Outstanding! Let's take the Way Back Machine to 1975 - After my super-cool, Plum Crazy 1970 Super Bee with 75k miles detonated the motor two months after I bought it, I was condemned to a 1973 Civic. As uncool as that car was, it was an absolute blast to drive. Interestingly enough, I had a couple of very cute girl friends that year who loved that little car. |
mr. gurney- those tiny civic hatchback's were cool.

If I had a 370z under 21
I would be dead. I could not handle that kind of power when I was younger.

This is a suburban/country what if/issue thread. I have no comment.

You didn't get laid in high school either, eh?

I bet I'll get asked "is this a porsche?" at least 50 times a day including people from grade 10 to the school principal. |

I would be dead. I wrecked my Midget so many times my Dad had his friend total it so I could get rid of it. I loved that car but I loved living at home more so I did it! I'd had so many people pull out in front of me it was like rolling Bondo.

Yha I would of been dead too. I crashed my first car, 91 gsx eclipse into a wall at 70 mph and almost died. With this z I would of been dead or in Jain for street racing.
|
not sure probably the same position I am in now :icon17:
I had a supercharged thunderbird before I even had my license, I F'ed it up and couldn't afford to fix it up so I scrapped it :ugh2: |
a. More confident? Not really, but I would have a huge smile on my face or scare the crap outta myself most days.
b. Others treat you differently? Definitely. c. Would it win you a date with the prom queen? I doubt it, but I got her at the afterparty without the date, lol. |
I had a 6MT G37S in high school.. No crazy tickets and no accidents. So if my Z was not TTd I would of been just fine. I went to a private school and there were plenty of other nice cars in the parking lot so no one would of treated me any differently.
The Z would of definitely got me laid just as much as the G ;) |
Different times now, then back in the day. But if every one got it in high school, I'd never been able to marry a virgin.
|
probably not because everyone at school was into older muscle cars (back when they were affordable) i drove a 1969 road runner with a 383 my parents bought me for $700, had it rattle can primer gray and interior was not the best but that car was a beast, still wish i had it now.
|
I drove a 1965 Chevy Corvair and a 1953 Chevy Bel Air. Who needed more. :rofl2:
I worked weekends during school, and all summer long. The September after graduation I bought my 1978 280Z. I don't think the car helped too much, ever. |

I can see this thread is turning into an old days story thread....
"back then in 1967 when I still need gel for my hair......." |
I had my 370z in high school.

A. I don't think I would have thought different of myself, but I may have had more fun getting to and from school.
B. I don't think it would have changed much. Looking back, I don't know how I had the kind of luck I had with girls. My best guess is that nature did most of the heavy lifting, and I just avoided screwing it up most of the time. While a fancy car might have expanded my options to include more stuck up, status-symbol girls, I don't feel that I missed out on anything, since there were plenty of girls that didn't require me to have such a vehicle. I'm also happy with the male friends I had in HS. They would have loved the car, but I don't think it would have changed the way they thought of me. |

I find it very hard to think of myself driving a Z back in high school. I was a dork and kept my head down for the most part; did my school thing and the typical introvert with only my inner circle of few friends. And still that sort of thing kept me a very happy person.
And it's not because of whatever car I drove. Driving a sweet car would not have bought me cool. It likely would have bought me hazing, dings, scratches, worry, etc. Even having gone to a school on the nicer side of the tracks (for Iowa), really no one drove nice cars or even all that much for fast ones. And no one that would have reacted positively to my driving a Z likely wouldn't have been someone I'd want to hang around with or have hang around with me. High school is pretty cliquish. There is nothing about my personality or habits or circles back in high school that would have supported a sporty car. Just wouldn't have fit me at all, nor could I have afforded it nor even wanted to afford it. It probably still doesn't fit me, but I'm old enough that it doesn't matter. I had an '86 Oldsmobile Calais for about 1-2 years and an '85 Chevy S10 Blazer for the rest of high school and through college. Pretty much anonymous in a school parking lot. There were not really many imports in my parking lot; pretty much all used cars and hand-me-downs; as it should be in high school. (And having the Z in a college freshman parking lot? hah) Update: Being in Iowa with our winters, there's no way it would survive the hills in town where I lived. I drive careful, and still the winter would have done something disastrous. I couldn't call out of school like I could for work. |
on a serious note, I didn't have a car when I was in high school. :(
|
Neither did I. Got my first one on my first day of University. A 1975 maroon Chevy Caprice Classic. What a boat. Did not help with the ladies any.
But getting one of these later sure did. My first manual. http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_..._large.jpg?v=1 |

I did not have too many issues and sold it probably just before things were starting to go.

A. You be different (more confident, "stuck-up," happy go lucky, etc.)?
I got my Z when I was 19. Umm if I had it a year or two earlier during high school I don't think my attitude would have changed much. B. Or how might others treat you differently? Probably. People would have thought I was more cool. Haha As far as dates go ..Umm maybe. Having a nice car is not everything |

This was a couple months after getting it, before the BBC went in and it got lowered. |
No, it wouldn't have changed me or anything like that. I owned a stroked 347 69 Mustang(still own it but in storage), a 97 F150, and a 95GT during HS. I played sports, people knew me and I would say was liked but I kept to myself. Never dated the prom queen (although she is a good friend now) or any girl from my HS. I spent the weekends under the hood, studying, or hanging out with older people. I would get the you have to take me for a ride but I never associated with many kids at my school not that I was stuck up but just didn't care to do what they were doing like having a couple Smirnoff ice's and act a fool. LOL. When I run into people from HS though now most of them say they thought I was a *** but that was because I kept to myself, or maybe I was. LOL
