The conditions you're describing are the worst possible combination for getting good gas mileage. Your commute isn't even long enough to get the car warmed up.

part of that post was a joke.

but the other part is that the corolla's first gear is geared pretty low for quick take offs.

and i know cause i made the mistake of owning one long time ago...well, i bought it for the wife to use, but anyway, i paid for it cash even.

It does make me feel better, lol. but, yea, I just want to make sure if there is anything wrong with my new car, so it sounds like it is normal, I will live with that I know a 370z is not for MPG. so at what RPM u guys usually shift while normal driving? below 3k?

If you're trying to get good gas mileage, keep the revs down. Under 3k.

I average about 14 mpg. 100% city driving in NYC so it's as crappy as it gets with the traffic, potholes, etc. I don't care about MPG.

my car is MT and usually shift 1st around 4K, 2nd maybe 3500, then around 3k after that. it really depends on traffic and the kind of mood i am in. crusing rpm is 1500-2500 depending on if im going up a grade or not.

and yah, i too prefer to enjoy my drive than worry about mpg on my cars.
