yet tell me what police will do when they pass your car or go behind your car with the big GT on (ings+1 , voltex japan, APR gtc ......., NOT nismo wing cause they look too stock + original)
Here is how it look on my car , i really love the way it look.. So cool, beside that i dont care about performance. i did not race and never exceed 70 mhp on high way.
I do obey traffic law (next mod is HKS exhaust , state require maximum 95 db of noise, so let make it ~ 93, hope HKS will give me a certification for that)

The wing width span did not excess car width, sure it cause a lot of attention from people around.
RICER ? well it is not that expensive . 1k3 is what i paid for the wing. I have dream about this wing since tokyo drift movie came out so got it anyway.

Cheer Guys. I will let you guys know if something happen.

got my APR GTC-300 wing last week and cant imagine it was too big :happydance::happydance:

Have any members got trouble with police about big GT wing ? is it legal to put one on ? I read somewhere the law require a clear view on rear window (actually the wing dont do anything with the view) . The definition of "clear" is ...:gtfo2:
police can just simply give a ticket (or warn if he honest),you sign it and he just walk away ,

DEpointfive0 04-14-2014 06:57 PM

I doubt they can, or would.

Never heard of it either, but it will attract way more attention, so if anything else is less legal, expect to be pulled over

kenchan 04-14-2014 07:02 PM

7-10mm spacers on the rear and wider tires.

oh... in that case, the front looks like sedan bubble sidewall tires. lol

RonRizz 04-14-2014 07:22 PM

I'm guessing the cop may be laughing too hard to write a ticket. Just my opinion.

RonRizz 04-14-2014 07:24 PM

or you could pull back hard on the yoke and liftoff..... They'll never catch you.

Mike 04-14-2014 07:26 PM

I never did. Couldn't see it through the rear window. It won't stand up to more than 155 mph on a banked oval though. Mine cracked at both the upright mounting points.

Btw, from my knowledge, you only need 2 functioning mirrors. So as long as you don't hack the side mirrors off, you can legally block the entire rear window and you'd be legal

tow truck usually got the tow equip that nearly block the rear, and also a lot of minivan have no rear mirror at all (even if have i doubt about its use).

There is a differance between what is required from truck/van vs car in some states. I don't know what is required in Texas.

synolimit 04-15-2014 12:01 AM

Could you stand on this wing like a kognition?

That's a wimpy wing. Now this is a wing! You can even sit on it at a tail gate party!

Put a gun rack on any part of your vehicle in Texas and it will pass.

I was afraid you were going to say that, what wing are you running now? My GTC-300 arrives today but I guess I'm not running it at Daytona:shakes head:

Chuck33079 04-15-2014 07:28 AM

OP, I hope you're planning on a lot of track time to justify that kind of wing.

Zteve 04-15-2014 07:45 AM

only ticket to look out for is a ricer ticket for excessive wing

I don't know exactly, but in the early '60's when Japanese motorcycles like Honda and Yamaha were becoming big in the US, the riders of "other" motorcycles derisively referred to them as "rice burners." I'd guess something along similar lines.

Zteve 04-15-2014 10:52 AM

Urban Dictionary: ricer

:rofl2:

Is that an MGB?

synolimit 04-15-2014 04:32 PM

Anyone know the guy with the gtc 500? It has a higher speed rating but not made for a 370.

Wait- did you just say the only thing holding that wing to your car is tape? It's not a tiny little spoiler where you can do that. Install it right or take it off. If you taped it on it'll either end up stolen or through the windshield of the car behind you. Please tell me I read your post wrong.

Codename067 04-17-2014 03:40 AM

Bro, no joke, I have ALWAYS loved big a$$ wings on sports cars. Not sure why either.

With that said, I love your wing. Hopefully it doesn't get you too much heat from the 5-0!

It needs to be bolted to the hatch, and yes, I had a problem. In addition to the wing cracking, the skin of the hatch also cracked at the mounting bases. Can't really see it but its at the back end of the mounts, inboard. Both sides had 1" cracks in the aluminum hatch skin.

To fix it with the new wing, we bonded steel plates onto the hatch to spread the load of the downforce out a bit and prevent a repeat occurance.

thanks Mike. That is exactly what i can imagine.

But i dont track, i never exceed 70 on high way, so hope the wing wont create big downforce to destroy the hatch

I am fortifying the hatch, i mean i glue the base and Pedestals together , then mount it to hatch ( i would like to glue it too i addition to bolt) , then add 1 level big of aluminum/ steel plates underneath the hatch, then bolt it ?
Your steel plate is very good ideal, but the hatch is destroy because you track right ? does it cause by going through bump on street ?

i thought this was a troll post.......

JWillis72 04-18-2014 01:48 PM

Your not going to have a problem at 70mph on the street, his broke on the banks of Daytona at 155mph under high Gs and you wont get anywhere near that kind of force on it.

I sell very expensive windows designed to stand up to hurricanes and we use a glazing material to hold the glass it that is just amazingly strong. I'm filling in the areas behind the hoods skin and the brace with it to try to stiffen it up. This stuff is incredibly hard to cut or remove when dry but I don't know where you would get it outside of the business.

Mike 04-19-2014 06:53 PM

what he said! Also, I can't tell you about on the street, as my car is not a street car anymore.

Mike 04-19-2014 06:53 PM

On mine, to attach the steel plates, the body shop used panel bond in addition to the bolts. Its the same stuff they attach roofs to vehicles with.
