Worse night of my life. I live in an area where our streets don't have streetlights. So Im cruising home about a 1/4 mile away and a dog crosses the street in pitch black conditions. By the time I saw him it was too late. I got out to see if the dog was ok and but he had gotten up and ran off with the other 2 dogs that were with him. I wasn't join more than 25 when it happened, and I really do hope he's ok. My question is what should I do, I have a close friend who will take care of installing a painting a bumper for me but I want to know if any after market front bumper will fit my car since its a 13' model? I know we have the drls and no other aftermarket bumpers I've seen have the slots in them for the lights. Any suggestions? What would you guys do?

Talk about selfish.

JeMo44 03-28-2014 12:26 AM

Of course, I got out to make sure he was ok but it took of running with the other 3 dogs that were with it. I did forget to mention that part. Im a dog lover myself, so I felt extremely terrible, there was just no way of seeing the dog coming

Sorry about your bumper. Any aftermarket bumper should be able to fit your z. If I was in your situation, I'd purchase a fujimura bumper and mod the drls.
Just like this.

How?

OP, that's crazy that at 25 that much damage occurred. I hit one at 80 on the freeway, but it just barely glanced the bodywork and hit the wheel & tire (the car in front of me destroyed the dog). No damage - I can't imagine what kind of damage would have been done had I hit square.

That really sucks dude. The owners should keep their dogs in the fence or on a leash. It sucks that the dog has to suffer for the owners negligence and you have to suffer because someone doesn't care enough for their pets.

Fountainhead 03-28-2014 08:46 AM

I hit a dog once, out in the sticks. Killed him dead. Park in the drive way, walk up to the house, "Im sorry I hit your dog, but I thought you'd like to know".
"Oh, that's OK I'm glad he's dead, thanks for getting rid of him....."
You just never know.....Of course this was 20 years ago when dogs were still dogs and not furry people....still I was shocked.

Glad you're OK.

I rather just pay out of pocket (if its not too much) and avoid my insurance going up. My friend has body shop where the work could be done.

Yea, when I first felt it and saw him running I didn't think that there would be much damage, if any. But as soon as I saw what had been done, instant headache

My first thought exactly, owners should be more responsible of their pets, they're supposed to be there loved ones. This type of accident could've been avoided.

Thanks man, I was filled with a feeling of guilt last night but as David said, owners should be more responsible.

sucks. i would just call up insurance and do a one vehicle collision claim... since the dog wasnt airborne i dont think it can be a comprehensive claim...? if that's going to hurt your premium ask up to how much your insurance will cut a check without affecting premium. they might be able to do this for you.

anyway, just get it fixed and get it over with. :D GL!

If I'd hit someone I'd say it was a dog too
My knowledge of $.02

Tazicon 03-28-2014 11:17 AM

How does anyone on this site know why that dog was out? I personally can't make a judgement about something I have no clue about.

The only fact I know is someone posted that he hit a dog and his only concern was his car. Now I see he does have remorse and thats a good thing as none of us know the circumstances revolving around the dog. Why anyone can say the owner is a bad dog owner when they don't have a clue is besides me.

ElVee 03-28-2014 12:06 PM

A pack of dogs out at night? Yeah, it might be a GOOD thing you hit one. Just sayin.'

What if he had hit a racoon/opossum/deer/squirrel in the exact same situation? What makes us never say anything about those animals, but a dog loose is another story? I'm all for flogging animal cruelists and I have just as much love for animals and our earth as the next guy, but he didn't hit a child or a human being. Likewise, OP probably couldn't have done anything differently.

I think it will be, because the dog was moving.

As long as it's not a stationary object it should be.

Apoc370z 03-28-2014 01:33 PM

hard to believe that a dog caused that much damage especially when you were only doing 25mph

If you're familiar with how flimsy the bumper is, I am from installing a cold air intake as well as multiple filter recharges, you wouldn't find it hard to believe.

kenchan 03-28-2014 01:46 PM

try riding into a wall at 25mph on a bicycle. it might hurt... :ugh:

Mt Tam I am 03-28-2014 01:48 PM

What did the driver do wrong? Driving at 25 MPH must be the limit or less. So unless he steered for the dog, it was an accident for him and a dog owner who does not care about bringing thier dog in after dark.

Sorry about your accident.

Thank you everyone. I looked around the neighborhoods nearby early this morning and found a dog that seemed to be the one I hit, I took him to a nearby animal center and he's gonna b fine. I had no intention of hitting this animal, like i said we have no street lights in this cities' neighborhoods and I didn't see him till it was too late, i reacted the best I could and that was y I only caught him with the side of the bumper and not dead on. This bumper is extremely flimsy and not very durable to any impact. Any ideas on what bumper I should go with, since I'm going to have to replace it anyways. Will there be any fitment issues since my car is a 13' model? All your responses are appreciated in advanced.

I was referring to the worst night of my life pertaining to my car and the fact the I injured an innocent animal. Owners should be more protective of their animals, it's in no way the dog's fault. But it was a bad night, don't think anyone on here would've liked this happening to their Z.

kenchan 03-28-2014 03:20 PM

factory bumper + matched paint = can't tell difference from new car.

I ewas thinking I might as well go with an aftermarket bumper since I'm already replacing it, but worse comes to worse, that's what I'll do

your insurance should be able to give you the amount up to wat it would cost to replace and paint your stock bumper. from there, you pay the difference out of pocket. yah, might be a good opportunity.

Like I said before, I was talking in respects to my car and the fact I injured an innocent dog. It wasn't literally the worst thing I've ever been thru.

Oh please. I'd feel bad if I hit a dog, but my biggest concern would be my safety and my car. Now if it was a person, different story. I wouldn't come on a car enthusiast forum crying about a dog I hit. I would do the same thing as OP did, ask about issues with my car.

I seriously can't believe the amount of people here that chastised OP for hitting a dog that ran out in front of him at night...Go over to the PETA forums instead. OP it's only a dog. I'm glad you're okay and I'm sorry about your car. You're a good guy for taking the dog to the hospital.
