Nissan steps up to the plate:

Nissan steps up to the plate:

10 Aug 2010. Nissan sold a 370Z “MY09” to its distributor “Garatge Sport” (sic)
18 Aug 2010 Garatge Sport sold and matriculated it as “manufactured in 2010”
….and rudely rejected two valid warranty claims (VVEL relay and steering lock)… a clue to bigger problems.

10 Jan 2014 Nissan took back the car at the price I paid.
Actually the car had been made in May 2009.

Financially I am satisfied. The years of digging for hidden documents, the disbelief, the lies and attempts to tarnish my name with dealership technobabble were never worth it.
Sample CEO lawyer ******** “The year of manufacture is date of import”.

The “MYxx” (model year 2009 here) code was motor industry usage for 10 years.
The distributor CEO “did not know the age” and “did not know” the engine number either.
The engine number is also on that 10 Aug 2010 invoice # ESPRO12697
The customs import document stated “Euro4”. “Euro4” ended end August 2009 on 370Z!

As a Motor Industry R&D veteran I can suss out potential fraud. Prove it? Legally? The average Joe has no hope.

Nissan has kindly written an apology. Its dealership CEO stonewalls. Apologise? No way.
(But the local trucks/commercial Nissan dealer is AOK!)

I'm guessing it means some shady company took delivery of an '09, dropped a '10 engine in it to fix some issue (who knows? collision, engine failure?), then sold the car as a 2010. Then they rejected warranty claims on VVEL relay and steering lock (somehow related to it being a supposedly-2010 but those parts came from a 2009 and/or the warranty/recall info was only for 2009? No idea.). Then the poster eventually figured out he actually has an '09 car.

what i got out of it was that dealership he bought it from fraudulently sold him a 2010 model year Z when in actuality it was an 09 and now nissan stepped up and bought the car back from him to correct the issue and the dealership where he bought it from are still being dicks and didnt even offer an apology.

to the OP, sorry about your troubles, but the dealership is not owned by nissan and is just another franchise owner. nissan can do very little to alter their business practices other than to downgrade them on their recommended dealers list...that or pull their franchise license now that i think about it lol

fritz- are you going to stick around?

you are the pioneer who found the first permanent solution to the steering lock problem (your brown wire cut approach). that was then later followed by the fuse pull by another member who was inspired by your finding.

if you are leaving, thanks again for all the help!! and good luck to you.

Well fritz, I'm glad everything worked out for you. Any plans on what you are picking up to replace the Z?

fritz 03-23-2014 10:16 AM

Many thanks, Kenchan & co!

I’ll “stick around”. 370Z preferred as I know it.
My ex-370Z is a good car for some-one (me!) but, once registered (plated) it seems impossible (even for the manufacturer/dealer!) to front up to bureaucracy and say “We got the year wrong”.

The dealer CEO is the President of the local Vehicle Importers Association, and “well known”. That's "Clout", neh?

Wstar, the Amateur Clown:
...makes hilarity out of extreme simplicity. Why not? Best read my post.

Z_ealot :
Nissan took up their responsibilities. They can even say “sorry” for overlooking the increasingly improbable.
“Blame the dealer” is big-biz propaganda propounded by huge legal “teams”. Don’t buy it.
….If you buy a lemon: under this propaganda interpretation the dealer’s to blame: not exactly what Magnusson/Moss had in mind! (Not that that law is relevant here).
