Dealership oil change

Holy crap!! 124.00 for an oil change at the dealer. That's after knocking off 40.00 for a coupon that I had. 75.00 labor? come on... only have 4000 miles on it so I figured I`d let them do it. Not again :icon23:

I do it at the local Chevy dealership Quick Lane. They have Mobil 1 and I bring my own oil filter in case they don't have an AC Delco PF1237 on hand. I also keep a little envelope of crush washers in my glove compartment.

JARblue 03-14-2014 09:41 AM

If you've got a place to work on the car, get yourself a floor jack and some jack stands (or ramps). Mobil 1 runs me $25 for 5 qts at Walmart, so my oil changes typically run me 30-45 minutes (depending on how long I let the oil drain) and about $35.

So without the coupon it would have been $164? For an oil change? Never go to that dealer again.

cooltoy 03-14-2014 11:08 AM

It must have included things like tire rotation and fluid checks and other stuff for that money. If it did not - you are getting ripped off.

Chuck33079 03-14-2014 11:09 AM

Tire rotation? On a Z?

karotZ 03-14-2014 11:12 AM

OP, that's close to what I paid for an oil change, transmission oil change, diff oil change including redline oil to all of it. Don't go back to that dealership. When I used to go to my dealer, they charged $75. Now I pay $35 when I dont feel like doing it. :happydance:

I guess I had my wife's Edge Sport in my head, since she asked me to make an oil change appointment.

mine came with 2 or 3 freebies. I forget, but I've never used them.

kenchan 03-14-2014 11:35 AM

yah, my dealer also said the first oil change was on the house... but ive not gone back to the dealer since i bought my Z 5yrs ago.

the last time dealers did freebie oil changes on my G, they lost a few of those screws for the bottom shroud. :shakes head:

Luciano13 03-14-2014 11:39 AM

I got 5 free. The last one i paid was only $75 for Mobil 1 F/S(@dealership)

1st 03-14-2014 11:42 AM

Does it come with KY Jelly?

kenchan 03-14-2014 11:51 AM

i bet they dont even go down there to check the MT oil... or do they?

i dont open the plug unless i see leaks or something or shifter feels wrong.

This is what an oil change should cost.

for dino oil at dealers, yes.

kenchan 03-14-2014 11:54 AM

wat i truely hate about dealers is how they raise the base price when you bring in coupons. :shakes head:

Don't bring out the coupon until after the quote.

Malm 03-14-2014 01:13 PM

they will always find ways to raise price so your savings isnt that big...

like 'oh, that's the promo price, so with coupon we need to take off from the regular price which is $xxx.xx'

i work at a ford dealership, usually when people use coupons my boss tells us to make things up, like tell the customer that the air filter needs to be replaced as well as the battery. i hate that he wants us to be shady but i never do that crap unless they actually need it. but they do jack prices up depending on the customer, if the customer argues that it shouldnt cost so much they will lower the price. or if an expensive car rolls in they charge extra just because the owner probably has money

That's regular oil. Synthetic cost 25-30 more

cooltoy 03-14-2014 08:48 PM

OK. $55 I am good with. $124 is a ripoff.

RonRizz 03-14-2014 08:58 PM

What dealer do you frequent?? My dealer is doing them for $18.99. Plus, I frequently mystery shop my dealership, and they pay me $40. I'm getting most done for -$21.01. That pays for my gas to and fro, and a snack and drink in the waiting room !!!

zaimer 03-14-2014 11:09 PM

^^ I bet that's not synthetic though. The oil alone would cost more than that. For a synthetic oil change at a dealer I would say it should be around $70-$80. I get mine done for like $45 or $50 because I bring my own oil and pay labor.

James10694 03-15-2014 04:07 AM

$12.99 today at my dealer, planet Nissan in las vegas... I supplied the oil and filter

mag_black 03-15-2014 07:26 AM

$80 for Nissan synthetic oil change here.

Exactly, it depends what kind oil they use. $125 most likely is for synthetic oil. My oil change at Nissan dealership is $39 and $29 with coupon sometimes.

Awwthentic 03-15-2014 07:25 PM

I usually pay 24.95, but sometimes I get hooked up with $9.99 oil changes with coupon. Part synthetic yes, but no need for full.

2xtreme1 03-15-2014 07:49 PM

shop around.
Some dealerships vary in prices, even within a 15 mile radius.

For example, this one placed charged me roughly 95$ for an oil change. They were also trying to bitch that my tires needed to be looked at. "thread was low" on 4k miles? they are tripping.

Next dealership was about 60$ and no ******** about my tires having low thread. In fact, my tires had more thread than the previous dealership claimed.

Tadpole 03-16-2014 04:41 PM

Im paying $50 for synthetic at my dealership with a coupon. As long as I keep getting coupons I will bring it to them.
They have popcorn, sodas, coffee, freshly baked cookies, and pigs in a blanket for breakfast and all free.
You get a free loaner car, or picked up and dropped off to any local store.
Last but not least, you get a free car wash too.

I like my dealership!
