Because they attempted to "fix" every bleeding thing anyone complained about... half of which weren't issues to begin with. The wide loads complained about the seats not being comfortable. The car was designed largely for the american market. So they made the seats more comfortable for the fatasses without considering the people who weren't complaining and liked it the way it was. The not-so-average joe has to suffer because the fatasses need to exercise on a bike instead of driving a small sports car. Then again, your average idiot isn't going to notice the difference anyway, as this thread clearly demonstrates.

The USA is in the top 10 fattest countries in the world. I was born and raised in the good 'ol USA. My BMI is in the overweight category, even though I'm built. I have every right to comment, lol.
