which is why he didn't write the ticket, however it was enough probable cause to pull you over to see if he might be able to bust you for something else.

:iagree: beat me to it. You'd be surprised how many wanted criminals get caught on stupid routine traffic stops. Cops know this, so they'll use any excuse to check you out on a whim. As someone else said, it's their job. Yes, I agree it can be annoying as hell

And yes, while they can run plates as they follow you that's not the same as running your license, since they can't assume the owner of the car is the person actually driving it.

Holy god you have NO idea how many felony stops turn out to be a simple pull over from the start.

There must be more to this story?

I live in Palm Beach County (south end) and am curious what agency pulled you over. PBSO or a city??

I for one can assure you, if that happened to either my hubby or I, I'd drop $5k to our attorney and make that officer answer for harrassment in ways he never experienced. When you are wrong, you're wrong. But 51 in a 50? My ***! Sounds like abuse of authority. How did he know you were going 51 in a 50? There are other ways to deal with a corrupt cop, but I won't go into that here.

Come to think of it, 50mph speed limit in Palm Beach is rare. Out west on 441, certain parts of Palmetto Pk Rd are the only two that I know.

Are you kidding me? Harassment? Sorry like it or not 51 in a 50 is STILL speeding like it or not. If you dont like it, go 1mph under. Yeah it might be kinda dumb to pull someone over but its still over the limit. I would never do that unless somethin was absolutely looking wrong. Good luck on your harassment case there because 1mph or not he is still breakin the law.. The cop could have seen something he didnt like and used it as a reason to pull him over to check it out. As you may not know, most felony stops DO occur as simple traffic stops.

For many of you who dont know. Tickets are written in lieu of bail. Meaning you really could be arrested but a ticket is issued instead for a later court date. Consider yourselves lucky.

smurfblu13 08-28-2009 02:34 AM

Well OP I'm going to have to say this Pic of ticket or it didn't happen lol. Now of course I mean this in a joking manner because that is as rough as they come. If it were me I would frame that ticket.

Depending on how the course of events transpired with the officer would have me consult my attorney or not. Granted, I'm a bit older than most on here and view being pulled over a bit differently, having never been pulled over, I take it seriously. Particularly if he told me that I was doing 51 in a 50 zone. I wouldn't loose sleep or get my nails dirty, that is what my attorney is for. 51 in a 50, he must of had suspecion of something else, thus more to the story. BTW... I/we are connected here locally and 51 in a 50 doesn't happen unless the officer is a complete ******* or he had other reason, likely the later.

You just said 51 in a 50 there must be more to it....but then you call the officer and ******* .......you dont know the story. Dont attack the officer. OP has to be leaving something out. Many people have much to learn. Like I said, if police didnt stop people for "minor" things most people whine about there would be tons of felons out there. Be happy they do what they do to keep you safe out there. Deal with getting pulled over for 1mph over even if its BS or not because whethere you like it or not it keeps you safe out there and I guarantee when it happens ytou are in NO rush to be somewhere, you just feel bothered. I got pulled over because my college sticker the cop said looks like a fake inspection. Did I call my lawyer? NO I sucked it up and got over it.

(ps I have a place in WPB so I know how things go down there too.)

*Disclaimer. I dont wnat to sound like a **** to you. But it gets old when people attack police all the time when they do their jobs to protect everyone and ask for nothing in return*

But hey I grew up in a military and police family so I guess I just might be more disciplined and respectful than others.

smurfblu13 08-28-2009 02:43 AM

I can see your reasoning behind this, but not sure an attorney could really help you out. 51 in a 50 is still speeding so they have every right to pull you over. It's a rough ticket to get, everyone will agree.

SB350z 08-28-2009 02:45 AM

THERE must be more to this story. I have NEVER EVER seen a cop pull someone over for 1 MPH over the limit. It's a waste of their time.

OP, you made THIS thread http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...rt-button.html this week.

this one last week (which was locked), http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...llowed-me.html and

the week before which was locked as well http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...mo-vs-evo.html

I am going to go ahead and raise the :bs: flag on this one.... :ugh:

smurfblu13 08-28-2009 02:47 AM

Well not to stir the pot, but in Mischief 3000 an Audi Avant wagon gets a ticket for 1 over. Now this is during the gumball so CLEARLY different circumstances, but thought I'd contribute that useless fact lol.

For the record, I'm not exactly attacking police and actually have more than respect, but personal interest vested in police. Point I was making, simply being pulled over for 51 in 50, the OP should tell more. How was it determined 51 (radar, laser, clocked by driving?). What else transpired during the traffic stop? Thus, more to the story?

Now, if was ONLY a stop for 51 in a 50, sorry bud, that is when there is a problem. We must question the officer's motive and I can assure you that it was not public safety. If that was the case, they would be leading my example and drive no faster than the speed limits and not run lights while not responding to calls (very common down here).

Officers are people and people are prone to fault for one reason or another. Just because they wear a badge, have the ID, and drive the car does NOT give them the right to claim 51 in a 50 and pull someone over. There sure better be proof (radar, laser clocked and speed locked). Of course, with such a small margin of 1mph over, almost any method of determining the vehicle speed would be faulted by the 3 to 5mph margin of error built into the device (radar, laser...).

Sorry, but I am at the point in my life that I simply would not take it just because an officer said so, particularly if I was in the right. Hence, attorney (and a darn good one at that) if the situation called for it.

Again, I'm police friendly and hold their position with respect in my eye. Not to mention the family connection.

Perhaps as you continue to mature in years and experience, you too will realize that just because an "officer" (or any official for that matter) says so, doesn't make it the way it is.

Just read back into other posts of the thread while tying this. Ahhh...see, the OP is a kid who is likely driving, well not good and dangerous, and the officer intervened to thwart his driving behavior.

Hang on a minute....what is the speed limit? Oh yes thats right 50mph. 51 is STILL over like it or not giving them EVERY right to check that vehicle out. You arent a governor, head of police so you have no right to say what an officer can and cannot do. Did you even think that this could be a late night stop looking for a DUI? Oh yeah thats right tables turned now.
