z wont start

so I go out to my car and get in and the car doesnt read that the key is with me I think. Even though the door handle button works to unlock the car. I just now replaced the battery and nothing changed. The fobgina doesnt do anything. The car just acts like the key isnt there meaning it does nothing. Im trapped at work, any ideas?

Steering lock probably. There is a recall on it since earlier last year so shouldn't be any charge to get replaced by Nissan.

Did you put the key fob in the slot and try starting it?

snowhite370 02-05-2014 09:14 PM

Steering lock. Recalled by nissan. Had mine towed to the dealer cuz i didnt heed the warning and replace it before it happened :shakes head:

maizenblue 02-05-2014 09:15 PM

Sorry dude :/ that sucks. Shouldnt cost anything to replace it though!

So frustrating though. I saw on the sticky that the accessory power still turns on when you push the button though but mine doesnt. just stays on lock

thats exactly what mine did. Hit the button and nothing at all happened

maizenblue 02-05-2014 09:32 PM

Wow this sucks. Of course it leaves me stranded 40 miles from home

So im having it towed to the dealership, the guy here is already saying not all Zs are included under the recall. I have a 2010, so are they already trying to weasel themselves out of covering me. I guess something else could be wrong since it hasnt been checked yet but it definately seems like the steering lock. But is there any reason my Z shouldnt be covered by the recall

maizenblue 02-06-2014 02:15 PM

Ok they are saying my vin number doesnt fall into the recall and it wont be covered. What the hell

kenchan 02-06-2014 02:20 PM

bang on the steering lock with a small hammer or mallet and push the start button to see if you can free it. then cut the brown wire or pull the fuse while the car is in the ON position.

check my diy to see wat the thing looks like.
